Chicago Local recommended restaurants & Highlights
Posted: Tue June 9, 2009 01:13 AM UTC
Hi
I'm going to Chicago for my first time this weekend. Have couple questions:
Can anyone suggest me good, local restaurants? I want try to stay away from any touristic rest.
And... any suggestions on activities or places that I MUST see. Anything, that make me say " I can't leave without seeing or doing this", besides Art Museum Millenium Park, John Hanckok and Navy Pier.
thank you

Chicago Chicago swimming pools
Posted: Thu June 4, 2009 04:12 PM UTC
Hi all,

I am here in Chicago for 3 months on official assignment. One of my colleagues who is with me is searching for a swimming pool because her doc has advised some therapy that involves swimming for her knee. We looked around and found a few gyms with pools but they charged quite a bit. And she is not going to use anything else in the gym apart from the pool so it does not make sense for her to pay an exorbitant fee and not use any of the other amenities. I was wondering if anybody knows about swimming pools that she can use, which are ideally not in a gym but separate. Our accommodation is in Lincoln Park and she would preferably like something close.

Thanks in advance!

Chicago Music fans
Posted: Wed June 3, 2009 04:38 AM UTC
Hi All,

I'm going to be in Chicago next weekend....wondering what the small/medium sized alternative rock bars are these days? Might want to catch a show but other than the Double Door...or Metro (not even sure if those are still around) I'm not sure which clubs to checkout for new music.

Any ideas?

Thanks much.

Chicago Civil War
Posted: Sun May 17, 2009 06:34 PM UTC
My wife and I we will go to Chicago at the beginning of August.
I am still interested in Civil War history. I know there was no battle in Chicago during the Civil War but I have some questions :
1°/ What can I see on this topic visiting the History Museum ?
2°/ Abraham Lincoln lived in Chicago : is there something to see or to visit about this famous president ?
3°/ Is there something else related with Civil War in Chicago ?

Chicago An afternoon in Chicago - what to do
Posted: Thu May 7, 2009 01:39 AM UTC
I'm coming into Chicago for a couple of days to visit friends as well as attend a hockey game before moving on to the next destination. I have a few hours after my arrival before meeting up with some friends, and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what I can do. I have been to the usual Millennium Park, Magnificent Mile already so looking for something new. If anything, I don't just walking the mile again and finding a book store to just sit down and read a book.

Chicago 1 week in and around Chicago and the surrounding area. Advice please !
Posted: Fri May 1, 2009 04:12 PM UTC
Hello, for August vacations we will be spending approx 1 week in and around Chicago and the surrounding area. We will have a hire-car, could conceivably stop 2-3 nights in Chicago and maybe 2-3 nights in a couple of other places not too far away. Thing is I need help to put together a great program for the week, mixing city things to do in chicago, and places to see in the region (natural parks, historic things, whatever..). Thanks for your advice.

Chicago Parking for free over the weekend
Posted: Sun April 19, 2009 02:48 AM UTC
Hey y'all,

I plan to drive down to Chicago in June for Twins/Cubs. I plan to be in Chicago from Thursday to Sunday. I'm staying with my brothers in a nice downtown hotel that wants to charge me 45 a night for parking. I'm thinking there must be a neighborhood or area near an EL train I can park on the street...and then just take the train downtown.

Any ideas of good neighborhoods? Is this even a possibility or do I need a permit to do even that?

Thanks for any advice you can give. Sorry if I park in your neighborhood...I have a Honda, and I'll park it well :)

Let me know what you think.

Chicago First time in Chicago
Posted: Thu April 16, 2009 08:47 AM UTC
hey everyone,
Heading over to the USA and spending about 4 days in Chicago around Sept(and surrounding area). Can anyone suggest some different things to visit there. Happy to get out of the hub of the city for day trips. Also anyone got any good ideas for places to stay close to the metro area. With the dollar the way it is against ours anything relative cheap but clean would be great.
Also are the big ticketed items in Chicago worth seeing???
Thanks

Chicago Chicago World's Fair 1893
Posted: Sat April 11, 2009 09:14 PM UTC
If my memory is good, during the Chicago World's Fair of 1893, a man has built a special hotel to trap his gests in order to kill and to rob them. He had several worker teams, so nobody knew where the traps were.

Do you know the complete story ?
Does the building still exist ? What was its address ?
Is there some info about this affair at the Chicago History Museum ?

Hi, I will be in Chicago for a few days in June and I was hoping for some advice on the best places to go if you are on your own at night. I am 39 years old and I was thinking of good bars that play live music or any place that you wouldn't stand out if you were on your own. Thanks Martin p.s I am staying in streeterville.

Chicago Shopping in Chicago
Posted: Sun April 5, 2009 06:35 PM UTC
We will stay in Chicago in August 2009 and we wish to spend a day in a mall. I have noticed 2 malls :
- Chicago Premium Outlets
- Gurnee Mills home
which are rather far from Chicago but I plan to rent a car.
We are interesting in buying clothing (for us, our adult children and the grand son) and DVD records (films).
We cannot visit both malls.
1/ What is the best choice between the 2 malls ? We want also to make bargains.
2/ How long to go to the mall by car ? We will stay near Michigan avenue and Chestnut (downtown)and we foresee to be there at 10 AM and to leave at 5PM
3/ What other stores do you advice in downtown ? Is there a mall near our hotel ?

Thanks a lot for your answers.
