Aachen Getting to Aachen
Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 07:06 AM UTC
Hi!

I wanted to know how can one get to Aachen from Bonn. while taking the train, one has to apparently, change the train twice. in this case, would it be better to take a bus?

Also, the tourism section there has a "casual programme" to cycle from Aachen to Maashtricht. Has anyone taken that? If so, what is the cycling like? is it difficult? I dont cycle regularly... so would that be a problem?

Apart from this what else should one do in Aachen for say a day?

Looking forward to your inputs!!

Thank you

Aachen Bus Aachen - Maastricht: Price?
Posted: Fri March 7, 2008 11:57 PM UTC
Hello,

I found the timetable of the Veolia-operated Bus No.50 from Aachen to Maastricht in the Netherlands. Does anybody know the price for the travel? I tried looking it in the AVV website, but they do not show the international prices.

Thank you very much for your help.

Best,
Venelin

I was wondering if there is a place on route that anyone knows about that I could contact to set this up? We are going to visit next week in order to recce the locations and are trying to organise things this end!

Will you be open on Dec. 23rd, a Saturday. If so, what are the hours? Also, is there a tour or just an outlet to shop for chocolate?

Aachen Chocolatiers in Aachen other than Leonidas?
Posted: Fri October 6, 2006 10:51 AM UTC
I want to bring home chocolate to many people for gifts, and I'm wondering if there's a different chocolste shop than Leonidas to choose from. I think I'm going to give some people chocolate from Hema, because I think it's actually quite good, but nice boxed chocolates would be nice as well.

TIA

Aachen Silly Printen Question
Posted: Sun September 24, 2006 10:05 PM UTC
I'm the Queen of Stupid Questions......... self crowned of course!

Does printen keep for a long while, or does it go bad in a week or even a couple of days? It sounds like it might be a harder cookie type thing, but the pics don't look all that hard. I was wondering if it would be suitable for gifts that wouldn't be given until a couple weeks after purchase.

Aachen Aquis Grana Hotel or Brulls am Dom
Posted: Thu September 21, 2006 08:22 PM UTC
I'm considering these two hotels for my one night stay in Aachen next Thurs. night. Both seem to have a good location, but I'm wondering if anyone here is familiar with them? I'll be arriving in town by train and leaving the next day by car. I'll do some exploring and want to be near the city center so I can walk where I want to go.

Any input would be appreciated.

Aachen Getting to Aachen from Brussels
Posted: Tue September 19, 2006 03:14 PM UTC
What's the easiest way to get to Aachen from Brussels? I'm flying in on the morning of Sept. 28 and plan to take the train into town and explore until maybe late afternoon and then go to Aachen to spend the night. What station do I need to get to in order to catch a train to Aachen? I'd prefer it if I didn't have to switch trains between the two cities. Do trains run at all hours, or will I have a problem if I don't leave Brussels until later? About how much does it cost in €'s?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Aachen Toy store in the Center of Aachen
Posted: Tue September 19, 2006 03:02 PM UTC
I'm going to be spending the night in Aachen the evening of Sept. 28. I'm surprising my daughter who lives in the Netherlands, and her husband will bring her to Aachen along with my new grandson. I want to have him go to a really great toy store that my daughter and I had gone to last year in the center of Aachen. It was three stories total if I remember right and it was fabulous. My daughter loves toy stores and it shouldn't be too hard for my sil to talk her into going there.

What I want to know is what's the name and address of the store. I want to make sure my sil goes to the right place and I also want to try to find a reasonably priced hotel within easy walking distance of the store and the centrum.

Aachen lockers for bags at station
Posted: Sat August 19, 2006 09:33 PM UTC
Does Aachen train station have lockers available for temporary storage of luggage (just a few hours)? Not small items, but suitcases. Is this something that is available in most German stations, at least the larger ones?

Aachen Moving to Aachen in 2 Weeks - HELP!!!!! :)
Posted: Wed October 5, 2005 07:28 AM UTC
Hello Everyone,

My family and I (myself, my wife, and 3-year old son) will be relocating to Aachen in mid-October (i.e. in the next two weeks!) for a six-month contract with my employer. I will be arriving first in mid-October in order to get everthing set up and my wife and son will follow at the end of November. I would appreciate any assistance and/or information you would be able to provide me with related to the following:

1. I will be looking to rent a flat for the six-month period. Where do I start in finding a flat? How much should I be budgeting based on the criteria below:

- Public transportation within walking distance to take me to Charlottenburger Allee 61 (my employer's office site).
- Close to pre-school for my son.
- Close to shopping and food markets for my wife.
- 2-bedrooms
- furnished/service including all utilities, kitchen utensils, bed linens/towels, tv/dvd, stereo, etc.
- extendable should my stay be extended
- nice area
- approximately 80+ square metres
- fitness facility within walking distance (preference - not required)

2. Bank account - I need to open up a bank account there. Any suggestions? What is the process and what information will I be required to provide?

3. Address for local "foreigners" or "alien" immigration office for me to obtain my work permit/visa.

4. Is there a website that I can view/download a public transportation route map? What is the cost for a monthly bus pass?

5. Any suggestions for pre-school for my 3-year old son?

6. How do I obtain a phone line? Internet access? Suggestions on provider companies?

7. Mobile phone - how do I obtain a local SIM card for my phone? Suggestions on provider companies?

8. Nice (but also reasonably priced) hotel to stay at for the first week while I locate a flat.

9. Any other pertinent information you feel I may require in order to make my relocation more comfortable.

Thank you so much for your assistance and I look forward to hearing from you and potentially meeting some of you during my stay :)

Aachen Mummy at Burg Frankenberg
Posted: Wed October 27, 2004 08:51 AM UTC
Is the Egyptian mummy at Burg Frankenberg (http://www.burgfrankenberg.de/) worth a visit for someone interested in Egyptian history? Apparently, it dates back to the Old Kingdom, about 2500 BC, but whose is it? Not a pharaoh, I suppose ...

Posted: Sun August 1, 2004 02:21 PM UTC
Hi there!
Finally I am going to organize the promised VT-meeting in Aachen. I suggest a Saturday (and possibly the following Sunday we as well for those who'd like to stay) in September.
So please, those who are interested, would you tell me your availability on the 4th, 11th, 18th or 25th of September?
Once we have a set a date we can decide what exactly we can do, I have quite a few ideas already.
Hope to see you all here soon!

Aachen Chagall Exhibition
Posted: Mon June 9, 2003 09:36 PM UTC
Hi art-lovers,

I was wondering if anyone has been to the Chagall Exhibition in Aachen yet.

I heard they charge 10 Euro... The exhibition is probably great, but is it worth so much money?

The other problem is it's only open until July 6, so there's not much time left for saving money ;-)
