Rotterdam Rotterdam Airport to Ridderkerk - I'm going mad here!
Posted: Fri August 28, 2009 12:55 PM UTC
Hi All,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to read this, I have been driving myself mad trying to get information off the internet.

We will be travelling from Rotterdam Airport to Ridderkerk (the Van de Valk hotel) on the 2nd September and I am trying to find out how much it would cost to go by taxi. So far I have found everything from 45euros to 119euros -one way! - but I can't believe it costs that much, does it?

Other than those prices I can't find anywhere to prebook a transfer which I thought might be better than trying to find a taxi at the airport.

Also I read somewhere online that you need to pay a taxi by a pre-paid card, is this correct? Can we not pay in cash? Would we be better off going by bus? Is it easy?

I know I'm being cheeky here, but can I ask one more question, please? We were told we were going to Rotterdam (it was a competition win) is Ridderkerk a long way from Rotterdam shops etc? or the zoo?

Sorry about all that info and questions :o) Thanks again, Hope you all have a great weekend, x

Provincie Zuid-Holland Roads for Non-Motorway Traffic
Posted: Wed July 15, 2009 03:37 PM UTC
I am taking an 81 year old car to just north of Ijmuiden from Europoort and am OK from Europoort to Massluis across the ferry.
I know that Netherlands motorways have small roads at the side for traffic that is prohibited from the motorway but how is it possible to tell that the road is not just a cyclepath?

Rotterdam Kinderdijk Tour
Posted: Mon May 25, 2009 06:45 PM UTC
We are going to be landing from a cruise ship in Rotterdam in the morning of June 24th, and would like to go to Kinderdijk on some kind of tour. I do not think I will have the energy on day 15 of an 18 day trip to be hopping on and off public transportation. We have to get off the ship and get to our hotel (the Golden Tulip and drop our luggage off before we take the tour, and we want to be back for the VT meeting at 7:30.

It looks like there are two possibilities for a boat tour

1. Canal Tour: 30-minutes which takes you along a row of windmills fully-narrated tour. The first tour is at 10:00 am, and the last one departs at 5:00 pm. This looks very flexible.

Does this leave from Kinderdijk?

2. Boat Excursion on the "Nehalennia" - this leaves at 10:45 am and 2:15pm. Refreshments are sold, but it only stays at the dock for 45 minutes before returning to Rotterdam. I'm told that 45 minutes is not sufficient for the Canal tour and to visit a windmill. Also I'm not sure whether I could get there by 10:45, and the 2:15 is too late.

Are there any other tours that go out there that would leave us enough time for the canal tour and to see the windmill?

The Hague The Hague and Scheveningen this very Monday!
Posted: Fri May 8, 2009 07:53 AM UTC
Dear friends,

Scheveningen:
I am invited to join our Erasmus students for a visit in The Hague this upcoming Monday.
During lunch time (12:00-14:00 approx) we are going to Scheveningen.
If the weather would be nice I could have taken my picknick but I wonder... so does anyone knows where there is affordable but nice place where I could take a light lunch or snack and a drink if needed?

The Hague.
After finishing our program around 17u00 a 17u30, we still have two free hours to run around in The Hague before returning.
If you like we could meet up for a drink or snack, or if you could give me advice where to go or what to see in few hours time... pls let me know !
I probably won't be together with the students then, I might be together with a few accompaning colleagues.

Thanks already!

Or should I postpone my visit by a week or so? Till when are the flowers supposed to be in bloom??? And till when can I see the tulip fields??? Any ideas when does the harvesting of the tulips start in the fields???

Lisse Golden Tulip Lisse Hotel and Restaurant De Nachtegaal
Posted: Wed April 8, 2009 09:58 PM UTC
hello,

We are going to Lisse this spring to visit Keukenhof. Since we are travelling with our baby, I have several questions regarding :

1. Golden Tulips Lisse Hotel
- Does anyone have more info about this hotel?I was trying to find some reviews about this hotel but found only a few not-so-good ones.
- Are there any close supermarket or convenience store nearby since we are not opting for meals in their restaurant for 3 days and 2 nights.
- Also, the hotel page says that it is close (15min) to the beach but when I checked how to get to Noordwijk Aan Zee (assuming it is the beach referred by the hotel page), we still have to take the bus, then train then bus again. Is there a better way by public transport?

2. Keukenhof Express Combi-Ticket

We plan to buy combi-ticket but our questions are:
- if we buy express bus ticket from schipol to keukenhof, can we get off at the hotel first and not in keukenhof and visit keukenhof the next day(see itinerary) or is the combi-ticket good for one day bus trip to keukenhof then return trip also at the same day?
- i noticed that is is the same price whether you come from amsterdam or schipol(€23). If we buy ticket from schipol going to keukenhof, and plan to go to amsterdam after, is the ticket still valid on the bus from schipol to amsterdam?

Our itinerary for 2 days would be:
1st day - hotel check-in in the afternoon then go to the nearest beach
2nd day - keukenhof whole day
3rd day - hotel check-out, quick visit to amsterdam

The itinerary is still not final, though. It depends on the info we would get.

Thanks so much in advance :)

cheers,
ning

Rotterdam Thank You Rotterdam!!
Posted: Wed April 8, 2009 06:07 PM UTC
Hi all,
I know this is long overdue. I was in Rotterdam in June 2007 to write the biography of Indian flute maestro Hariprasad Chaurasia who teaches at the conservatory there. Consequently the book has a 27-page chapter on Holland/Rotterdam. The book was launched on his 70th birthday at Mumbai India on 1 July 2008 by India’s biggest movie star, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. A photograph of the event is on my VT home page. Hariprasad Chaurasia has been made an OFFICIER in the Order of Oranje-Nassau by the Dutch Minister for Education and Culture on 12 November 2008. I believe it is a big honour. Can someone please tell me what this is all about?
I wish to say thank you to the beautiful and friendly people of Rotterdam who made my stay there very memorable. VT member ATLC went out of her way to show me around the city and drove me over the 3 bridges. There were some though – no names – who did not even respond to my mail, but that’s OK. Everyone these days is suspicious of people from so-called third world countries.
I hope to be back in Rotterdam someday. Loved the place!!
If any one of you is coming to my home town of Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) please contact me. I will be more than happy to show you around the city.
Warmest regards to all you Rotterdamers

Rotterdam zestien hoven
Posted: Tue March 24, 2009 01:12 AM UTC
I am planning on making my way to Holland in April either via France of England.
If I end up at Rotterdam airport, what would be the easiest way to go to Maassluis?
I know there is a bus from the airport to Schiedam, can I get a bus or a train at that station in Schiedam to Maassluis can I buy tickets at the station or on the bus ? Or am I better off taking the bus from Rotterdam airport to Rotterdam Central Train station and taking the train to Maassluis?
Thanks,
Bedankt

Keukenhof Is a all-in-one ticket a return?
Posted: Mon March 16, 2009 05:33 AM UTC
Going to Keukenhof with dd in a couple of weeks. We are coming to Netherlands from the UK via ferry to Hook of Holland. We take the train as part of this "rail and sail" fare to Rotterdam and from there can take any train to any city. I would like us to go from Rotterdam to Lisse Central and take the Connexxion bus to the Keukenhof, but I do not want to return to Lisse, as our hotel for the night is in Amsterdam. Can I use the Connexxion bus and entry ticket to go on directly to Amsterdam after we view the gardens? If not, what is the fastest and cheapest way on from the gardens to Amsterdam Centraal? Many thanks!
