My husband and I have a short weekend in Boston. We are trying to choose between two restaurants that seem to both get raving reviews on here. Which one should we go to: Legal Seafoods or Union Oyster House? Thank you in advance for your suggestion!

Boston What to do in Marlborough with a group of boys?
Posted: Wed October 7, 2009 03:47 PM UTC
We will be in Marlborough/Milford Oct 23-25 for a hockey tournament. What would you recommend for 2 groups of 15 very active boys, ages 10-14, to do? Some in our groups will have a nice block of time to go into Boston or Salem, but others only have 4-5 hours available. I am sure there are some very good local activities that I cannot find on the internet. One thing we were trying to do is see a college ice hockey game, but the internet search turned up all away games. Where can we find the best pizza in Marlborough and Milford? Is there any good (quick) method of travel into Boston? TIA

Boston Hotel or Lodging Needed
Posted: Tue September 29, 2009 11:33 PM UTC
We are thinking of doing a Boston Halloween Tour and would like to find a moderately priced hotel/bed and breakfast, etc. for that night. The tour is over by 7:30pm. We would not mind staying in an area outside of the city, but don't want to travel more than 30 to 40 minutes.

Boston Hotel suggestions: In which part of the city??
Posted: Sun September 27, 2009 02:46 PM UTC
Dear Bostonians (or other Boston experts),

In December 4-8 I'm going to a professional meeting in Boston. It takes place in the Hynes Convention Center. My wife is accompanying me.

I'm now looking for a hotel (preferrably 4-star), better if it's in the general area of the Convention Center (Back Bay), but more importantly it has to be ok for my wife: She has to be able to get in and out on her own (when I'm in the conference), so we're looking for an area which is "walkable", safe to walk (at least in daytime), conveniently located with respect to shopping areas...

Would you recommend staying in the Back Bay area (does it matter if it's Back Bay West or Back Bay East?), in the West End area, or in the Financial District?
Any recommendation for specific hotels?

Thanks,
Ilan

Boston 2 Day Visit - What to Do?
Posted: Fri September 25, 2009 05:42 PM UTC
My husband and I are flying into Boston for a weekend date, and we would like to know what things are a MUST SEE in Boston? I've looked at the part of the Boston page with suggestions, but there are so many! We are open to anything, so I would like to hear what you suggest for a 2 day visit. If you have restaurant suggestions for something romantic and / or a place that is a must-go in Boston for Boston food, I would like your suggestions as well.

Thank you!

Boston Public transportation from cruise ship at Black Falcon to Boston Commons
Posted: Thu September 17, 2009 03:32 PM UTC
I'll be arriving via cruise ship and thinking about taking public transportation into town, specifically, to the Visitors Center at Boston Commons to take the Freedom Trail tour. Looks like there might be public transportation from the cruise ship to Boston Commons via bus and train. Can someone confirm the routing I would need to take?

Also, looks like the bus/train fare is $2 from Black Falcon Ave near where the cruise ship docks, to take the bus then train to Boston Commons for the start of the Freedom Trail walk. I have a question about the fare. If I first take the bus, will the bus driver issue me a transfer/ticket, or something to use for the train from So Station to Park St. Station? Can someone explain how this works? Thanks!

Boston Transport to and from U2 concert on Sunday night 09.20.09?
Posted: Thu September 17, 2009 10:00 AM UTC
Hello all
I'm heading to the U2 concert on Sunday night in Gillette Stadium. I've just found out the distance between the stadium and Boston city centre is about 35 miles&that the only shuttle bus doing a service between the 2 is a 'Rock Bus' and they are all sold out! It seems from their website though, that there are only 4 buses going from Boston South (Station Bus Terminal). There is a sort of suggestion box which i filled. But at the moment i am making no headway.
I don't really fancy the thought of getting a taxi in either direction, although it may well come down to that. As naturally i don't want to be stuck out in the suburbs late at night, not knowing where i am.
If anyone can provide me with more information about whether more Rock Buses are being ran (depending on numbers of requests), then i would very much appreciate it.
I'd feeling a bit nervous about this at the moment
Many thanks everyone

Boston Military history stuff in Boston?
Posted: Tue September 15, 2009 09:38 PM UTC
Hello all
I'm heading to good old Boston for the first time this weekend and i was wondering if anyone could recommend stuff in Boston of military/historical interest? Monuments, memorials, museums, anything really. I'm mainly interested in ww1 and ww2 stuff, but i'm keen on anything historical really. I know there's a lot of history in the city, but if anyone can recommend anything specific i'd be very thankful :)
Cheers!

