My husband has a conference in march in NO and I want to come along. Most of the recommended hotels near the convention center are booked (except for the Hilton riverside) so he got us a room at the royal sonesta hotel..It this a nice hotel? we are on a budget, he company will pay for the room, but we also need to find some great cheap places to eat and drink,, that hotel is way too pricey to eat at.. Any ideas would be great..

is April a good time to visit (weather wise) ? i havent been to new orleans in two years (WAY too long!!!) and a friend of mine and i are planning to visit in April...is this a good time of year to visit? if i can get some info on how the fabourg marigny is doing, i'd appreciate it 'cause this was one o my fave places to hang out on thurs-sunday nights...i've been back to new orleans after Katrina, for jazz fest, but dont necessarily have to go during jazz fest now...i just want to go to places that are up and running well...last time i was there, so many places werent in order (like some museums and such)...

i know there are plenty of websites that i can look into, but i want to hear from locals or people who've spent some serious time there lately (not organizations that will promise you THEIR place is the best)

We are planning a trip to new orleans December 11, 2008 to December 16, 2008. it is my husband's 50th birthday. We have been to the French Quarter many times just not in the winter. Is there a public transportation connection between the French Quarter and the University of New Orleans? If so, where can you board in the Quarter and where do you get off near the University? HELP!!!

When I think of New Orleans, I think of Mardi Gras and partying, but would you bring your kids there?

Hi! I really appreciated everyone's great advice on where to stay! I do have one more question. We will be in New Orleans in December for 2 days. We will have our three grown children with us, ages 23, 20, and 17. Of course, we'd like to go out in the French Quarter at night and hear some jazz. Is there anywhere we can go where the 17 year old can join us? Preservation Hall? Any suggestions? Thanks!

How to choose among all the available tours??? My boyfriend will be staying downtown and will not have a car. What is/are good swamp tours that will pick-up from a hotel? The air boats sound fun - but do they get as close to the alligators as the slow boats? I want to be sure he gets to take pictures of them feeding marshmallows to them! We are looking to go to New Orleans in March and are undecided between staying at The Ritz Carlton or Le Pavillon, has anyone stayed at these two hotels and which is the best. Have read very good and bad reports on both hotels?

Also what will the weather be like in mid March.

We will be making our first trip to New Orleans in December. We'll be cruising to the W Caribbean from there, but we will have 2 nights in the city first. Where should we stay where we will be able to walk to Bourbon Street but, preferrably, not have to pay an arm and a leg for parking? Safety is a concern, too. By the way, it will be 2 adults, a 23 yr old, 20 year old, and a 17 year old. Also, in our limited time there, what should we not miss - cemetery tour, French Quarter, ??? Would really appreciate your suggestions! THANKS!

I am looking at staying at French Quarter Suites on 1119 North Rampart Street. I am looking at staying there with a group of about 11 other people. I come to Nola every year and usually stay at the Royal Sonesta but thought of trying something. I know to be careful but how safe would it be walking to and from Bourbon from Rampart? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

So, me and my (soon to be) husband are planning to come to New Orleans (The French Quarter) for our honeymoon. Now I would like to know the MUST places to visit. We would like to experience "old time blues clubs", good food and above all, we would like to know is there any vampireclubs/bars/etc you could ecommend? I've trying to contact one of the Flea Market vendors. Her name is Shirley and I believe her company was Apocathary D'Orleans. She sold the worlds best incense and I ordered from her for years before Katrina but I haven't been able to contact anyone since so I don't know if they are still there.
She sold Blue Sonata, Tranquility, Rain and many others.

Does anyone know this Flea Market vendor and if so can you post a phone number?
