Baltimore looking for a hotel in downtown Baltimore
Posted: Mon May 18, 2009 03:54 PM UTC
Hi, I'm going to Balt. Aug 1-3 for a baseball game. I'm looking for someplace reasonable to stay near the downtown attractions. A B&B or a hotel is fine. Thanks--also, any ideas on what to do during my stay? Garrett

How much parking is there at the Hunt Valley Station and what exit on I 83 do you take to get there? Also what is the rail stop for the Inner Harbour, say for the Aquariam? Thanks Eilynne

Baltimore Getting around in Baltimore
Posted: Thu April 30, 2009 02:52 PM UTC
What's the best way to get around Baltimore without my own transport? I may need to travel frequently between Homewood(JHU) and downtown, is it better to stay in downtown or near Homewood? Any comments or info on Double Tree Inn (across JHU), Radisson at Cross Key and the Mt Washington convention center?
With a family of three, is it cheaper to travel in cabs? What's the fare structure around downtown? Will appreciate any reply.

Baltimore JHU Homewood campus

Would appreciate if anyone can suggest a decent hotel near Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus? Any nice place to eat or places to avoid. Heard about the crime rates in Baltimore, are there any particular areas to avoid? What is the most convenient public transport.
Thanks.

Baltimore Baltimore Waterfront to DC via Public Transportation
Posted: Fri March 20, 2009 07:37 PM UTC
I will be in Baltimore for a conference in June staying on the waterfront at the Baltimore Marriot Waterfront. While in the area I would like to go to the Nations Capital for a visit. This would be on a Monday. Could someone let me know the best way or ideas on how to do this without renting a car. Also what other things are there to do in Baltimore within walking distance to the Waterfront area.

Baltimore VT Staff Member needs help with a special project
Posted: Mon October 27, 2008 03:05 AM UTC
Hi Everyone,

It's VT staffer, Courtney here and I'm trying to help a journalist with a project. He's working on an article about TV and movie-based tourism and wants to know if anyone has ever heard of anyone in Baltimore giving "Wire" tours - i.e, tours of city landmarks featured on the TV show "The Wire."

If you have, or if you've taken one yourself, please email me at paris92@vtmail.com or courtney@virtualtourist.com as soon as possible.

As always, I'm so appreciative of your help!!!

Take care,
Courtney

I live in downtown Bethesda, but work at the Univ. of Maryland at Baltimore. Presently, I commute by car, and have a parking space at the Univ. garage. Due to the present steep spike in the gas prices, I am willing to go for carpooling.

Is there anyone who commutes to Baltimore fom bethesda and back, and is willing to carpool? Please let me know at e-mail address prallabhandi@som.umaryland.edu.

Thanks.

Baltimore Baltimore area info needed
Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 04:17 AM UTC
We have 4 days to do the Baltimore area (I know, we need more time). Obviously we need to maximize our time. We would like to visit Annapolis, Ft. McHenry, Fell's Point, and the D.C. area for a day. I know this is a lot to squeeze in, but I've been trying to get our friends there for years. I want to show them a lot.
*Any suggestions for an Inner Harbor Hotel that won't break the bank?
*Since we want to go these other places, would staying somewhere inbetween make sense?
*Isn't there an interesting (perhaps historical) town inbetween Baltimore and Annapolis?
*Have a missed anything we should see/do? Thanks!

Baltimore commute from towson, md to bolling afb
Posted: Wed January 30, 2008 11:46 PM UTC
I'm planning on doing a 5-week externship at the bolling airforce base in DC. My boyfriend lives in Towson..how painful will the commute be by car? How long during rush hour would it take? My hours are 7am-4pm. Thanks!

I'm used to long commutes. I go from NH to Boston everyday, which is 1.5-2 hours.

