1. can you please point me to some web locations for day tours - looking for one that goes to key west but also interested in others. going on a cruise but will be spending a few days before & after touring Miami
2. considering the howard johnson dezerland on Collins - can anyone tell me what types of things are close to this hotel? any comments on the hotel? etc
3. hotel recommendations - no lower than a 2.5* and around the $100 night price range
3. is there anything like a hop on/off shuttle to tour Miami

Posted: Thu July 10, 2008 12:31 AM UTC
I will be returning back from an international flight to Miami and noticed I have a 5 hour layover. Will I have any time to see anything in Miami after coming out of customs? Also if it possible what is recommended in that short a time. I would like to get a general layout of the city.

Thanks for any help :)

Miami First time to Miami- few questions.
Posted: Tue July 1, 2008 08:04 PM UTC
Hi all,

This will be my first time traveling to Miami, fl. I am looking for idea's for a good hotel to stay at for me and my girlfiend for our first holiday trip together. One concern I have is the noise level. I love to party but I also love to sleep. I want to be close to the action so im thinking of staying on ocean dr or colony so I can walk to the beach or resturants.

Low cost around mid $500's-600s a person booking through expedia fight and hotel from Aug 29th-Sept 2nd.

I have seen these rates for Colony Hotel and Beacon. Both look great from what I can see and our rated decently. Any comments.

Thanks!!!!

Miami miami airport passport security
Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 02:52 PM UTC
We landed from Europe and arriving home thought it would be easy to enter our country since we have lived here our entire lives. Not so fast. Passport lines were the slowest we have ever experienced and it took over an hour to get through passport and by the time we got to our luggage our bags were pulled off the belt with many others and just left sitting on the floor. The it took another 15 minutes to exit.
What is going on. Please don,t tell us the obvious about tight US security. We are not visitors or strangers arriving.
Example we landed in Rome with 45 minutes to clear passport control and go thought security with our carry ons and still made the connecting flight.
Is this something new or is the system just broken in our great country?
It certainly ruins a long trip-We are all for security but not when dealing with citizens returning as all they have to do is verify it is us..
My daughter and 10 year old had a similar experience in Atlanta where they had a two hour connection time and called from the plane as they barely made it after passport control and re-checking bags-
Any thoughts as to why???

Miami August Vacation
Posted: Tue June 17, 2008 06:39 PM UTC
Brit family looking to visit Miami in Aug for a week with family (girls 17 and 11). Would appreciate some advice on the following.

Q1. Am I being uterly stupid about spending days at the beach. (heat wise)

Q2. Likely to ditch hire car as soon as we come into Miami from the Keys, as I'm thinking it would less hassle to taxi it around. Probably only need 1 day retail therapy and 1 day on a bus tour.

Many Thanks in advance

Miami Miami Beach International Travellers Hostel
Posted: Sat March 22, 2008 01:10 AM UTC
Has anyone stayed in the Miami Beach International Travellers Hostel? I've been doing my homework and it looks like the best value for a private room with en-suite. The reviews of most SoBe hotels and hostels seem very mixed so I'm not expecting the Ritz. Clay Hotel and Hostel looked better but doesn't have anything in the cheaper bracket available.

Any comments?

Miami First time in Miami
Posted: Sat February 23, 2008 06:27 AM UTC
Hello,
I will be traveling to Miami soon and have been reading posts about unsafe areas in Miami. I will be renting a car from out of state. Can anyone please tell me what specific parts of Miami are unsafe to be in? Is downtown safe to walk around in during the day? It just seems that, based on the posts, Miami is not safe unless you are on the beach. I was thinking about going to the zoo, but do you have to drive through unsafe parts of Miami to get there? Are there specific streets to avoid, for example in Philly, you avoid Allegheny Ave and Kensington Ave and North Philly? Thanks for all of your help.

Miami Luggage Storage in Miami (c9 hours)
Posted: Tue February 19, 2008 09:24 PM UTC
Hi

We'll be disembarking our ship fairly early in the morning but our flight is at nearly ten in the evening.

We would like to store our luggage somewhere and sightsee. Any ideas anyone?

Incidentally, we have stored luggage at the airport before and gone to the Blue Dolphin Mall, but don't really want to do this again.

Our luggage won't fit into a hire car's trunk.

The Miami Visitor's Centre has not responded to my emailed question and the port and the ship say 'no' on security grounds!

We contacted a couple of hotels but they say they are unable to help too.

See, I have tried!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Regards

Miami Longterm parking at Miami Internation Airpot
Posted: Sun February 17, 2008 02:56 AM UTC
I have to either rent a car and drive to Miamia International Airport for my flight and rent a car for my return trip home to Palm City. Rental runs around $140 plus gas for both directions total. Or my other option is to drive my own car and park at a long term parking lot. I do not need to spend the night at a hotel. Does anyone know of a good place to park. Any travel agent special rates available? Renting a car both ways versus parking my own car. Two week cruise. Drive is 3 1/2 hours both ways.

Miami Has anyone tried to stay in Miami Airport for overnight?
Posted: Sun December 30, 2007 12:41 AM UTC
My boyfriend and I are arriving MIA at around 8pm and catching a cruise the next morning. We are on a tight budget, so I am thinking maybe we should stay at the airport overnight. Has anyone done it before? Is there any shopping mall or restaurant around the airport (without taking a cap or accessible by public transit).
Is there anything to do at the airport that would kill my time at night?
Thanks very much.

Miami Re: 3 month visit...
Posted: Fri December 28, 2007 01:32 PM UTC
Dear All,

I am looking to come over to Miami for 3 months to work and live.
Can anyone recommend inexpensive hotels/hostels, or i would prefer to share with someone for three months, and would be grateful if anyone could forward any flatshare websites.

Working... Not looking for anything professional, just a job to cover a few bills etc.. Will that be a problem for a UK citizen..?

Thanks to you all..!
