San Francisco San Francisco to Carmel/Monterey
Posted: Wed March 11, 2009 01:25 AM UTC
My friend and I are looking to stay overnight in either Carmel or Monterey, and would like to go whale watching. The problem is, we won't be renting a car. Is there a known good overnight tour from San Francisco to either Carmel or Monterey? Public transport seems convoluted, and there are many day trip but I haven't seen many overnight ones.
Thank you.

San Francisco Vintage/thrift shops in the Bay Area plus other questions
Posted: Mon March 2, 2009 07:36 PM UTC
hey ya'll,

I'm blessed with about 10 days in the Bay Area at the end of the month. I've been there many times but have some different questions than the normal ones this time:

1)I'm looking for some vintage and thrift stores in SF/Oakland. I'm mostly into cowboy shirts and some funky ties.

2)I'll be working on a novel while there and will be looking for some cafes that have bottomless coffee and big windows for people watching, maybe in the Mission?

3)When I arrive at the airport, I won't have my new credit card yet but is it possible to buy a BART ticket with cash from an automated machine at SF airport?

All right, that's a good start, thanks!

San Francisco Trendy/Artistic Shops in SF?
Posted: Thu February 12, 2009 01:30 PM UTC
Hi all,

I'm thinking about going to SF for a week.
What is a good place to walk around where there's a lot of little clothes shops and antique stores and shops that sell artistic things? Somewhere similar to old town Pasadena in LA?

I'd like to visit: the Golden Gate Bridge, China Town, and a beach... in that case, where would be a good location to stay at?

What else is there that is a 'must see'?

Thanks a lot!

San Francisco Wedding in San Francisco
Posted: Sat February 7, 2009 10:33 AM UTC
I've got a couple of questions for you all.
We are a couple from Norway that will get married there this year in July.
I think we will be in a group of 30 people. We would like to get some tips on restaurants and bars for celebrating this. We will try to run this on a budget, we think the people are more important than a stiff and expensive place. A good atmosphere is important so our guest will enjoy the evening. Many of our guest have never met so super expensive/top class Restaurant will stress them all out(on us). If you have a combo with a hotel- restaurant - bar/winebar in a close range it would be great. This is the first time we do something like this(and hopefully the last) so we will consider all tips from you.

Thanks for reading.
Btw; we are 25 and 35 years old, people in our group will be from 18 to 60 years.

San Francisco Expert local support would be great!
Posted: Tue January 27, 2009 11:24 AM UTC
4 single fellas, 30-somethings, really looking forward to 5 nights in your city. We're staying at the Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf in early March.
Though we'll have some of main touristy things planned by the time we arrive, I'd really like to get into the real San Francisco. What I'm saying is that I'd love some recommendations for down to earth pubs/bars, frequented by locals, which serve good beer. Any venues which will give us access to good live music. Restaurants you would eat at yourselves without a second thought. Etc etc.. I'm reading lots through several tourist sites, but would like to hear it from the horse's mouth.

We've already realised that there are no major sporting events while we are there, so while the days will be spent on the main tourist runs, we'd also like to make the most of each night we are there. Thanks in advance.

San Francisco Public Transport
Posted: Sun January 25, 2009 10:27 AM UTC
Hi all,

Can anyone give me some advice on how we can get to Fisherman's Wharf from a BART station? We'll be taking Bart from the airport, and I have a feeling we'll be too tired to walk all the way over to the hotel close to Fisherman's Wharf. I've found the website of Muni, it seems there are plenty of buses from any one of the Bart stations, and it's cheap. Are they convenient with luggage? We'll both have one suitcase with us. I'm not sure which Bart station we'll stop at, any suggestions?

San Francisco 4 days visit SF, with baby; please tips for hotel and public transport!
Posted: Sat January 24, 2009 02:17 PM UTC
Hello!

In june 2009 we stay 4 nights in San Francisco. We're looking for a nice budget/clean hotel (or hostel, bed&breakfast etc.) to stay.
I prefer a nice neighbourhood and peacefull (for a good nightsleep!) above staying in the middle of central SF. Which area is nice to stay, but easy to get to all tourist attractions with public transport? We have a 8 months old baby with us!
Please any tips are welcome!

I also read about a travel pass for SF, but which pass can be used with all public transport? Muni or bart etc... please help! Can we buy it there or online? We also need transport from San Leandro (where we bring back the camper) to the city; is this also included in that travel pass?

Hope somebody can help me!!

Thanks, greetings Karin!

San Francisco visiting SF in the summer with 3 kids
Posted: Thu January 22, 2009 06:52 AM UTC
Hi
i am visiting SF with my wife and 3 kids this summer as part of a 18 day holiday
I start my visit in SF and am then heading south. I intend to spend 3 days in SF
1 I want to stay in a central location in SF. Which area is best so there is public transport.
2 I intend to rent a car from the airpoirt as thats the only area where you can get a GPS. Is it best to take the car as soon as i land or should i take the car after the first 3 days.? The reason i ask as i have heard that driving and parking in SF is difficult.
3 Does anyone know how much (approx) is a taxi from the airport to the central areas of SF?
4 Yosemitie - How far is it from SF?

San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf from my Hotel
Posted: Tue January 20, 2009 03:23 PM UTC
My plane arrives at SFO 6.40pm March 16. I will have a shuttle to take me to my Hotel, Homewood Suites, 2000 Shoreline Court, Brisbane. So, after dumping my bag I want to get to Fisherman's Wharf for something to eat and a look see and then I'd like a walk over Golden Gate Bridge and back at night then back to the Hotel. I walked over the Bridge and back during daylight a couple of years ago. The following morning I leave by 10am for a bus going North. So, is this do-able? Is there a BART near my Hotel? Thanks all

San Francisco Public transport in the bay area?
Posted: Tue January 20, 2009 01:42 PM UTC
Hi. We are going to SF this summer, a big family. We might stay in a big house in Pacifica a bit outside SF. Sice we are travelling with retired parets and small kids thats ok. I would just like to know how the public transport works in general in the bay area? Are the bus connections and busses generally good. Are there any "bad areas" we have to pass through going to central SF? Weve never been there so thoughts and tips on getting around would be appriciated. Thanks/ Nicolas

San Francisco Vacation in SF - Lodging
Posted: Tue January 20, 2009 11:36 AM UTC
Hi to all, we are a family of four (kids are 15, 11 yrs old) and I want to bring them to SF (where I studied for 4 yrs in 1990) for about 3 weeks in summer. I plan to make SF our center point, rent a car and travel to other areas such as Napa Valley, Yosemite Park and also spend quite some time in SF. A hotel in such a case would prove too expensive since 2 rooms are required and we would not utilize them as much. We need a clean decent place with 2 bedrooms where we can leave our stuff and return toit to rest and plan for the next days. Can you recommend such places to stay for 3 weeks?

Thanks

San Francisco Birthday dinner
Posted: Fri January 9, 2009 04:54 AM UTC
I'm surprising my wife with a trip to San Francisco next month for her 60th birthday. Our 3 children (all in their 20's) are meeting us there. She doesn't like fancy but loves places that are fun with lots of atmosphere, preferably serving fish. Also, her birthday is on a Sunday when many restaurants are closed. I would love to be able to get out of the restaurant for under $400.
Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.
