I'm planning a trip to Acadia National Park in July 4 weekend. We're checking the hotels in Bar Harbor but found them really expensive. A friend of mine suggested us living in Ellsworth because the hotels there are much cheaper. But I'm not sure how convenient that would be to drive to the park everyday. Anybody had similar experience before? Thanks!

I need some info on what other alternatives for hiking/biking other than Acadia? I plan on being in the Bar Harbor area at end of July, early August. Is Acadia really crowded that time of summer?

Sorry for the second posting, but I've been doing some research and we've decided to fly into Portland and drive up to Bar Harbor. Considering that we'll arrive on the Saturday of July 4th weekend, I'm expecting pretty bad traffic. But I was hoping to get some input on what time of day will be the *worst*.

Also, any recommendations on cheaper B&Bs? I know it's peak time and nearly everything I've found is $100+. We don't mind staying outside of downtown Bar Harbor. I would appreciate any info!

Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I are thinking of taking a four day trip up to Bar Harbor/ Acadia for the 4th of July.

We're looking for a nice B&B with outdoor activies easily accessible. Specifically, we'd like to rent bikes to bike some trails and do some kayaking/canoing. Basically we want a relaxing trip, with some beautiful nature and outdoorsy things to do. Could you recommend anything specific?

Also, what is the most accessible airport? I've looked and found Portland much cheaper than Bangor. Are there any other options? We'll rent a car if there are no better options.

In addition to my other current forum... I need to know if anyone knows anything about the ferry's.
We live in Ontario and plan to drive down through the states and to Maine where we want to take the ferry from either Bar harbour or Portland. Does anybody know anything about these Ferries?? like cost and departures? Or maybe they even have a website that someone knows about?? Thanks for any help!

I know there's someone here who can help me with this...
I'm looking at accommodations in Bar Harbor from October 23 to 26 and I can see that most places are fully booked around this time because of busloads of leaf peepers. I don't want to take the chance like we did the last time and go without a booking because that means driving back two hours looking for the first decent hotel at 2am.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a B & B or an inn in Bar Harbor that's close to Acadia and all the good stuff?
Would the accommodation situation be the same for Nova Scotia if we intend to get on the ferry and take our chance without a prior booking?
Looking for rooms from the hundreds of hotel choices has always been the most difficult part of planning a trip.
