Savannah What is Savannah like in October?
Posted: Mon September 15, 2008 03:51 AM UTC
I'm thinking about planning a short getaway to Savannah with my husband to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. I've heard wonderful things about Savannah, and things about an island beach with seashells and such. Just wondering if mid to late October is still beachy kinda weather and if you can recommend anything about where to stay, what to do, where to go, where to eat, etc.

Thanks! :)

Savannah Savannah or Charleston?
Posted: Sun August 10, 2008 08:32 PM UTC
My wife and I are taking a driving trip through the southern US and we can stay either in Charleston or Savannah, or anywhere in between. From what I've been reading Savannah sounds dangerous? Any advice or recommendations are welcome...

Hi,
I am planning to take the train from Jacksonville, FL to Savannah. Does anyone know of a B&B in a safe location that would be good for a woman alone to stay at? I am hoping to find a place that may pick me up at the train station as well. Any other tidbits of info. in re/to where a woman alone in Savannah should go/not go would be appreciated. I will be there for 2 nights. Thank you!

Savannah savannah book project
Posted: Sat May 31, 2008 01:41 PM UTC
I'm working on releasing a coffee table book on Savannah by mid or the end 2009 through National Geographic Books. I've finished the first portion of the photos, but will be returning to take more in the near future. This time around I want to concentrate on the food, people, possibly the industries of fishing and handcrafts and back roads. This isn't going to be a tourist guide, but a book about Savannah's since of place. I would love to hear your thoughts on this project, but I can't give too much information away. I'm always interested in hearing stories and getting input on new ideas to include in book. I'm also happy to give credit in the acknowledgments to the stories and ideas that I use. Some of the photos are posted on my website under travel at www.johnstonphotos.org. I look forward to hearing from you and your ideas.

Savannah pointer dog in a city square
Posted: Sun May 25, 2008 01:58 AM UTC
We were recently in Savannah and took one of the tours. The guide pointed out a "dog" on point as we drove past a square. Half of our party thinks the dog was real, the other half thinks it was a statue. If it is a statue can anyone confirm that and tell me in which square it is located. A lunch out is riding on the info. Thanks.

Savannah Is this a good location? Near a bad area?
Posted: Sat March 1, 2008 03:24 AM UTC
Is this a good central location to stay?
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=148+Whitaker+St,+Savannah,+GA+31401&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=28.749334,59.765625&ie=UTF8&ll=32.079084,-81.093714&spn=0.007491,0.014591&z=16&iwloc=addr

I've been reading up on the "bad" areas of Savannah - and though this is right in the District, one of the bed areas seems to be nearby - at West Oglethorpe (just west of MLK Jr. Blvd? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Savannah Which location is ideal? Can you look at this map?
Posted: Thu February 28, 2008 10:39 PM UTC
We found a few private homes to stay at in different locations. Can you look at the locations and let me know what you think is the better? We want to be able to walk to everything!

Please tell me if you think certain locations are too far south, too far north, too far east or just perfect. I am interested to know if the places around the park are too far south and whether staying on River or Broughton is too far north. Thanks!

Savannah Need help deciding on location to rent a vacation home
Posted: Thu February 28, 2008 05:47 PM UTC
Hi Everyone!

There are 4 of us traveling to Savannah for a long weekend and I was hoping you could answer a couple of questions for us?

First, we are deciding between 4th of July weekend and Columbus Day weekend in October. Do you have any suggestions as to which would be more pleasant, weather and crowd wise?

Second, we are planning on renting a private home/condo for our stay. We know that downtown is basically bordered by the Park on the South, the River on the North, Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. on the West and East Broad St on the East. Those boundaries seem to be about a mile in each direction, such that staying anywhere in between the boundaries is pretty ideal and convenient for access to the park, River St, Boughton St., restaurants and major attractions.

That being said, is there an area within the 1 mile district that is MORE ideal? Some are right at the Park area, either slightly southeast or southwest of the park, some are directly on Boughton Street (loft like condos), others are smack dab in the middle and others are further north near or on River Street.

Our preferences are super flexible, but we would 100% like to be near and convenient to everything. We like everything, from off the beaten path (BUT still close to everything (walking)) OR in the middle of all the action!

What do you think? Looking for an insiders opinion.

Hope you can help us out. Thanks so much!

Savannah Cab Fare
Posted: Sun August 26, 2007 11:08 PM UTC
Hello. My fiance and I will be going to Savannah the end of September for our honeymoon. Just curious about how are the taxi services are priced priced. I've heard it's not a good idea to drive through Savannah due to narrow roads and car break-ins, so about how much would it cost us to say, get a ride down from Hilton Head? Or even Pooler or Garden City??

Any other direct advice for Savannah in Fall would be much appreciated.

Savannah Savannah- B&B recommendation needed
Posted: Sat July 21, 2007 12:39 PM UTC
I will be traveling to Savannah in August with my 7 yr old daughter. We would like to stay at a B&B. I have been doing some research and know that some do allow children. So far, we have found the Hamilton Turner Inn, Savannah B&B, Azalea Inn.

I would like to stay somewhere that is fairly centrally located within the historic district, so it is easy to walk to the must sees. Under $200 or close to it per night would be great.

Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Savannah Overnight parking/sleeping on the beach!
Posted: Thu April 26, 2007 02:01 PM UTC
Is there anywhere close to Savannah that you can get away with sleeping on the beach? Tybee Island? Or any campsites closer to the ocean than to the city? We want to check out both city and bech but sleeping near the beach is our preference (I'm with a girl from Iowa who's never seen the Atlantic!)

Savannah Savannah ???
Posted: Wed March 21, 2007 12:56 PM UTC
We are traveling from the UK to Atlanta in April for a family wedding and have 5 days after to travel and see some sights. We will have a 3 year old and a baby with us. We were thinking of driving down to Savannah, with an over night stop near Augusta.

Any advice, kid friendly places to visit or eat would be appreciated. We are on a tight budget and I am using loyalty points to stay at Holiday Inns where possible.

Or would you go somewhere else, Charleston?

Savannah Best Western on Gateway

My mom and I are traveling to Savannah for Mother's Day. We are staying at the Best Western on Gateway Blvd. It was very economical. We plan to do the Paula Deen tour and several other things. Please inform me of this motel. I do not mind driving to locations but I do not want to be on a bad part of town.
Thanks.

Savannah who is watching the store....?
Posted: Sun February 25, 2007 12:36 PM UTC
Is there a "custodian" of the SAVANNAH, GEORGIA, USA Travel Guides?
If so, how do I contact them?

reason I am asking is that I went to look through the Savannah, GA "things to do" and found like 200 entries. so i went "ooooooohhhhhhmmmmmm" and relaxed and paged through them. some (few) were informative; some (too many) were "out of the guidebook" descriptions of each of the 21 Squares in Savannah (this is info i can get from the savannah.com website); some (irritatingly) were nothing more than numbered pictures with no comment or a comment of "no comment"; AND they are not layed out in any structure, just hodge-podge with many repeats of exactly the same info.

when i am looking for things to do in a new city; i come here to find out what YOU did and why it was fun to do. i can find stock info from brochures on any website; i don't need to waste time getting it here too.

can someone cleanup the Savannah mess?

(i now get off my soapbox.... i only rented it for a half-hour).
