Szczecin Sidetrips from Szczecin
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 07:44 PM UTC
Hello VT friends and members,

We will be in Szczecin for a long weekend in teh middle of July. We are also thinking about going on a daytrip or at least a sidetrip to another town from Szczecin, preferably to the Baltic coast.

Ideas already include Kolobrzeg or Swinoujscie. So what are the best otions to get there by public transport? For me it looks like trains are kind of slow on these routes.

Please feel free to suggest any other places which shouldn't be missed as sidetrips when in Szczecin.

If anyone is interested in a little VT meeting in Szczecin around the 17th until the 19th of July, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you

Warsaw Warsaw-Poland. Accomodation etc
Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 07:25 AM UTC
Hello,

I will be in Warsaw 17-18 July. Maybe I will need some hotel/hostel for night. Preferably some cheaper and somewhere in the centre of the city, or close to Warszawa Zachodnia station.

Can you recomend some cheap accomodation?
Must I book room in a hotel now, or it is possible to find free room at the day of arrival?

Is there luggage room in Zachodnia station where i could put my luggage?

Thanks!:)

Krakow Currency in Poland/bus transfer from airport
Posted: Wed July 1, 2009 07:55 PM UTC
Hello

I have a few questions on Krakow which I would be grateful if anyone could answer.

1. Is the Euro accepted in Poland or will I need Polish Zloty? (I know
that Poland has not yet adopted the Euro but I believe that some
countries where the Euro is not the currency, do often accept it).

2 What bus do I need to get from Krakow airport from the centre and where
does it stop in Krakow centre?

Does it stop anywhere near Wielopole Street?

If not, which tram or bus to get from the main train station to
Wielopole and which number bus/tram would I need?

3. What time do the buses/trams start running in a morning back to the
airport?

Sorry for so many questions, but any answers would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Lodz Running in Lodz???
Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 10:19 AM UTC
I am travelling to Lodz for 3 - 4 days during July. what are the option to go for a run. I will be staying in the Centre of Lodz in the Grand Hotel and will be dependant on taxi so i'd prefer running routes that are local to the city area.

I have been in Lodz a number of times before but always during the Winter time.

Warsaw Krakow/Warsaw or Warsaw/Krakow
Posted: Sat June 20, 2009 09:00 AM UTC
Am considering a few days in Warsaw just before/after the May EuroMeet in Krakow. Don't know yet which it will be.

Main interests: Polish History, Jewish history, art and culture. Not interested in discos, lively evenings, etc. PLEASE don't tempt me with too much good food!
What do you suggest seeing?

Re travel to/from Krakow - Suggestions requested: Train, bus, flight?

Thanks!

Krakow How to get to Krakow for 6th European VT Meeting on 28-30 May 2010?
Posted: Sat June 20, 2009 01:37 AM UTC
Please share with me and others information on how are you going to get to the 6th official European Virtual Tourist Meeting which will take place in krakow on 28-30 May 2010?

I put some info on my homepage but I need your help to update it. Just a few specific questions:
- how to find out the best air fares to Krakow from overseas (Australia, USA, Canada, Argentina, South Africa etc. etc.)?
- when and where to book flights to Krakow?
- what internet pages do you use to find your flights?

Best regards,
And again: you are welcome to Krakow very much! :-)

Poland Traveling to Gdansk and Poznan around the big Krakow 2010 Euromeet
Posted: Wed June 17, 2009 02:22 AM UTC
Comments/suggestions appreciated.

It's a bit early, but I'm looking at different options for my 2010 Euromeet itinerary. I would come in from the US, and I'm debating what would make more sense. Along w/the Krakow meet I have signed up for the Vienna pre-meet and Romania post-meet. I will probably be flying into Frankfurt, Berlin, or maybe Wien. Have looked at some of the "top 5 member" Transportation tips as well as the Die Bahn site which shows trains into both Gdansk and Poznan.

These are all random, tentative ideas/questions:

1. Are the trains within Poland safe for a woman traveling alone, or are some segments better than others? I'm trying to get my friend to come w/me though! ;=)

2. I am looking at a combination of plane/train. What would be the most sensible way to make a nice loop into Krakow:

-If coming from Frankfurt: Fly into Gdansk, train to Poznan, train to Krakow? ...

-If coming from Berlin: All train?

-What about flying from Vienna to Poznan - then taking the train into Krakow?

-Leaving out Poznan?

Maybe this is becoming a bit much, but all these places seem to invite extending to the next.

Your thoughts and comments welcome/appreciated!

Poland Visa to Poland (for citizens of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine)
Posted: Sun June 14, 2009 12:56 AM UTC
How difficult is to get a visa to Poland (Schengen visa) for citizens of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine?

I started early preparations for the next official European Virtual Tourist Meeting which will take place in Poland next year (Krakow, 28-29-30 May 2010; more links on my homepage).

I would like to invite and meet my VT-friends from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine and add some info on how to get Schengen visa for them and others on the meeting page I am going to put up. That's why I ask.

Best regards,
Matt.

Katowice Bus Timetable advice please
Posted: Sun May 17, 2009 08:30 PM UTC
Hi, we are travelling to Katowice airport wkend 10th July we dont land till the early hours of saturday morning so decided to get the bus to Krakow and stay their the night as we thought it would be quicker to travel at that time of the night than in the morning. We will spend the day exploring Krakow then plan to return to katowice saturday night and stay over before flying back sunday evening. We would like to visit Auschwitz independently (not on a tour) and thought it would be easier to get to from Katowice but I am having difficulty finding bus time tables as I don't speak polish. Can anyone advise me what time I could catch a bus on the 12th July and how long the journey takes? We would probably aim to get a bus around 8am ish not sure what time we would need to head back probably around 4pm as we fly at 19:45. Any advice greatly appreciated. :-)

Warsaw Train Warsaw-Berlin
Posted: Tue May 12, 2009 07:39 AM UTC
Hi there,

Sorry if this has been dealt with already (I had a quick scan through the forum but couldn't find this topic...)

I'd like to take the train from Warsaw to Berlin on 2nd June...there's a train that leaves Warszawa Centralna at 11:30 and arrives in Berlin Ostbf. at about 17:00. Polrail quoted me a price of 251 PLN plus a ticket delivery price of 21PLN.

I am currently living in Russia and unfortunately there is no time for the ticket to be delivered to me before I leave the country.

Will it be possible for me to buy a ticket to Berlin on the day of departure? And will the price be the same/less or more?

Thanks in advance!
