i am looking for Laura and her brother who owned the french market seafood co. Does anyone know if she is still in business or can be contacted. i need to order more of their seasonings..
i have been one of her customers for many many years. mabey katrina blew them away. SO any help is greatly appreciated.

Next summer my friend and I are planning to spend about a week in New Orleans. Where is probably the safest area for two females to stay? I know how to stay safe (beware of surroundings, no dark alleys that sort of thing) but we really don't want to stay in a seedy area either.

Can someone give advice when to go to madi gras. What days i should go? The exact dates.

What is the best ground transportation, other than renting a car, to go from New Orleans Internation Airport to Baton Rouge, our flight gets in mid afternoon. Are there any airport shuttles bet. the two airports?

My wife and I will be arriving in New Orleans this Thursday around 11pm and will be staying at the Marriott Hotel in the Convention Center. We would like to know what is the best transportation to use when we get there and when we leave?
We know that the airport shuttle is $30/ea round trip, but we would like to know if taxi or bus would be cheaper and easier to travel? How long would it take for the types of tranportation to/from the hotel to the airport?
We both will be carrying only a small carry-on luggage for 4 days.

PS how far is the convention center to the French Quarter? Is there a streetcar or trolley available around the convention center?

I know there are a few restaurants on St Charles that provide food, drink and a place to watch the parade for a fee. Can anybody give me any suggestions? I have found two so far. Cannon's Restaurant and Michaul's Restaurant. We are coming the Thursday before Mardi Gras and have to leave on Sunday because of prior commitments but are planning on finding a place to watch parades on Saturday for Endymion.
Let me know Ideas.

I will be in New Orleans over part of Labor Day Weekend. Is anyone interested in meeting for a drink the evening of either Friday, September 4th, or Saturday, September 5th, either in the French Quarter or in the Faubourg Marigny? I was thinking about taking a holiday in New Orleans next Summer, to celebrate completing my first year of university. The problem is I'm extraordinarily pale skinned. Will I be burnt to a crisp, or baked alive in the blistering heat?

We're going to Mardi Gras in Feb 2010 and looking for suggestions of the best place to stay without paying over $200/night. We'd like to stay within a couple blocks of Bourbon Street, minimum 3 stars.

We went to Mardi Gras in 2002 and stayed in a Courtyard Marriott in the CBD but in walking distance from the French Quarter. Got it through priceline.com and it was only $90/night! I've just checked and it's fully booked for 2010.

Also, when we went last time there were no buses from the airport to the city - has that changed? We'd like to avoid taxis if possible ... more money for hand grenades!!! :)

Any tips would be appreciated!

I'm helping a friend book a trip to New Orleans with his new(ish) girlfriend. He is attending a conference at the Morial Convention Centre, but is looking to stay in the French Quarter. Preferably a good hotel that doesn't cost the earth and is not enormous (ie. not a 300+ room mega hotel Marriott/Hilton/Holiday Inn, etc). Maybe something with a bit of character?

Though I've been to New Orleans many times, I haven't been back since before Katrina. I heard that the Rock N Bowl has moved to a new location. What is the approximate cab fare to get there now from the French Quarter?

Also, where are the best meat pies & fried green tomatoes in New Orleans, preferably in or closer to the French Quarter?

Thinking of traveling to NO in late feb/early march 2010....will things be cleaned up from mardi gras? Don't want to run into unclean hotels etc, but also want to avoid mardi gras....how long after mardi gras do things usually take to get cleaned up? Do any of the restaurants/attractions shut down for any period of time after mardi gras?

Going to New Orleans with our 7 year old next month. Would like to show him some of the statues as we tour the city. Know about Robt. E. Lee, Andrew Jackson & Joan of Arc. I was led to believe that there is a statue of Ignatius O'Reilly somewhere (possibly on Canal). Any help, hints, directions or suggestions about other statues or sculpture would be a big help. We are senior citizens.My wife and myself are passing thro New Orleans this winter.
We would like to stay in a safe, clean hotel..not too far from the french Q & action.
I have selected the Days inn @ Metairie (I-10 service rd) (about $60/day). The reviews sounds ok.
Does any one have a better one to recommend
What will be the the cost of the taxi from Metairie to Canal st/Elk Pl (Greyhound bus ). It is roughly about 10 Km (6 miles) distance.
Are the main streets in the French Q safe till say 8pm.
What are the best shopping area (curios , boutiques ,small shops and good malls with character.

I have never been to New Orleans. Two of us females will be coming for a long weekend in June. We will be staying at the Chateau Bourbon Hotel on Iberville Street. Is this a safe location? We are in our 60's. Will we fit in or is this a rowdy young area? Thanks for the info. Suzanne

We are planning to visit New Orleans on the 4 of July. What are the musts and what should we avoid? Heard that there are some bad neighbourhoods around there. We are travelling across the whole country so we can't book any hotels unless without loosing all spontaneity. Therefore we plan to pick any hotell downtown or slepp in the car. Good or bad idea???

Next thing we will be dring to Nashville. Is there anyting we should see along the road or is it better to just close our eyes and drive?? :-) We need to be in Nashville on the 6th of July so we have about 2 days to drive...

We are looking at staying in this area but am getting somewhat nervous. Has anyone stayed there? Is it safe? I understand about taxi's at night but is the general area safe. Can't get a real sense from google maps or anything else. Renter is telling us it is safe.

I have been told about a cuise you can take from the zoo to the aquarium and I have read posting on here about it as well. I have been all over the website to get more information on purchasing tickets. Can't find anything about the cruise. Anyone know how to get the package to include the cruise (I just want the zoo, aquarium and cruise)?

I'm heading to New Orleans at the end of May on account of finding really cheap flights (200 all in CAD $) from Buffalo. I've never been so have some questions.

1. Is it safe. I will be by myself (although meeting a relative at some points)and would like to venture outside the French Quarter.

2. I'm think of staying for 4 or 5 full days - whatever time frame works out cheapest for flights - is this too many days or too little time?

3. Are there any good tours - some options I've seen are the katrina tours, swamp/bayou and plantation tours. Any recommended tour companies?

4. Where is the best and safest place to stay - French Quarter, CBD or Downtown

5. I'm looking for budget accomodation. Any thoughts or recommendations? How is Priceline or Hotwire for New Orleans?

6. Any food/restaurant/jazz club recommendations?

7. Shopping options?

8. Other must-see sights or things to do?