Boston Rail system in Boston - what are the 8 zones and how do I know which to use?
Posted: Tue September 15, 2009 01:06 AM UTC
Hi,

We visited Boston today. We planned to leave the car at the Alewife station and use the train to our destination. We felt terribly confused when we tried using their automatic ticket machines. When we tried buying the tickets, the system asked which zone we were using. We figured it out by luck, but we couldn't find what the stinky zones meant (on a map, distance wise, what they are, which applied to us, etc).

Do any of you know how that works or how to find that info?

We only noticed a map on the wall telling about lines and streets, but nothing about zones. It wasn't on their brochures either.

Thank you in advance,
Gatopardo

Boston seek Boston area hotels for Oct 21 to 25
Posted: Wed August 19, 2009 06:58 PM UTC
We are mature San Francisco couple traveling first time to Boston
on Oct 21 to 25. We seek moderately priced hotel. We will tour
all the popular and favorite sightseeing spots.
We do not mind further outside areas by taking the subway.
We are comfortable with hotels with 3 stars, something simple like Holilday
Express. What areas should we look for hotels and what price range we need
to pay? Thank you.

Boston Hotels close to or in North End
Posted: Sun August 9, 2009 04:48 AM UTC
Looking for recommendations on hotels/b&b's in the North End or close to North End. I am visiting my brother (in a week) who lives in the area and I would like to stay either in a reasonably priced hotel that is close to his place so I can walk down to his apt. or near enough to where I can easily take the T or a bus. Hotels close to restaurants/nightlife would be a plus.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Boston Restaurants and Neighborhoods
Posted: Mon July 13, 2009 07:49 PM UTC
Hi-
We are going to Boston in Septemeber and will either be staying in the North End or Beacon Hill; is Boston easy to get around on foot and or subway? Also, is there any nightlife in either of the neighborhoos? Also, I love eating delicious food, esp. seafood. What are the restaurants I should not miss out on while I am there? Lastly, if we took a day trip to another state or to Gloucester, what should we do? Leaves changing would be lovely to see or going to another state for delicious food.
Thanks!

I did read the info on the net, but found it is quite complicated, as a stranger and traveller.
Do you know whether there are local tours (including transportation to/from downtown). Where can I approach them?
Thanks

Boston affordable hotels near the amtrak station (south station)
Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 01:52 PM UTC
hi,

my friends and i are planning to visit boston for the july 4th long weekend but instead of driving from philadelphia to boston we just thought of taking the amtrak....

can someone please suggest an affordable place to stay near the BOS (South Station, MA (BOS)) amtrak station? that station is in downtown boston, right? actually don't know which stations in boston should we choose but i thought choosing downtown is where most of the boston life is that's why we chose that station(or maybe im wrong?)

a hotel close to tourist spots would be nice too (we're thinking of getting a boston city pass)...

thanks so much in advance!

If you were to go to a Boston Red Socks game while visiting Boston, what transit would take? I have seen posts which stated after dark the area could be unsafe. I will be staying on the bay.

Boston Boston City Pass!
Posted: Tue June 9, 2009 06:19 PM UTC
My brother is visiting Boston for 3 nights at the end of June and I have mentioned the Boston City Pass. He is interested and the current fee of $44.00 seems great as it covers the cost of:
New England Aquarium
Museum of Fine Arts
Boston Museum of Science
Skywalk Observatory
Harvard Museum of Natural History
OR
John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum

It claims to save 45% on the actual price of visiting these places, the only problem is that he doesn't want to visit the New England Aquarium and wants to do both the Harvard Museum and the John F Kennedy Library/Museum.

Is there any other way to do the above and given that he'll only have 2 full days in Boston - will it be possible?
