San Diego Getting married in San Diego
Posted: Thu February 12, 2009 07:43 PM UTC
My daughter wants to get married in San Diego in July 2010. All well and good, except we live in Ireland! So now I have lots of research to do and where better than VT? I'll throw my questions out there and if anyone can chip in with an answer here and there I;m sure we can give her that special day.

1. Is it possible to arrange a wedding in a centrally located Roman Catholic Church? And just to make things more awkward she likes the idea of a little white chapel.
2. We will be having a reception for 25-30 guests so suggestions for a nice hotel or restaurant with private facilities that could accommodate us would be welcome. Also,it may be necessary to hold the ceremony at the same location, so please factor this into any suggestions.
3.Are there any popular, picturesque outdoor locations commonly used for wedding ceremonies in SD?
4. All the guests will be flying over from Ireland, so accommodation will be needed. Some will only be staying for a few days and just need some decent quality budget accommodation. Others will make a holiday out of it and will bring young children along, so something central with a pool would be ideal. And some of the younger guests might want to stay near the nightlife of SD. Suggestions for all would be most welcome.
Finally, I would like to say that I visited SD on my honeymoon 30 years ago and I'm really looking forward to seeing it again.

San Diego Suggest Budget hotel in San Diego for long stay
Posted: Fri January 30, 2009 10:43 AM UTC
Hi all. I am planning to come to San Diego for some business purpose. I would be staying in San Diego for around 30 to 40 days. I am looking for an affordable accommodation from where San Diego International airport is nearby. And most importantly the room must have Internet connection so that I can work in my room and stay in touch with my family through voice mail.

My budget is not that big. So please kindly suggest some good, budget hotel. Thanks in advance.

San Diego Mother and Boyfriend coming to visit me for a week in San Diego 2/24/09-3/3/09
Posted: Tue January 27, 2009 09:10 PM UTC
I currently live in San Diego and have visited most of the major tourist attractions, but was wondering what types of places would be good for a couple in their mid 50's? They both like to have a good time and I already know they want to go to the Pechanga casino one day and also the zoo. Are there any good bars to go to downtown for their age group? I was thinking Altitude on the Marriot and Shouthouse? Any ideas on things to do?

San Diego Visiting SD in mid-April with kids (? ). Would like some information
Posted: Sat January 24, 2009 01:28 PM UTC
I stayed in SD for two months in the summer more than 25 years ago and loved it.

I have 3 sons, ages 10, 10, and 14 and am thinking of taking them to SD in mid-April for 5 days. This would be their first trip out west (we live in NY State) and their introduction to Southern California.

I have a few basic questions:

How are the beaches in April? Is it too cold to swim in the ocean?

Which areas of town would be best for kids to stay in, while also being close to the beach?

Are there any activities in particular that you would recommend? How is the amusement park?

Thanks.

San Diego Which Beach area to stay ?
Posted: Wed January 21, 2009 05:26 PM UTC
A Big hello to all VT members, please can you help??
We're new to the site and will be visiting SD for the first time in September 2009 for 1 week. We're 4 adults (2 X 30 somethings and 2 X 50 somethings). We're hoping to book a condo or house on the beach with bars & restaurants nearby but still have easy access into downtown & gaslamp areas. We've been looking at Mission Beach & Ocean Beach for vacation rentals and can't make our minds up. Can you please help us.
We're 2 couples who like to make the most of our travels, enjoy lively spots and will have a car, but not when we're drinking!
Cheers Dave, Stella, Nikki & Phil.

San Diego Beach holiday ideas
Posted: Wed January 21, 2009 01:50 PM UTC
I'm new to virtual tourist and am after some advice...

Me and my girlfriend have booked fligts into vegas in july - spending 3 nights in vegas, with the intention on hiring a car and travelling around the grand canyon and national parks, heading up towards san fran (3 nts) and then towards LA (3-4 nts), all of this in 3 weeks.

We then have a blank canvas - we were planning on visiting cancun (or surrounding area) but decided to spend an extra week in california - san diego seems to meet our main criteria - we are looking for a relaxing beach get-away!

We intend to travel for 3 weeks and spend the final week (aug 12-19th) on a beach before flying out of LAX back to London.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where we should base ourselves for the 1 week period at the end of our tour?! We could keep hold of the hire car or return to the depot early - so our option's are open...any ideas welcome?!

