Hi folks,
Greetings from Scotland! Does anyone know if there are couchettes available on the night train from Wroclaw to Gdansk and if so how they can be booked in advance (ideally online). I'm hoping to take the train that leaves late on Saturday 9th August.
Grateful for any help,
AuldHarry.

Gdansk or Sopot in late August? Posted: Thu July 17, 2008 09:24 AM UTC
Hi,
planning a trip to Gdansk for the last weekend in August. Since I want to experience the nightlife, would it be better to stay the nights in Sopot and do day trips to Gdansk or vice versa?
I suppose Sopot is the place to be during summer, but would the season be over by end of August?

Polish Archives Posted: Mon July 14, 2008 02:36 AM UTC
This is our second trip to Poland to do family research but we're also working on it from home thru LDS records to be sure we know what villages we want to visit. Our biggest hurdle now is getting permission to visit State Archives to look at some records while we're there....has anyone been able to do this successfully? We've contacted the Torun archives and also Koszlin archives by e-mail but have not received a response. Is permission necessary at these archives?

Bus from Gdansk airport Posted: Sun January 20, 2008 10:52 AM UTC
I will be flying from BMX arriving at the airport GDN at about 2100 on a Saturday night in August. I have read that there are buses into town, Bus B to Gdansk Glowny and Bus 110 to Gdansk Wrzeszcz; two questions
How often does the bus run during the evening and overnight?
Is it possible to buy tickets at the airport and if so where can I buy some?
Thanks

Going from Nynesham Sweden to Gdansk by Ship, Info please Posted: Mon December 3, 2007 05:36 PM UTC
Hi we are going on the Scandinavia ferry to Gdansk. When we arrive is it far to go for shopping...we are not so young. Also is there something VERY special that we must not miss, and if possible can you give me the tram numbers. Are Taxis to be trusted? Maybe the most favourite place you like would be nice.
Thanks all

Mid November for 4 days Posted: Tue October 30, 2007 06:42 PM UTC
I am visiting Gdansk - Sopot for 4 days from 15th November as a solo traveller.
I expect it to be quiet, but how quiet quiet. Is it a ghost town.
Is there any life at the weekends in pubs and clubs.
Are there tourists this time of year?
What are the best bars - nightclubs for a late 30's traveller?
Is there a football match that weekend, or one I can go and watch. I try and go to a game wherever I am in Europe.
Any ideas for day trips, esp on train and a little further afield thn the tricity.
Finally is there a place that runners go, as I am training for a marathon, so wont be up all night drinking. Too old for that.
thanks

Traveling from Gdansk to Ostroda Posted: Mon October 29, 2007 04:36 PM UTC
Next year I hope to traveling to North East Poland. I will be with my mother who was born in Ostroda (Osteroda, Ostpreußen) but has not been back there since the end of WW2. I expect to flying to Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport then somehow making my way to Ostroda. So far, car hire seems most likely but I would prefer to avoid that if possible, not being the most confident of drivers when in continental Europe. Does anyone know of a suitable alternative? Rail or Bus perhaps. Must be with the minimum of waiting or changing. I have trawled the web for info but, naturally, most of it is in Polish.

Advice wanted. Posted: Tue October 23, 2007 06:00 PM UTC
My partner and I are going to Gdansk for a weekend in November. We have been to Poland before. I was just wondering. Is it cheaper or more expensive than Crackow. What are the main things to see and do in the City, is the coast near enough to go for an afternoon. If yes, how is the best way to get there.
Thank you.

Buying tobacco in Poland? Posted: Tue October 2, 2007 12:07 PM UTC
Understanding that tobacco prices in Poland are amongst some of the cheapest in Europe, it make perfect sense for a weekend city break - the cost of which offset against cheap tobacco saves a small fortune.
I understand that prices for 50g of Golden Virginia would be around 2 euros and that returning home (within the EU) the recommended maximum is 3Kg (60 x 50g @ 2E = 120E).
Could someone confirm the following for me, please:
-- Is it really 2 Euros for 50g hand rolling tobacco?
-- The recommended maximum is correct, right?
-- When buying tobacco in Poland, has the tax/duty been paid?
-- Where's the best place to buy (tobacco shop, supermarket, etc.,)?
-- Are there plenty of these places to buy?
-- Can it be bought in the airport on the return trip?
-- Does anyone know what Polish customs officials are like? In particular, with 3Kg of tobacco are they likely to give me a hard time?
Many thanks for this and I look forward to the trip.

re train travel to Gdansk Posted: Fri September 7, 2007 04:45 PM UTC
We are going from Warsaw to Gdansk on Sept 21. We are looking at the 10.50
departure from Warsaw and the train only stops in Gdansk for 3 min. Is this
long enough to get off the train with luggage, especially if there are people
in front of us? Also this train has a coach that doesn't show what class
it is or the seat arrangements on any except one. There is only 1 min
stop in Malbork.
Is any food available on these trains that doesn't show the knife/fork sign?
Can anyone give me info on this.
Thanks

Fellow travelers,
I'm going to Gdansk in early September with 2 friends. That's the last stop of our long trip through northern/central europe. I've been looking around for hostels but didn't find much. What are the best/cheapest places to stay?Is it secure to go there without previous booking? How easy it is to find a place to crash? Many Thanks.

International church in Gdansk/Sopot/Gdynia Posted: Wed July 4, 2007 12:37 PM UTC
Hi,
we will go to Gdansk 16th of July. Is there an international protestant church somewhere in Gdansk (or in Sopot/Gdynia), where they have the meeting/sermon in English? Do you know which address and which times?
In Warsaw we found one near the Old Town, an Anglican church on Krakowskie Prziedmiechcie.
