6 hour layover Posted: Wed October 7, 2009 06:10 AM UTC
We will have a 6 hour layover in Atlanta. We get in about 6 AM on a Saturday. Is there a really nice or fun place to go and have breakfast - and maybe do something else and still get back to the airport in time? 3 adults traveling together - no kids. Thanks in advance for ANY suggestions on how to spend our time!

stay near Atlanta Posted: Mon September 21, 2009 08:46 PM UTC
Hello. We are 2 couples who will be attending a conference the end of may 2010 in Atlanta at the convention center. Since we are from different parts of the country, we would like to arrive a few days early and wondered if anyone has suggestions of someplace to stay near Atlanta--we will rent a car. We are not interested in typical sight seeing as we will do some of that during the conference. Looking more for a cabin perhaps or "resort" type place that has lovely scenery. Like to walk and enjoy time together. Budget is about $150/couple for lodging. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Buckhead Posted: Wed July 15, 2009 12:21 AM UTC
I was in Atlanta about five years ago and loved the nightlife in the Buckhead area. I friend of mine is their right now (7-14-09) and is claiming most of the bars have been closed. Is he in the wrong spot or has it changed?

driving through Atlanta! Posted: Tue July 14, 2009 06:26 PM UTC
I plan to drive THROUGH (not stopping) Atlanta in August. I really do not want to adjust my schedule too much but just HOW BAD is the traffic now at 4:30 or 5:30 PM on a Monday? Several years ago I drove through Atlanta after 6:00 PM and it was fine. If I will be sitting in a stopped car for an hour maybe I should get up extra early.

More questions on the Georgia aquarium. Posted: Sat April 18, 2009 07:26 AM UTC
Our family will be going to Atlanta in September for a mini-vacation:) So I've started to plan our trip...as when I go somewhere I have to be a total tourist!! I would like to take in the Georgia aquarium while we're there. We are looking at going on a Thursday of Friday, if that matters. Anyway I was wondering about how much time should we allow for the aquarium? I realize this varies from person to person but am looking for a ballpark guess so we can plan accordingly. According to their website they will be open from 10am-5pm. Would it take from opening to close to see it all or could we do it in 3-4 hours? We are looking at getting a package deal on the aquarium and some other attractions. Hubby really wants to see the Titantic exhibit(we'll be there about a week before it's scheduled to close) but the package we're looking at only includes general admission...would we be able to upgrade? Also any idea if they have any patches/badges for scouts to earn/purchase while we're there? My daughter is in girl scouts and it would be neat for her to be able to earn something on vacation. Also would it be easy to manuever a stroller around the aquarium? Would we also be able to fit in the world of coca-cola or should we save that for another day? Sorry for so many questions and thanks in advance for any help/advice you can offer!!

I have a 4 hour layover in Atlanta in the next couple weeks. How can I take in the aquarium in the most efficient manner? Do I take a taxi from the airport directly there? How much is the taxi?....and how easy is it to get a taxi back?? Any thoughts appreciated!!! Bill

Supermarkets near MARTA rail lines? Posted: Fri November 7, 2008 07:29 AM UTC
I am staying near the airport. Is there a supermarket near there? If not, is there a supermarket near a MARTA rail station, preferably one near downtown. Supermarkets are usually not in downtown so maybe something a little north of it? Also a nicer supermarket is preferred over one that is old and dirty or in a high crime rate neighborhood.

International Arrival - Domestic Departure Posted: Mon September 29, 2008 10:30 PM UTC
Hi Atlanta VT'ers!
I travel in November from Manchester UK to Tucson via Atlanta on Delta with 2.5 hours change time late pm on a Sunday returning with just a 1 hour changeover on a Monday afternoon.
Currently the Airport website is showing arrival in terminal E and departure from terminal B for my inward bound flights and A and E for my return home.
From past experience I expect I will need to clear customs/immigration, collect luggage and then recheck it for onward flight to Tucson but on my return my luggage should go straight through?
As this time I travelling alone I will not have anyone to lean on so really want to get the details really clear in my head before I travel so would appreciate any tips/directions you can give me. What to expect, general directions etc. Feel free to spell out what might be the simplest and most obvious, I'm happy to take it to the nth degree!

