Getting to & from Day trips to San Francisco

WE are staying in Santa Clara but have plans to go into San Francisco for 2-3 days. We will have a car available but I'm being told NOT to drive into SF. So our and options are? Drive to & park at CalTrain, BART and take it in/out? Thanks for any advise offered..

Things to do near the Marriott

Will be travelling to Santa Clara for 2 days end of March. How is the weather then? What kind of clothing would be needed?
What is there to see or do near the Marriott hotel? Is anything walkable or is a car absolutely necessary? I have heard that walking in California is just not done (ha ha). Seriously, is there anything close by to kill a day?

Anyone have info on miracle of the cross at the Mission?

I heard a story that there was a priest at the mission 200 years ago. He was seen to levitate and the
Christ on the cross was said to have come down off the cross and embraced this priest. I think his name might have been Calva or Montcalva. Something like that. Anybody ever heard this story?
