Gary Quick Visit to Gary Indiana - Recommendations
Posted: Mon December 11, 2006 08:49 PM UTC
Later this month we are planning to spend a day or so (plus one evening) in the Gary, IN area on our way East. We considered stopping in Chicago but with the traffic and the expense it's just too much. So we decided to go a bit off the beaten track and do something "different". I read it's an older city so I imagine they could use the tourist dollars. We'd love to hear about any recommended hotels plus your favorite local destinations - entertainment, eating spots, museums, places to stroll etc. Am having surprising difficulty locating this information from the usual sources. And I already know all about the weather this time of year - it's OK since we're from Minnesota!! Finally I read some of the warnings about gas stations in the area so we'll definitely plan to fill up before arriving. Very weird! Thanks in advance to all for any suggestions for a quick visit!

Hello!

I am writing my family history and have some questions for
you on Gary history ect.

First, I was born 1959 in East Gary also on 738 Delaware street to Sidney(Zygmunt) Slominski.
My dad Sidney and his father Ignatius Slominski(wife Beatrice Ciesielski Slominski) came to Gary in 1925 from near Pittsburg Pa. Ignatius immigrated from Posen Poland in 1904.

My dad was born in 1915 and 10 when they came to Gary. I believe he attended up to grade 8 at Emerson. My dad worked at Carnegie Steel-National Tube from 1936-1963 when he died. Grandpa also
worked as Annealer at US Steel from 1925-1945). My dad's sibs names were Wanda, Jessie, Lorretta,
and Ted(born 1920). I know Ted graduated from Emerson high school. Sidney was in WW2 and his name on WW2 vets East Side honor roll memorial in Buffington park near where I was born.

My grandparents/father attended St. Hedwigs church in Gary and belonged to the #337 Holy Trinity society.

If you are still on-line and receive this message, I'd like to correspond!

Sincerely,
Jerry Slominski
Papillion, Nebraska
