Smoking in Bars? Posted: Thu December 28, 2006 08:09 PM UTC
I've just moved here and was wondering if there are any bars, clubs, taverns, etc. that allow smoking? Either in Jacksonville or St. Augustine?
Thank you!

Jacksonville at Christmas time with a 5yo Posted: Sun December 17, 2006 11:40 PM UTC
My husband and I are spending 2 days in Jacksonville with my 5yo niece on Dec 22 and 23rd. Can anyone suggest some activities besides the zoo for this time of year that she would enjoy as much as we would? We've only got a day and a half with her and really want to make the most of it. Most of the recommended kids activities we've seen are seasonal for spring/summer. We're staying at a hotel but we will have a car.

flights Posted: Mon October 16, 2006 06:24 PM UTC
If anybody can help me in this one I would appreciate it.
I am a bit confused about flights to JAX from London, some flights they offer one stop or two; via Chicago,Washington etc.. All this is fine but what I do not understand is when it comes to changing planes/terminals, do I need to check out and transfer to another terminal or is it a matter of finding my way to the next terminal???
Pleae excuse my ignorance since I have never been to the USA and I always use direct flights to any destination.
Thank you in advance.

Entertainment Jobs and Nightlife Posted: Mon May 22, 2006 03:38 AM UTC
Ok guys I got a tough decision to make-
Basically I am a recently single 28 year old who is looking to get out of boring and cold Maine and go to a place that has more to do, is warmer, and that has job oppurtunities that could lead me to a profitable career. Other important factors include friendly people who are easy to meet since I would need some new friends. Of course since I am enjoying the twilight of my youth and now newly single...nightlife and entertainment as well as the singles scene is important as well. So to make a long story short I have carefully studied and narrowed things down to Austin Texas, Phoenix Arizona, or Jacksonville Florida. I decided on Jacksonville because I have always wanted to live in Florida but the job opportunity and Hurricane risk has kept me away...as I understand it...neither of those are a big factor in Jacksonville. SOOOOOOOOO I was hoping you guys could help me with the following questions:
1) Is there the Florida night life environment here in Jacksonville with dance clubs and techno and rap and plenty of nice friendly females in their 20's running around trying to get some attention?
2) Is it true that it is only the city that has night life and that Jacksonville beach is merely a day getaway which is 45 minutes from the city?
3) If a Business major from Maine with food, customer service, phone, and sales experience were to move to Jacksonville what would his chances be of being able to make it? How bout if he wanted to be a writer and a bartender on the side?
Basically I am looking for a new place to call home that is good for a 28 year old guy who needs a social life in a "fun" area....and a career.

English girl probably out of her depth!! Posted: Sun March 12, 2006 10:05 PM UTC
Hello everyone,
This is a mamouth amount of advice I am requiring and I would be so grateful if someone could help me. My partner and I have a little girl (under 2) we run a good small business repairing laptops/notebooks. We are considering moving over to Jacksonville (hopefully for a better life for our daughter) Please could anyone advise me which neighbourhoods are regarded as "nice areas" with good schools. If anyone could recommend a better place than Jacksonville I would be really grateful to hear any other views. I know we are probably out of our depth here and ultimately need to fly out. One last final final thing, is there a call for laptop repair services? Thank you for being patient with me, and any advice will be gratefully recieved xxxxxxxxxx

Jax(springfield or St johns) Posted: Sat January 21, 2006 06:16 PM UTC
I've heard that the Springfield area is really changing. I was looking at buying in the St Johns area to buy specifically a little east of Julington Creek. Is moving to the Springfield/Riverside areas better? Travel is not a problem as my husband works from home. That area in St Johns is growing, but I'd like to know a little more about Springfield/Riverside/Avondale areas more. Please help. Also we have kids.

What's a good neighborhood in Jax? Posted: Wed January 4, 2006 04:03 AM UTC
I'm moving to Jacksonville shortly and while i'm there i'll be attending UNF. I want to know what areas are ok and safe to live in being a single female and also not too expensive. Don't mind a little commute as long as it's not an hour or something like that. I've heard that the southside is the best is that true?

Moving to Jax - Question about "neighborhoods" etc Posted: Tue March 8, 2005 08:33 PM UTC
I'm moving from Cleveland to Jacksonville near the end of March. I'll be working in the area around the movie theater called "Tinseltown".
Can anyone give me any useful info on the area and what "neighborhoods" I should look into living in?
I'd like to live close to where I work, so I have been looking at places in both the Arlington and Southside areas......does this put me close to my work?
Are these areas ok?
Are there any other areas I should possibly look into?
Thanks in advance for all those that can provide some insight.

Jacksonville Elementary Schools Posted: Sat February 12, 2005 10:22 PM UTC
I will be relocating to Jacksonville in the summer and would appreciate any information anyone has about elementary schools in the area, particularly private schools. My son will be entering kindergarten and I really want him to be in a school with small class sizes, individualized instruction, and excellent teachers. Which are the best? Also - has anyone heard of St. John's Country Day School in Orange Park? If so, how is it? How about Orange Park Elementary? Any advice will be helpful!

I will be in Jacksonville the weekend of June 19 and I desparately need some help on choosing my hotel. I have it narrowed down to the Sea Turtle on Atlantic Beach, or the Amelia Hotel & Suites on Amelia Island.
I want a nice, clean place that isn't really crowded but has *something* to do nearby. My 2 sons will be traveling with me, and we want to stay someplace safe. Any recommendations would be appreciated!!! Thanks in advance. :)

JTB History? Posted: Thu May 27, 2004 04:55 AM UTC
I'm moving up to Jacksonville to attend UNF later this month. Aside form finding a job, which is proving to be extra difficult, I'd like to know if there is any history or story behind J. Turner Butler Boulevard. I'm the type to do alot of reseaech before I as, and nothing has come up. Was there a J. Turner Butler? What did he do? What does the J stand for? My boyfriend, who has lived in Jacksonville for his whole life (20 years) didn't even know. I'm quite curious about this; hopefully some of you can answer some questions.

Moving to Jacksonville Posted: Tue March 30, 2004 02:46 AM UTC
Im a college student currently living in Detroit. I am thinking about moving to Jacksonville but find it really hard to judge a good location. I spent a couple of years living in Myrtle beach and know that traffic in these vacation destinations can get rediculus so I would like to be in a place that is as central as possible to the places that I will cummute to the most like downtown, UNF and the Beach. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion as to what neighborhoods would suit the needs of a person like me. Im not rich, but I certianly do not want to live in the ghetto. And realisticly, how long would it take to get from downtown to the beach?
