West Bank Volunteer work in Ramallah
Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 08:37 PM UTC
Marhabba,

I will be attending Birzeit University in Ramallah, and so I have a few questions:

1. What development-oriented volunteer work is there available in Ramallah (preferable close to the Birzeit area)? I am looking for something involving development or human rights type stuff.

2. I will be there for one year, what is involved (and what are your suggestions) in terms of getting a Visa?

3. What are good areas to live near Birzeit University (by good I do not want to be isolated from real palestinian people)?

4. What is there to do for fun in Ramallah? Where can I meet a lot of Palestinian people? Where can I meet university-aged palestinians? and lastly what is there in terms of a nightlife in Ramallah?

Shukrun!

Palestine Travelling to Palestine alone- Tips needed
Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 12:24 PM UTC
Hi There

I’m travelling to Palestine for the first time alone. I’m a young lady and will be going to do some charity work in Bethlehem. I will be there for a few weeks. I have arranged to stay with an organisation who im at full ease with.
My concerns:
I am travelling to Tel Aviv on a UK passport, I am a British citizen but of Indian origin. I have been told many things about what to expect and im quite nervous now. Is it true once you arrive at the airport everyone is questioned? Also that they have your files to hand so they basically know everything about you. That they can deport you if your answers don’t match what is on file? How intense is the questioning?

The other thing is I will be having a taxi collecting me from the airport to the base. Going from Tel Aviv to Bethlehem are there check points etc?

I know these questions sound silly but going alone to the Middle East esp. to Israel/Palestine if I know what to expect I think it will really help.

Any help of information would be appreciated

Many thanks

Hi - we're flying into Dubai and need to get to Abu Dhabi. I know it's about a 2 hour drive. We'll have alot of stuff so I guess we'll need to take a taxi. What is the approximate cost? Thanks... (How is the driving - should we rent a car?)

Antalya Antalya, Side or Alanya?
Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 04:27 PM UTC
Hi...

Me and 3 of my friends are going to turkey in august. We have some problems in deciding were to go. I have been to Alanya once before, therefore I would like to see a new place. And I liked the idea of Antalya, as we want to do others things than only going to the beach (shop, nightlife, boatours, rafting, aquapark and other activities).
But then I got a call from my sister, who is currently in Side, saying many said they prefer Side over Alanya and Antalya...

One other quesion. I was wondering if there are balconies on this laguna hotel? and if there isn't any beaches closer than 2 km away?
I found this one hotel in Anatalya at the adress:
Bahcelievler Mah. Teomanpasa Cad. No 53 07100 Antalya
this webside is in norwegian, and I found no language switch for it, but u can see the location on the map on the site

Damascus Damascus Train Tickets
Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 06:07 AM UTC
Hey everyone,

I'll be arriving in Damascus early in July, and I'll be staying for quite a while. Anyway, I've been visiting Damascus every summer now for a couple of years, and I thought I might try and travel a bit outwards this time. So, my plan is to take a train, the Taurus Express (Toros Exkspresi), from Damascus to Istanbul. As much as I've been to Syria, I've never really traveled anywhere else by train so I have no idea how to go about this. I know my way around the city very well but I was wondering how and where I could buy tickets? Should I buy them while I'm still here in the U.S. or will it be okay if I buy them when I arrive in Damascus because I will be arriving in July but I am not planning on traveling to Istanbul until August? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Izmir Prices in Izmir
Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 02:23 AM UTC
Hello...

Can anyone tell me what the cost is of some items just to give me an idea of it's prices in T. Lira?

For example, how much is a can of coke or how much does a postcard cost in Lira please?

Are there souvenir stalls outside where the Library of Celsus is located? In case we need bottled water, how much do these cost at this area?

Thank you very much.

Tel Aviv-Yafo Tel Aviv on the Sabbath
Posted: Fri June 26, 2009 09:18 PM UTC
We're going to be in Tel Aviv on a Friday until Saturday. Will everything in the city be closed? Does public transportation close down? Will I be able to find restaurants and shops that are open. We will be staying at the Dan Panorama Hotel. I would like to be able to pick up some gifts while I'm there. I don't want to spend the time in my hotel.

Thanks
