1870 Banana Courtyard, Lamothe House and area Posted: Tue March 24, 2009 08:57 PM UTC
We are going to NO early November. Thinking of staying at Banana Courtyard or Lamothe House. We are concerned about the area around it (Esplanade and N. Rampart). Is it a safe area to walk around....especially in the evening? For those who know both places, what would be your choice. Thanks for any info in advance.

Traveling to New Orleans Posted: Sun March 8, 2009 12:31 PM UTC
Hi,
Whare are people's thoughts on my friend and I visiting New Orleans this July? Obviously we have heard of the devastation but do not know to what extent the city has been damaged and what sort of a state it is in now. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thank you

Zydeco Venues Posted: Sun February 22, 2009 05:48 AM UTC
We are from Atlanta and came to New Orleans 2 years ago for St. Patty's Day. We all had such a great time that we have decided to come back for the parades. However, this time we would like to experience more of the New Orleans music. We are staying at the Courtyard Marriott (Canal St and St. Charles Ave) and want to go to the Dragon's Den to hear some music, but was told last time to not walk there due to crime. Is this true and are there any other good venues to find zydeco music?

mobile phone coverage Posted: Tue November 18, 2008 11:11 AM UTC
We will be traveling from Australia to the US in Dec and visiting New Orleans, Orlando & New York City as well as Vancouver & Banff in Canada. I am looking for the most convenient & economical way to have mobile phone coverage in these cities. Am I better off buying a prepaid card for my existing phone (Nokia N95) or buying a phone & access package? I would like to avoid having to purchase something separate for each individual location if possible.Or if you have a better idea please feel free to share it.

Cemetery tours & Barataria Reserve Posted: Mon November 17, 2008 11:47 AM UTC
We will be in New Orleans in early December and are interested in possibly doing a cemetery tour. Are they any good and can you recommend one. Also is the Barataria Reserve in Jean Lafitte national park worth spending a couple of hours of our time, did it suffer any damage during the recent hurricanes?

so many questions, so little space Posted: Thu November 13, 2008 08:11 PM UTC
We are 60+ couple, young at heart, visiting NO and surrounding area for 1st time for about 2 weeks. We love to dance (OLD R&R, swing, blues, cajun, zydeco, latin, contra and so on.)
1. Is NO dead in early Feb? (Mardis Gras not our thing) Weather?
2. Besides Rock 'n Bowl, where to go for dancing in NO?
3. We are planning to dance our way through Cajun and Zydeco country. Recommendations?
4. We are thinking of staying at the Prince Conti in the Quarter but are open to suggestions. What would a good B&B cost? (Our budget can stand 150 or so per nite)
5. We want to do the usual tourist stuff but our real love is discover the real city and real people. Any recommendations for what to see/do/eat OUTSIDE the tourist area?
6. Perhaps we need a personal, home-based tour planner who can point us in the right direction. Got any names?
Thanks,
Dave

Swamp tours Posted: Wed November 12, 2008 08:50 PM UTC
we will be traveling to NO in late December and would like to do a swamp tour. We will be hiring a car so we don't require a city pickup. We have looked at a few sites on the internet ie; "Cajun Pride" , "Dr Wagner's Honey Island" both seem OK We would like a tour that best showcases the local Flora & fauna. We would prefer a smaller tour group size so we don't feel that we are sharing our swamp experience with hundreds of other people. Have also seen Cajun Jacks tours, but they are a long drive from NO would it be worth the drive.
Regards Johnfromoz.

Post New Years Activity Posted: Mon November 10, 2008 07:36 PM UTC
Hey Ya'll
New Orleans has been on my radar for sometime. My wife and I (both Canadian, young 50s) have an opportunity to visit Jan 1 to 4th. Is it business as usual or is there a hang over after New Years?
We'd like to take in the ferry, park, zoo, aquarium, Magazine Str, the quarter -be nice to do a short trip from New Orleans if time premits - plantations & cajun country. We don't plan to stay in the quater but perhaps the business district.
