So many questions.. transport/location/getting to Vegas etc Posted: Wed June 6, 2007 09:51 PM UTC
Hi everyone..
Tahoe looks lovely and I wanna go (it will be late August).. but I need some help ;)
First of all - can I visit without a car? I know there is a trolley that goes around so it seems like public transport is OK. (I am from England and not confident enough to drive).
Secondly - where should I stay? I'm not even sure what town to visit but here's what I'm looking for:
- I'm not into skiing even if there was snow that time of year
- I love beautiful scenery
- Not really much of a gambler, plus I'm happy to walk/ride a bus to those gambling places if need be
- I'd like to try some lake activities like water skiing, or swimming
- Not into the party lifestyle.. some quiet and serene would be perfect
I'd be coming from San Francisco - how can I get there? I think there is a greyhound bus that goes to Truckee, but if I decide not to stay in Truckee, how far away are the other towns?
Finally.. I've seen a map with 2 airports on it: Tahoe and Reno. Tahoe is not on any of the website's I've looked at, so I'm guessing its either closed or the map maker was mistaken. So.. how do I get from Truckee to Reno? How long would that take? Is Reno the best airport to go to, to get to Las Vegas (my next destination?)
Thank you for your time.. I realise its a tonne of questions and I really appreciate it!

Need recommendation for South Tahoe vacation rental service Posted: Sat May 19, 2007 04:29 PM UTC
Can anyone recommend a south Tahoe vacation rental service? I need to find a condo/house for about a week in late July - 2+ bedrooms, with a living room/dining area that can handle 8+ people. I'm trying to plan a memorial get-together for my father who recently passed away, and I want a place where close relatives can come by afterwards and share meals. I like the Keys area, but I need to consider price... Thanks for any help you can offer!

Lake Tahoe July 4 Posted: Thu May 3, 2007 04:52 PM UTC
My husband and I are planning our first empty nest vacation. We are going to Lake Tahoe/Reno, June 30-July 6. I need some advice on things to do and the best place to stay the two nights we are in Reno. Also, if anyone knows of July 4, celebrations. We love to do outdoor stuff...and I love to shop! Any suggestions would be greatly apprecaited. Thanks a million!

Tahoe --- Sunday or Weekday Posted: Fri March 9, 2007 02:17 PM UTC
I am curious if there are parts around the lake or towns near Tahoe that are closed on Sunday.
I am doing research, but thought I would ask here too. WE are staying in South Lake Tahoe, but we will be taking a trip to Truckee and going around the lake. Trying to decide if there is a better day to do this...Sunday March 18th or Monday or Tuesday??
Thanks for any suggestions.

Pennsylvania family planning a West Coast Trip Posted: Tue March 6, 2007 02:31 PM UTC
I know it may be a late start but I am trying to plan a trip to your part of our country. I am thinking about Late July 2007. I saw that it is only about 3 hours drive accross the state from San Francisco to Tahoe which we want to see. It wold be a memory to see the Golden Gate Bridge. We are a family of 6, two teen girls and two 5 yr old boys (both adopted sons from Africa).
We like National Parks and must see sights type of things. We will rent a van and don't mind driving a lot to cover a lot of area and schedule our nights hotels to accommodate seeing different things instead of staying in one place.
If we want to see San Francisco and Lake Tahoe, what airport would you fly into? Any rough ideas of itinerary for a Saturday to Saturday trip? I see Sacramento is in between SF and Tahoe. Is there good things to do and see there? from all the posts here it sounds like there is a lot to see
I appreciate any ideas and do value everyones comments and thank you in advance for your time.

Restaurants for a bachelor party Posted: Mon February 26, 2007 06:26 AM UTC
Can you recommend any restaurants in S. Lake Tahoe for a 12-person bachelor party? Good food with good entertainment? Anything similar to Vegas' "Rum Jungle"?

help on where to stay in S.Lake Tahoe! family vacation in March Posted: Thu February 8, 2007 05:07 PM UTC
I just booked our airfare to Lake Tahoe for mid March. Can anyone tell me a good casino/hotel to stay? The kids and I want to ski at Heavenly and husband wants to gamble. Is there anywhere to stay that is close to the gondola? Will these hotels have snow at this time? My youngest son has never seen snow, so he is wanting snow! What kind of activities are there to do for kids besides snow skiing? Thanks, and help will be appreciated!

