Carolinian has Q: Lodging within 30 minutes of Monterey? Posted: Thu May 12, 2005 05:19 PM UTC
As a graduation gift to my 18 y/o daughter, we are touring from SF to LA in late July (7/27 - 8/2). With 4 in the party, and realizing we chose the high summer season to visit the resort areas, our lodging budget is in trouble for our stay 7/29 in Monterey.
We will be 'touristing' all day (SF to Monterey/Carmel) and are not big night life people. Done mind drive away from Monterey/Carmel a few miles (20-30) if the rates are better.
What are your thought on doing the SF to Monterey thing during the day then staying in, say, Salinas or a neighboring town? Or is it worth it to stay in Monterey?
Thx

Monterey hotel location Posted: Mon April 11, 2005 09:00 PM UTC
Hallooo, just a quick query, anyone who knows Monterey.... I was looking at booking the Best Western Monterey Inn for 3 nights over Memorial weekend. We wanted to stay near where we could walk out to bars in the evening but don't mind driving to the sights in the day. Is downtown a better place to be staying for the nightlife (less touristy) and is that hotel okay, they all seem a bit pricey round there.
Many thanks, Karen

Blues in Monterey? Posted: Wed April 6, 2005 08:02 PM UTC
My family and I will be in Salinas from 24 to 25 June (travelling south from SF). This is the weekend of the Monterey Bay Blues Festival (which is why we couldn't find lodging in Monterey itself...), and my question is this:
Does anyone know if there are any blues concerts or other blues events in Monterey and/or Salinas during the festival - apart from the main event at Monterey Fairgrounds?
Thanks for your input.

Place to stay from July 7 to July 10 Posted: Mon March 28, 2005 10:55 PM UTC
Hello! I was just wondering if anyone knows of any places to stay at for the weekend of the Moto GP race at Laguna Seca in Monterey. I've emailed some of the hotels and inns in that area and so far I've had no luck. So if you know of anyone who's renting out their place, room, etc for the weekend or the week of July 1 to July 10, please let me know. It's supposed to be a honeymoon/Moto GP adventure but so far it's becoming a real pain trying to find a place to stay at. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Camping at Monterey Bay Posted: Fri March 11, 2005 11:39 PM UTC
I can't seem to find camping in Monterey bay, everywhere I look is 45 miles away, or a stupid RV park.
....Sorry, just getting a little frusterted.
Does anyone out there know of a real camptite, where we can put up tents, roast hot dogs over a fire, ect., as close to Monterey as I can get?
If posible, on or near the beach?
I'm trying to plan this for my girlfriend's birthday.
We want to swim in the ocean, something besides the ucky brown stuff in sana cruz. And go to the aquarium.
I don't mind a short drive, but there's a group of 8 of us comeing from Pittsburg, ca. When we get there, we don't want to have to drive for a long while.
Thanks.

Anybody have any comments good or bad about the Butterfly Grove Inn at 1073 Lighthouse Avenue, Pacific Grove? I am thinking about staying here. It looks like a nice place but it is not AAA rated and I am a little leary.

Visit To Monterey & Neigbouring Places Posted: Mon October 25, 2004 03:54 PM UTC
Hi Everyone
I need some help and suggestions from the locals and travel gurus here...
I will be visiting my friends in Monterey (they just went there to study recently too) somewhere mid-Jan 2005 for about 12 days.
Besides touring Monterey itself, can you guys recommend an itinerary for me as to places that must visit or experience? A must to include in is LA - Universal Studio. What we are looking at are some sightseeing, amusement parks and shopping.
Look forward to seeing replies. Thanks in advance!

Driving from Monterey to Oakland Posted: Mon August 30, 2004 11:21 PM UTC
Visiting a friend in Monterey in early October and plan to drive down from Oakland and then back -- about how long is the drive using the most scenic route (I gather almost all routes are scenic around there!)? Also, if I wanted to stop about half way between Monterey and Oakland on the way back -- where would be a good overnight stopping point?
Thanks, SESM

Life in Monterey County, CA Posted: Thu July 8, 2004 09:50 PM UTC
What is life like in Monterey County? Especially King City and environs. The pace, Asian pop culture, the people, things to do and that sort. I'm a city-loving type and I enjoy sprawling regions (for the most part), such as the one I'm currently living in, with assorted diversions and the warts of a 5 million people metro.
My wife is about to take a job there and I would have to leave my beloved Houston to go there. I am no stranger to California, having lived in SoCal for two years and visited the Bay Area numerous times. But I've not yet ventured to places along the 101 Highway.
I have read some stuff about it but I would like hard experiences and opinions. I know the Bay Area is about 60 to 75 miles away, depending on location, but I am about to leave my beloved diverse, upswinging (and affordable!) metro to go back out to the Pacific Coast where a small, if touristy, county of 450,000 awaits us.
I love California but the thought of leaving H-town does make me more than a little sad.
I'd appreciate some thoughts.

Accomodation in Monterey Posted: Thu March 18, 2004 02:40 AM UTC
Hi,
My friend and I will be driving from San Francisco to Monterey for a 2-night stay. Any recommendation for a budget accomodation with free parking near the aquarium?
Our budget is 140USD if it comes with 2 aquarium tickets.
Thanks.

VT Auctions are AWESOME!!!!! Posted: Tue January 6, 2004 06:30 PM UTC
So, I got to experience my 1st VT auction that I had won last month. I bid on the Carriage House Inn auction and let me tell you, it truly is an AMAZING 4-star quality B&B! We had the most amazing time up in Carmel, CA and I know that some of you were wary about using the auctions here, but I highly recommend it!!!!! Just wanted to let you all know!!!! :)

Where can I ride? Posted: Mon May 26, 2003 06:22 PM UTC
I was thinking of spending some time up in Monterey this winter but it is vitally important that I get some snowboarding in my schedule. So I was wondering how far/long of a drive it is to Mammoth or any other good riding.

I'd like to go hiking in the mountains Posted: Sat May 24, 2003 05:44 PM UTC
I plan to visit the Monterey Bay area in a week or so. Can you offer any suggestions as to where one might find the best hiking trails, preferably those offering unobstructed views of Monterey Bay? A 5 to 8 mile round trip is really what I had in mind, but I'm open to shorter trail.

The last one is presented as being in the city center. This location is not verified on the map.
