I will be staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for just under a week at the beginning of April. This is my first time to Hawaii- any advice on "must sees" or hints to save $$ (I hear food is pretty pricey). Thanks for any and all input.

Honolulu How safe is a hotel safe??
Posted: Fri February 8, 2008 06:29 AM UTC
I am going to be in Waikiki for a week. Would you recommend using my hotel safe for laptop computer, electronics, and cash? Would I be better off carrying cash on hand or using the hotel safe? I have read not to ever leave any valuables in my car rental...

Honolulu Good but Inexpensive Hotel Rooms?
Posted: Tue January 22, 2008 02:26 AM UTC
I'm thinking of taking my mom to Hawaii next month. Might anyone suggest some hotels that we could stay at? Basically just 2 criteria:
1. 3-star or better
2. Less than $125 per night for a 2-bed room

Thanks for any suggestions,

Honolulu HOLIDAY ACCOMMODATION NEEDED FOR ONE MONTH OVER CHRISTMAS 2007
Posted: Thu November 22, 2007 08:41 PM UTC
We are a couple who are coming to Honolulu on 18 December until 14 January to get away from London, England for an exteneded holiday. We would like to stay in good value holiday accommodation, perhaps a budget hotel or an apartment, where we can do a little cooking ourselves. We plan to relax on the beach most of the time so it would be a bonus if we could be based close to it. We would really appreciate some tips on where to stay that won't break the bank!

Thanks.

Honolulu Is it a good idea??
Posted: Wed October 31, 2007 05:22 AM UTC
Hey!
Me and my girlfriend just up and decided to buy an around the world ticket. The 1st stop is gonna be Honolulu. We do have money saved but the plan is to have a short vacation and then maybe work for a month or so. I guess my questions would be, is it wise to go there without any contacts? Is it easy to find comfortable but not too pricy accomodation for 1-2 months without a job to prove your income? And if, where would be the best place to find this? Any help would be extremly comforting and appreciated
thanks

Honolulu What is open on Thanksgiving Day?
Posted: Wed October 17, 2007 02:38 PM UTC
I will be in Honolulu one day only, on Thanksgiving day, while on a cruise. I wanted to go to the USS Arizona Memorial but its website says it's closed on Thanksgiving. Now I am concerned my self-touring will be limited by what's open and/or if tours will be avialable to contract near the cruise ship on that holiday. Any input is appreciated!

I will be working in Honolulu at the Hawaii Medical Center East for at least three months and will be living in Waikiki. I will have a car but am told the commute is about an hour. Would I be better off taking a bus back and forth? What is the commute time traveling by bus.

Honolulu Is february a good time to go to Hawaii?
Posted: Sat October 6, 2007 12:28 PM UTC
Guys, confused about going to Hawaii in february. My friends want to go in february to catch the end of the surf season. However, I and my girlfriend are not surfers (obviously we're going to have a go when we're overthere but it's not the reason for going). I have read some conflicting reports about february being the high season (busy and expensive) and the weather not being the best.

For completeness, we would like a week of beaches and then island hopping, volcanos, etc to make a 3 week holiday.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Posted: Sun August 19, 2007 10:29 AM UTC
HI Guys

My boyfriend and i have a 3.5 day stop over arriving in Honolulu. Any idea on how best to spend our time? We have never been to Hawaii and are really looking forward to it?

Also any tips on budget places to stay (backpakers is also fine but would prefer our own room, clean but not expecting any luxuries).

Thanks

Honolulu Two more, unrelated questions
Posted: Fri August 3, 2007 09:44 PM UTC
1) Is Turtle Bay Resort area open to the public? Are you allowed to walk around there and go to their beach-like in Waikiki- without being a registered guest?

2) I can't find information concerning outrigger canoe rides in Waikiki. I'm looking for the locations, price- and the opinion of those of you who have done it!

Thank you,

Honolulu Diamond Head/ Haunama Bay by bus
Posted: Fri August 3, 2007 08:58 PM UTC
My wife and I will staying at a hotel a few blocks from Waikiki Beach; and plan to use the bus for transportation.

If we start out early to hike Diamond Head, then take the bus from there to Hanuama Bay to snorkle, will we get to Hanuama too late to beat the crowds?

Or won't that even matter since we're visiting in mid- September?

Thank you,

Honolulu Golfing on Oahu
Posted: Fri August 3, 2007 03:21 PM UTC
Greetings!
My friend and I will be on Oahu for five days in early September. We have some business things, but will have several days free until early evening. I've gotten some great ideas on what to do, from posts here, but cannot find anything about golfing.

I know there are many courses, and can find their websites, and rates, etc., but they all look so beautiful it's hard to know where to choose. We will probably only get to play once, so we want to make it as memorable as possible. So, I turn to my friends at VT for advice.

Any suggested courses, or any to avoid? Are there any "hidden jewels"?
If it makes a difference, I am a complete beginner but my friend is better. We will also have to rent clubs.

Thanks for any suggestions, tips or advice!

Hi folks, I have just booked a three week holiday in Setember for my wife and myself from the UK to Oahu. We got our fare for £880 which includes car hire for 3 days, flying Belfast - London - San Francisco - Honolulu. (Was this a good fare?)
Anyway, my wife would like us to have a two day trip to Big Island. Does anyone know of a fly / drive package?
Thanks in advance.

Honolulu Traffic congestion questions - help me prepare......
Posted: Thu May 24, 2007 06:32 PM UTC
I will be traveling on business in Honolulu in Oct and early Nov for 21 days. I will be working in the community, mostly on the north side of the canal. This is my first time to Oahu, (I only know about the canal from Google Earth)

I am thinking that I would be safer to stay in a private rental away from the touristy area and Waikiki. Kaneohe or Kialua and travel in on H-3 to the various areas.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or confirmation that this would work more effieciently? Would this be better then dealing with the hotel area, and getting around the Canal?

(I am figuring it would also save time with just parking - being able to pull into a driveway and walk into my rental, as opposed to a huge parking structure and an elevator to who knows what floor....)

I hope to be able to take a few days and enjoy the island - but for now, I need some advise to guide me to a wise choice,

Thanks

Honolulu Hi, We are going as tour for school trip! Seeking some advices regarding transportation
Posted: Sun May 20, 2007 03:49 PM UTC
Hi there, thanks for your review of the transportation bus in Honolulu. It is very a useful information for me. Actually my school in Japan is having a overseas trip in December this year, and we as students have to plan the entire trip schedule. My group has chosen Honolulu as destination, so currently we're working on it but then now we are facing difficulty on the transportation planning, and seeking for some help from the expert. May I ask you more about 'visitor pass' which you mentioned in your reveiw; the exact prize of one visitor pass, the maximum travelling distance with it, and its valid period. We are going as a group say around 30 people. It might be quite a confusion question, but will appreciate for your advice! Thanks alot in advance.

Honolulu What is the best way to see all the Hawaii Islands? Can't drive : (
Posted: Sat May 12, 2007 08:27 AM UTC
Hello All

I am planning a 8-day holiday in Hawaii. We are planning to see Oahu, Kauai, Maui and the Big Island. My initial plan is to stay in Honolulu(Oahu), then take day tours to other islands. Since we are only 2 women and can't drive, I thought this is the best option.

Could you advice me if my thoughts make sense? Should we stay on other islands as well?

Do we have to take those day tours for Kauai and Maui? I know we can travel there by ferry or flight. But not sure if we can explore them on foot by ourselves? Or can we find tour groups once we arrive in Kauai and Maui?

Many thanks

Sally