Baltimore Air Force Base to Baltimore
Posted: Fri November 30, 2007 03:18 AM UTC
Hello Everyone! My parents are planning to visit family in Baltimore (Edgewood) using a military flight. They are older and not used to driving in different weather conditions (we are from So. California). I am worried about that. Is there another way for them to get to Baltimore from either Dover AFB or Andrews AFB? I am thinking that a cab would be too expensive. Is there some sort of shuttle service at a fixed price? Or maybe even public transportation? Thanks for any help that you can give.

Baltimore Commute from Reston to Baltimore
Posted: Wed November 14, 2007 03:46 AM UTC
I am attending a conference in Baltimore in the coming weeks. As I live in Reston, I would come down the toll road to the inner loop north to 95 north. In the evenings, I would reverse, taking 95 south to the outer loop to toll road.

Am I generally flowing against the Baltimore commuter traffic staying north and west of the city (aside from the 270 split)? How long should I expect the trip around the beltway for at 6:45 a.m. and 6:15p.m. respectively?

Thanks,
jtfinn

Baltimore Questions about BWI Amtrak Station
Posted: Wed October 31, 2007 08:58 PM UTC
What is the best way to reach the Amtrak station and avoid heavy traffic if coming from Parkville?

Also, can anyone tell me where the Quicktrak ticket kiosks and outbound tracks are?

If my train is at 3, how soon do I need to arrive?

Baltimore What is quickest way to BWI from DC on day before Thanksgiving?
Posted: Sat September 29, 2007 06:48 PM UTC
On the day before Thanksgiving, I need to get from DC (Georgetown) to BWI to take a Southwest airlines flight to Manchester, NH, then travel to Boston. My choices are train, then bus shuttle to the Terminal, or bus from DC. It's one of the busiest travel days, so I'm worried about packed highways. Since the airport will be so busy, I think I should allow 2 hrs to get through security lines at the airport itself rather than the airline-recommended 1 1/2 hrs. I don't know how much time to allow myself to get from DC's Union Station to the airport on that busy day. Would it be better to get a flight from IAD (Dulles) to Boston?

Baltimore Commutes from Baltimore
Posted: Tue September 25, 2007 11:41 PM UTC
Hi, my partner and I are moving to Baltimore. We currently live/work in Philly and DC, and for at least the next couple of years will be sticking with our jobs. So, we're both trying to find the best mix of quick, yet economical commuting routes. We know we'll use the MARC for the DC commute, but it's the Philly one that's difficult...it looks like most of the older posts recommend Amtrak, but that has skyrocketed from $500 to $944 since those last posts! Any other suggestions? Even if you know an easy way to get to the Wilmington Septa station, that might be helpful...we can take the Regional Rail from there!

Thanks!

Im into BWI in the next few weeks and wondering if it is faster and or cheaper to use MARC than using the BWI Express bus to the Greenbelt Metro station...Im guessing that MARC would be faster and more direct than using bus and then Metro...
Would anybody have any suggestions please...?

Baltimore Using MARC Trains - Getting to DC
Posted: Sun July 15, 2007 07:13 PM UTC
I was looking at a day (week day) trip from Baltimore to Wash. DC. I see that there are 2 MARC train lines. The Penn Station one seems to have more times. However, the Camden Line schedule says it stops at Washington Union Station whereas the Penn Line stop simply says Washington? Does anyone know for sure if that's Union Station too or where the Penn Line does stop in Washington? Also, how easy is it to find your way around Union Station? Are there signs to follow to get to where they sell the MARC tickets and signs that are easy to follow to find the MARC trains from there?

Baltimore Help On Moderate Restaurants
Posted: Mon July 9, 2007 05:42 PM UTC
I am going to be staying in Baltimore (Inner-Harbor, Pier 5 hotel) the first week in August, with my wife and 2 kids. In other forums, I have seen others writing that the Inner-Harbor restaurants are all expensive and everything is ala cart.

I am looking for any suggestions and/or links to family friendly or moderately priced restaurants in the area.
