| San Diego | Lawrence Welk villas in escondido Posted: Fri March 28, 2008 05:18 PM UTC
I'm researching the above location for a Thanksgiving visit.
Can I get an idea of the climate there in November and December? Also, we are a family of three with an 8 year old girl, non golfers all. Would this resort seem appropriate for us? We are visiting family in the area, so we wouldn't be there 24/7. Has anyone stayed here and can offer a review? |

| San Diego | shopping and nightlife near downtown district Posted: Tue March 25, 2008 02:50 AM UTC
Just wondering where would be a nice hip place to shop at near Downtown San Diego? I'm interested in fashion boutiques that aren't really big names like LV and Gucci.. more like young fun, one of a kind shops...
and also what's a fun young pub/lounge area there? |

| San Diego | LA to San Diego Zoo Posted: Wed March 19, 2008 10:43 AM UTC
Hello,
I will be passing through LA in May and have just one whole day free. I would love to visit San Diego Zoo. Does anyone know if this is possible in a day with travel time? I found a tour that has LA hotel pick ups on viator.com which might be an option, but it seems to also be a guided tour of the zoo. I really just need transport to and from the zoo from an LA hotel and could do my own thing once there. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you! |

Hi all, my wife are travelling from Australia and have rented an apartment in Coronado for mid May 08. We want to do some day trips or a 2/3 day trip into Mexico, but not in our hire car.
Does anyone have suggestions/experiences they can share. Not that keen on Tijuana as we have been there on a previous trip. cheers Matt |

| San Diego | Problems finding a hotel Posted: Wed March 12, 2008 05:47 AM UTC
My GF and I have rescheduled our vacation to September and have not done any real planning up till now for it. I'm having one hell of a time finding a hotel for us and could use any suggestions you may have.
The main problem is that I can't figure out which hotels are total dumps, which might be alright, and which would definitely be good... but also trying to stay on something of a budget ($150/night at the most, I'd really prefer less!, free parking, free internet, good amenities, etc). I cross reference reviews from sites like TripAdvisor, Travelocity, Expedia, etc but I don't know which reviews are legit, which might be fake, which might be written from some OCD obsessive clean freak whose definition of a dump would be acceptable to me, etc, or maybe they just had a bad experience but it's not the norm. I've noticed that a lot of hotel reviews on TripAdvisor are really bad going back a few years but recent ones are all praises, so renovations? fake reviews? I don't know what to believe. We are going to be staying for 8-9 nights so we want to stay someplace clean, comfortable, safe, and feel like we are on vacation and not in a refugee camp of a third world country. I was considering Country Inn & Suites By Carlson if I could get a better rate directly from the hotel via phone, free parking, free internet, decent reviews.. but I found out that it was somewhat in a business park type of setting, one restaurant that neither of us like, nothing in walking distance, etc.. so that sort of kills the whole vacation feeling. The Inn at Sunset Cliffs seemed to be more along the lines of what we'd want as far as that vacation scene goes but the very small rooms would be a comfort level thing. Paying for the location and certainly not the amenities or comfort. And every other place I've looked at the reviews basically leave it to a 50/50 chance that the whole vacation might suck because the hotel is not what we want but are stuck with. I don't know what to do! |

I plan on staying 3 nights in San Diego during the latter part of March, and two of the destinations I plan on visiting are the Zoo and the Animal Park. Can someone help me determine the best way of traveling from the Zoo to the Park? Is there a certain bus I can take, or is taking the taxi the best available method?
Thanks for your help! |

| San Diego | How to Get to Tijuana Airport from SD Posted: Thu January 10, 2008 06:17 PM UTC
Can anyone recommend a good way to get to the Tijuana airport from San Diego using public transportation and/or taxi?
I was thinking about taking the trolley to the border, walking across, and getting a cab to the airport. Will that work OK? Any ideas on cost of taxi? Thanks |

| San Diego | Looking for Local Fun in San Diego Posted: Tue December 25, 2007 10:57 PM UTC
Happy Holidays all! I'm visiting my parents for the holidays in Vista, near San Diego, coming from Toronto, Canada.
I'd like to get some recommendations for fun spots or activities in (and around) San Diego. I've been to most of the tourist spots such as Balboa, La Jolla, Sea World, and the Wild Animal Park. I'm looking for more of a local flavour... some fun for someone my age (23) and perhaps a chance to meet a few friends. I'm interested in anything from cool restaurants/bars/hangouts, to live music venues, to salsa clubs. Appreciate any recommendations! |

| San Diego | people in San Diego / the trolley Posted: Sat December 22, 2007 11:01 PM UTC
Hello,
I'm curious if there's any truth to this: I've heard quite a few times that people in southern california tended to be rather superficial and unfriendly. I know that doesn't mean all of them are, but I was even told so by somebody who lives in orange county. However I've also heard that San Diego had some of the most friendly people in the US and that people there were considerably more friendly than they tended to be in LA. I know that you do have nice people and idiots everywhere, but it depends on their ratio, doesn't it?;-) Another thing Ive been wondering: How efficient is the trolley in San Diego? I know that usually in California anything other than a car is not an option, really, but I've heard that the trolley in San Diego worked quite well. But then again Im wondering does that only mean it works well in comparison to public transport in other cities in southern california? or is it a means of transport that enables people to use it as a part of their daily lives instead of a car? thank you! |

| San Diego | Budget Accomodations Posted: Wed December 19, 2007 08:25 PM UTC
In looking for budget accomodations in San Diego, the most reasonable seemed to be in the Imperial Beach area. I read on the net that this might not be the best of areas. Any advice on the safest neighborhoods, or any other accomodations would be appreciated, evenly locally owned, not necessarily a chain. thank you

| San Diego | Chula Vista, San Diego Posted: Sun December 16, 2007 08:24 PM UTC
Hi,
We have a week scheduled this summer at a RV campground in Chula Vista. The RV resort is located on Sandpiper way next to the marina. We were thinking of taking the public transportation to downtown San Diego until our neighbor mentioned that it was not a good area to be out at nights and it was generally not a safe area. Before we change our plans on the transportation to town I though it might be helpful to get other opinions on the area. If you have any opinions on the area please advise us. Thanks, Mike |

| San Diego | SF to SD without LA Posted: Fri December 14, 2007 09:25 PM UTC
I was born in SD and lived there for several years. Once in a while I go back. Sometimes I fly and sometimes I drive. But each time I drive I get stuck in traffic in Los Angeles.
Friends of mine tell me that there's a good route around LA, east of the mountains. Does anyone have suggestions for this? |

Any suggestions for a good hotel close by. I don't mind if we have to drive as we have a rental car but I would like a one bedroom with at least a hide a bed or maybe two queen beds if possible. Location and price ar most important. |