Getting Married in April '08 - Need some advice!!! Posted: Tue February 6, 2007 06:22 PM UTC
I am getting married in April 2008 and need some advice on lodging and a location for the wedding.
First of all, we went on our first trip to Tahoe in December 2006. We stayed at the Embassy Suites. It was a nice hotel, but for our wedding we want to stay somewhere different - like maybe a romantic cabin or resort-type place. Can anyone recommend a place to stay? Also, which is better, North Tahoe or South Tahoe? We stayed in South Tahoe for our trip and didn't venture to the northside - although I hear North Tahoe is trendier/more expensive.
We want an outside wedding, lake-front along the beach, but very informal. I want to wear a nice dress but probably will be barefoot! My fiance is very much on the informal side, he will probably not wear a tux. We will only have the ceremony in Tahoe with close family members - the actual reception will be here at home in Dallas when we get back.
I read somewhere of a company that offers carriage rides to/from the ceremony location. Would anyone recommend this? I thought it sounded like a nice romantic touch. Also we want to do a couples spa while we are there. Can anyone recommend a nice spa?
Sorry for all the questions, but I want my wedding to be perfect!
Thanks in advance for the replies!

Lake Tahoe in Mid April Posted: Fri February 2, 2007 07:05 PM UTC
I am just trying to figure out what I should plan for to do in lake tahoe around the middle of April. I have never been out there and I am not even sure where to start! I really like all outdoor activities, I just just don't know the best things to do that time of the year in that area...Too warm for skiing? Too cold for golfing??

driving from sacramento Posted: Mon January 29, 2007 11:13 PM UTC
This is our first time to South Lake Tahoe. We are flying into Sacramento around 4pm on a Friday and driving from there. After getting the rental car and stuff, I'm guessing we won't be on the road until maybe 5 at the latest? After reading a few posts here and there, I'm getting a little concerned about our drive. 1. I heard its a scary drive, even without snow. 2. How long will the drive take on a Friday evening? Any other warnings? We also have a flight at 8:30am on the following tuesday (president's day weekend in Feb). To make sure we get there on time and count for traffic, would you suggest leaving around 4am?

Hey, im planning a trip to lake tahoe around the first weeks of february. Im watchin the weather website right now and also some webcams of the resorts and dont see much snow around, only a bit of snow by the mountains (which is probably fake snow). I would like to know when it snows the most in winter (I hope early February).

Can anyone help???? Posted: Sat December 23, 2006 05:41 PM UTC
Hi, my name's Dave and I'm in the UK. I'm supposed to be travelling to Heavenly Resort, Lake Tahoe on 26th Dec. My travel partner has pulled out of the trip and rather than not go at all, I was wondering if anyone would be willing to meet up in the evenings at all?????? I think the skiing on my own would be bearable but the nightimes would be a killer on my own!
I've really been looking forward to this trip and seems a shame to waste the holiday because of being alone in the evenings!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Dave, UK

ideas for S Lake Tahoe Posted: Fri December 8, 2006 04:14 AM UTC
My fiancé and I are traveling to South Lake Tahoe next week and I would appreciate recommendations for nice places to eat or shows to see in the area. Another option is if anyone knows of a decent service that will tell you weather conditions, restaurant listings and that sort of thing via your mobile phone since neither of us owns a laptop. We plan on mostly skiing and gambling but just in the event we want to get away from all the tourist places, it’d be nice to know where to go.

Getting Married..What to do after Posted: Wed November 15, 2006 03:12 PM UTC
Hello all...
I am getting married in South Lake Tahoe on December 23. We are having a private ceremony, just the two of us, at 1:00.
After we are "man and wife" we want to do something romantic and fun. Any suggestions? We still want to be in our formal duds too.
What would be the best thing to do? We are open for any suggestions.
Thank you very much.. Hope to hear back.
Thanks

Is mid April a good time to ski @ Heavenly? Posted: Mon November 13, 2006 04:03 PM UTC
Is there a lot of snow left? Our kids have their spring break the week of the 16th so we were thinking of heading up to do a little skiing/boarding. Is it worth it that time of year or should we bite the bullet and come up earlier?
Thanks for the help!

Emerald Bay Overlook????? Posted: Sat October 7, 2006 02:15 AM UTC
We are planning to get married at Emerald Bay Overlook in either early December or early to mid January. I have heard the roads to Emerald Bay Overlook occasionally close due to possibility of avalanches. Can you tell me what are the chances that the road to Emerald Bay Overlook will be closed in early December and what are the chances in early to mid January? Thanks for your help.
