Walking in San Fran Posted: Mon January 5, 2009 02:57 AM UTC
Hi,
My daughter and I will be staying at the Fishermans Wharf area. We will be attending a trade show at the Moscone Center. It looks like a 2 mile walk or so both ways. Is it safe for 2 ladies to walk this area. The morning walk would be 9am, the night walk would be around 6pm. I need some assurance for my husband that we will be OK.
Thanks,
Belinda

SFO flight connections Posted: Tue December 30, 2008 01:28 PM UTC
I'm planning on travelling from Dublin to LAX in the Summer and was browsing through some tickets.
I can either make a connection in LHR or SFO, the only problem with SFO is that i have to recollect my baggage for customs.
I have an american passport, so that might make immigration easier.
Which route would you reccommend I take?
Is it easy connecting to another flight in SFO?
I'll be 17 at the time of travel, so I'm kinda nervous at the whole flight connecting thing!
Also. how much layover time should I leave until the SFO - LAX flight?
thanks.

Tips on what to see/do in San Fran for a single girl on a budget Posted: Mon December 29, 2008 09:38 PM UTC
Hey, I'm trying to plan a trip to San Francisco for sometime in February. Unfortunately, I'm a little out of the loop since the last time I was there I was only seven. Anyone have tips on what might be best for a newcomer to see/do, especially since I'll only have four days (Thurs-Sun)?

Non- religious Christmas Day in San Francisco? Posted: Thu December 4, 2008 01:53 AM UTC
Any suggestions for something to do on Christmas Day in San Francisco for non-observer? Would anything be open?
Also, what are some suggestions for moderate to inexpensive restaurants? It is my daughter who is visiting there, and I would love to get her some gift cards to use on her vacation.
Thanks for your help!

Super8 Lombard Street Posted: Wed November 12, 2008 10:49 PM UTC
Hello
We're planning on staying at the Super8 next week as we're joining others who will already be there before joining a cruise. We won't have a car so is this in a safe, convenient area? Are there restaurants/public transport readily available? We will be getting there by taxi from SFO as we will have a lot of luggage.
Thanks for any advice.

Bike path from Fisherman's Wharf to GGB Posted: Mon November 3, 2008 02:46 AM UTC
Hi,
My daughter and her friend plan to rent bikes in SF. The 2 bike rental spots mentioned in their tour book are on Pier 41 and Columbus St. Is there a bike path that goes from FW to GGB? It seems to be a popular thing to do in SF. I'm hoping (being a worry wart parent), that they will not have to bike along busy roads to go from FW to GGB. Our SF map shows a path of some sort. Is this a bike route? Thanks for any help.

San Francisco hotels Posted: Sat November 1, 2008 04:22 PM UTC
As a surprise for my wife's 60th birthday I'm taking her on a mystery trip to San Francisco in February where our 3 adult children will meet us. I haven't been there for many years and am not sure whether to stay in the Union Square area (JW Marriott, Grand Hyatt, Hotel Monaco, etc) or on Nob Hill(Stanford Court, Fairmont, etc). I'm not committed to these areas or hotels so any suggestions are appreciated.

San Francisco December travel Posted: Wed October 22, 2008 07:36 PM UTC
My husband, son and I will be traveling to SF in mid December for 5 days, coming in on AmTrak from Portland. We are looking for a great place to stay (around $80-150 a night, two queen beds, continental breakfast) that is around Union Square. Our bus from Amtrak station brings us into Westfield SF Centre. We plan on walking alot or taking public transportation around city, so we want to be centrally located to seeing and taking in as much as possible on our trip. If Union Square is not the best $value for lodging, what area is? We're open to any suggestions! Also, what are some tourist attractions that we don't want to miss? Thanks in advance for any help you can give these three "Train Travelers"

Tours in San Francisco Posted: Wed October 22, 2008 06:02 AM UTC
My wife and I will have an entire day to tour San Francisco on November 11 (Veteran's Day). We ae thinking of taking a 3-hour bus tour. However, we came across a company called Silver Lion private tours, where we can hire a car and guide for a minimum of 4 hours. That sounds appealing. Please suggest the best use of that amount of time.
Or . . . .should we rent a car and do our own tour?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. We are staying at San Mateo Marriott.
Also, any suggestions for a good steak dinner in the area?
Thanks to all!

Day trip to Carmel Posted: Tue October 21, 2008 09:24 PM UTC
I am visiting SF in November and staying at the Orchard Hotel on Bush Street near Union Square(its got some great reviews). I want to hire a car so that we can take a day trip to Carmel following the 17 mile drive and checking out some of the beaches.
Does anyone know if this is feasable in a day and if there is anyhing we should see along the way. Is the weather good at the beginning of November?
Also where is a good place to park the rental car overnight as we would like to keep it a couple of days and maybe check out the Napa Valley as well (any suggestions would be welcome). The hotel wants $40 per night parking.
Thanks

Recommendations on wine tours Posted: Sat October 4, 2008 03:20 AM UTC
We'll be visiting San Fran for the Canadian long weekend in October and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on wine tours?
We don't like the heavily commercial wineries like Mission Hill (for those familiar with British Columbia wines)or Robert Mondavi. We love wines like Quail's Gate, found in the Okanagan in British Columbia. We like all kinds of wines (Chardonnays, Shiraz, etc.) and not particular about whether it's red or white (I like white, he likes red).

Baggage Storage in SFO Posted: Fri September 26, 2008 04:43 PM UTC
Hi
I am arriving in SFO with a piece of big luggage. I would like to know whether there is any place where I could store my baggage while a travel to LA. I certainly do not want to bring my big luggage to LA.
The only reason I have my big luggage is that I am moving home from Michigan and stopping by SFO and VEga before I fly back home.

squeakers6136 Posted: Thu September 25, 2008 10:38 PM UTC
I am traveling from Portland Oregon to San Francisco and wanted to take the scenic route. Both AAA and mapquest take me along the coast on 101 but when 101 begins to go east, they keep me on that route rather than taking me on to Highway 1. Is there a reason not to travel down highway 1 to San Francisco vs staying on 101? If I went onto highway 1 it looks like the first city would be Ferndale.
If I take highway 1 rather than the route suggested by those two source of staying on highway 101, how much longer would it be to drive down the coast?
Thanks