Thanks

San Diego Girls weekend...16 yo, 40-something, 60-something
Posted: Fri December 12, 2008 08:41 PM UTC
I am thinking of taking my 16yo daughter, and 67 year old mother on a trip someplace warm over the winter. It is just going to be a weekend getaway as my daughter is in school. Here are our varied requirements:

* Highs at least in the 60s
* I like the outdoors...nothing overly physical...just like to see the world the way God created it. Love national parks.
* my daughter likes the glitz of the big city...I need to include some excitement for her
* my mother can't walk too much

Does San Diego fit the bill? Where should we stay? Is the Marriott conveniently located and not requiring much walking (I've heard it's large). I have Marriott points I'd like to use.

San Diego Liberty Station.
Posted: Sun December 7, 2008 09:32 PM UTC
Just wondering if anyone can give us any advice re this area. We are considering staying at the Hilton Homewood Suites next July. We will probably spend our time around La Jolla and getting a good tan at Blacks Beach. Last year we stayed at Del Mar - but found it a bit isolated. Is Liberty Station area convenient for restaurants/shops etc within walking distance of this hotel??? I gather its a newly opened area that was previously naval. Thanks for any advice.

San Diego Irvine to San Diego Zoo
Posted: Tue November 18, 2008 12:03 AM UTC
Hi everybody

I know I have to take the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner to San Diego, but which station do I have to get off? Because on the schedule there are two (Old Town and Tijuana). Also is the Zoo near the station or do I have to take a bus or taxi?

Also on the weekdays my friend is pretty busy so I'd like to see some places by myself. Which ones do you recommend on the west coast (except for Disneyland)

Thanks so much

San Diego From Sydney to San Diego!
Posted: Sun November 9, 2008 08:56 PM UTC
Hi Folk

thanks for your help so far. My conference is taking place downtown at the convention centre, W Harbour Drive.

Really interesting about the B&Bs. Here in Australia they tend to be much cheaper than hotels (even budget ones usually).

San Diego From LAX to San diego and then where to stay?
Posted: Sun November 9, 2008 01:53 AM UTC
I am planning to attend a conference in San diego in Jan/Feb 2009. Flying into LAX from Sunny Sydney. Even on the net it is confusing how to get down to san diego. Any suggestions? Bus / last minute airfares / train?

Then considering the weak Aussie Dollar i will need to find some budget accommodation - are there any good hostels or B&B's in the area?

San Diego November travel
Posted: Sun October 19, 2008 06:40 PM UTC
Considering a 4 day vacation in 2nd wk of November. Is it still possible to swim in the ocean or too cold? How about sunning on the beach? We need sun and semi-warm water! Also, we would like to see local wildlife like dolphins, seals, bird - where to go (we'll have a rental car)? Lastly, is there an international district or Chinatown area where we can find great dim sum?

San Diego Worth splitting the nights?
Posted: Tue September 23, 2008 10:12 AM UTC
I have 5 nights in San Diego in November (hotels yet to be booked).

As I don't drive and will rely on public transport, I'm thinking of splitting the nights between 2 hotels (I'm not bothered about packing and unpacking). Thinking to split between Old Town/Gaslamp Quarter/Mission Valley areas for 3 nights and then over to the coast around the Sea World/Mission Bay/Shelter Island area for 2 nights. Is this worthwhile, given San Diego is quite a large town and I don't want to spend a ton of time on public transport getting nowhere?

San Diego Traveling with children
Posted: Sat September 13, 2008 05:42 PM UTC
I am going to San Diego from Indonesia Sept 28 for 3 days with my 2 daughters 6 and 7 years old, we will stay at Hyatt mission bay and plan to visit legoland, sea world, SD zoo/wild park. After 3 days in San Diego we plan to go for Disneyland and stay one of the Disneyland hotel for a 2 days enjoy the disney world, Also we will not miss to visit Universal studio while I am still thinking is it better for me to stay in Disneyland hotel or move to hotel near universal studio considering I am a single parent traveling with 2 children.
I am still questioning myself how will I travel from a place to other places conviniently with children. I don't have international driving licence for rent a car. Is there a car that I can rent including a driver with the car that will drive us anywhere we like? How to travel from SD to Anaheim and to Hollywood conviniently considering I have to keep eyes on my children while bringing big suitcase. I prefer private car with driver that I can rent if any.
Any advice will be appreciated.
