Moving May 27th

I was wondering if anyone could give me any input on what it is like in Palm Bay/Melbourne area. I am moving May 27th 2006 with my girlfriend to Palm Bay. The reason we are moving is because my girlfriends parents currently live there and she wants to be closer to them. Anyways my girlfriend is 22 and I am 24 years old. We are looking for bars and clubs that would be more towards our age group. Is melbourne/palm bay a dead town at night? How safe is it around there. Would you be safe walking alone by yourself? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