All Day Metro Cards Posted: Thu September 18, 2008 02:52 PM UTC
I will be going to Atlanta the end of October and wanted to know if they have all day passes (or anything like 3/5 day) passes on their subway.
I also wanted to know what the sales tax is in Georgia. Is the sales tax different on wearables than it is on other items?
Thanks for the info.

Long layover on a Sunday afternoon Posted: Tue September 2, 2008 09:25 AM UTC
Looks like I might have a long layover on one of my upcoming trips through Atlanta. For the time between flights, can anyone recommend something out of the airport? I'd prefer to see something other than the airport lounges and stretch my legs a bit.
I arrive at 2pm on a Sunday and depart again 7pm.
I'd be relying on public transit.
If there are no recommendations, I'd be up for meeting anyone for happy hour.

Hi! I'm going back to Atlanta for a month August 23, after 13 years! Has much changed and are there any VT meets I could attend? I'll be staying in Emory area, near the CDC which I'll be visiting (the purpose of my visit, actually!).
Cheers! :-)

Refresh my memory.. Posted: Mon June 2, 2008 01:47 AM UTC
My step son plays Prof Baseball and we used to make several trips to Atl.. but he moved to American League and so haven't been in a few years..
As my husband takes off to Pittsburgh to watch him with the guys..I'm in the mood for Baseball so I'm driving to Atl for the weekend in about two weeks. I've booked a room at Westin..I think that's where we stayed before.. and I remember the cab ride was only like 6 or 7.00 to the field.. Also..we didn't venture out of the "baseball realm" while there with the team.. Can anyone tell me what would be close to Westin..such as places to eat/shop??? I get my cities confused during baseball season and they kind of all run together..I remember a nice mall but it was quite a drive away..I'm looking for some places close since I'll be by myself..don't want to wander out too far..

first time traveler Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 01:19 PM UTC
My nephew is traveling alone for the first time, and he will be transfering in Atlanta to continue on to Portland, Or. My question is, if someone out there can help me, is where do we find on the web if possible, what gate he will be coming into and what gate he will be departing from. Also, what the terminal layout is so he will know where he is going and how long he has to get to his next gate. I wish it would be as simple as coming in one gate and leaving out the in the neighboring gate, but as one who has traveled a few times, I know that is not the way it will be. Can someone please help us make this journey for him easier? Thankyou

Rental Cars in Atlanta Posted: Fri April 11, 2008 09:14 PM UTC
Hi all!
I'm headed down to Atlanta for a wedding in July. I'm flying into ATL, and will need to rent a car for a couple days. Rental costs at the airport are close to double what I've found at non-airport car places...but I'm not sure how I'd get there.
Are there any rental car companies accessible by MARTA that aren't aiport locales? I'm going to be hit with the under-25 fees as it is, so if I can save $30/day renting a few miles away, that would be really nice.
Thanks so much!

Atlanta Airport Transfer time Posted: Fri March 21, 2008 01:48 AM UTC
Hello,
I'll be flying through Atlanta on my way to and from Europe. On the way home from Italy to the US, I have a choice of either a 2 hour layover or a 4 hour layover in Atlanta. Could someone with experience flying through Atlanta advise me which might be preferable? I'll need to collect my bag, go through immigration & customs (I'm a US citizen, if that makes any difference timewise), recheck bag, and go the the gate to catch my connecting flight. Is 2 hours enough, or would 4 be better?
Thank you

Need Hotel Suggestions Posted: Tue March 18, 2008 06:26 AM UTC
Hi,
We're traveling to Atlanta to visit the Georgia Aquarium and Stone Mountain. We would like to find a hotel that is at the mid point to both of these locations. Ideally we would like something in the way of a suite since we are a family of four traveling together. Any suggestions would be great.
Also does anyone know how what area of Atlanta Buford Hwy is in? Thanks much!

Georgia Aquarium Posted: Tue February 19, 2008 02:18 AM UTC
Hello everyone,
I'm planning to be in Atlanta downtown (aquarium) this Friday. I'll be driving from Knoxville, TN and will get there around 1pm. My questions are:
1. Should I park downtown or should I park at one of the Marta's stations and just take subway? If I'll take Marta, which station should I park at and how would I get there? I'll be driving to Douglousville after seeing Aquarium.
2.Could anyone recommend good places, within walking distance from Aquarium, for lunch and dinner?
3. How safe is Atlanta's downtown for a young woman?
Thank you
