| Long Beach | Best Westerns in Long Beach Posted: Wed July 18, 2007 04:16 PM UTC
Hi there. We plan to use some points for a one-night stay at one of the Best Westerns in Long Beach this October. Can anyone recommend which Best Western is the best (property, location etc.) -
- Best Western at the Convention Centre - Best Western of Long Beach - Best Western Golden Sails Also, some friends want to book a room (up to $110 roughly) in a good location at the same time (October) - not necessarily at a Best Western if they can find something better. Any advice on a great hotel in that price range would be great. Thanks, Karin |

| Long Beach | Come to a VT meet and Party with me!!! July 27th 2007 Posted: Tue July 10, 2007 01:15 PM UTC
Hi my name is Jenn. I am from Columbus Ohio and I have never seen the Pacific Ocean. Do you believe that? Well, I will be visiting your fine State in a couple weeks. And guess what while I am in town there is gonna be one heck of a Party. Oops I mean VT meet.
So here are the facts (aka reasons to come out to the VT Meet. 1.) You get to hang out with members near the beach. 2.) You can drink and have food and fun while doing so. 3.) Its summer time and a great time to go to the beach to meet cool fun people. 4.) It’s at a really cool place. Sharkeez in Manhattan Beach 3801 Highland Ave. Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 310.545.6563 5.) It’s on a Friday so you don’t have to work the next day. 6.) It’s California. (That’s more for me) LOL. You are used to being there. 7.) Reserved seating at the bar and drink Specials. 8.) I hear the Southern California VT members know how to Party. 9.) I will be there (What more do you need) ha ha. So please come sign up for the Meet on July 27th 2007 The organizer is Kzapanta and Jenn_d who have been awesome at helping me plan my trip. Here is a link to the meet I hope you will come and sign up…. http://meetings.virtualtourist.com/2/meeting-3908- Hope to see you there..... |

| Long Beach | Any comments on the Holiday Inn in the Downtown Area? Posted: Thu May 31, 2007 04:21 PM UTC
Hello there
Was hoping for some local advice as to the immediate area around the Holiday Inn Hotel in the downtown area, is it dangerous in the daytime? We plan to visit Long Beach in Jan and there is such a fight in the family as a whole group of us are making the trip. Any local information or comments would be very helpful. Thanks for your time! | Long Beach | Visiting Long Beach, CA Mar 24-30...what to wear/what to do/beach Posted: Mon February 19, 2007 05:07 PM UTC
I'll be in Long Beach Mar 24-30, staying at the Hyatt Regency near the beach. I plan to spend time at the beach during the day and go out and have fun in the evenings. What's considered appropriate swimwear on the beach for a young male in good shape? Where is good to go in the evenings? What is the temp likely to be?
Thanks! |

| Long Beach | the safety of public transit Posted: Thu January 4, 2007 03:16 PM UTC
Hello,
I'll be visiting Long Beach next week for 3 days and will be staying at a hotel near the waterfront. My plan is to spend 2 days in the hollywood/santa monica area and 1 day at a beach. According to the MTA website theres the 'blue line' that goes to LA and I can transfer to the 'green line' to go to Rotondo and transfer to the 'red line' to go to hollywood. My questions are: Is it safe to travel through southern LA from Long Beach, ie. through Compton and other areas. And if its not safe can anyone recommend a better (yet cheap) way to go to the places I mentioned. I'm a young female travelling alone and I don't want to put myself in any dangerous situations. Thanks! |

| Long Beach | planning to travel with dogs - need advice Posted: Tue November 14, 2006 07:06 PM UTC
Hey - I've enjoyed reading some of the Q&A regarding the area. Looking for a bit of sunshine, beach time, relax, maybe mild hiking, place for my dogs to hang, meet some *interesting* people, quiet time but also nice music (jazz or Dj house or break beat music) at night, perhaps. I'll be driving from Denver with 2 huskies sometime here late November or December. So don't want to go somewhere that's in 90's - hopefully no hotter than mid 80's. Hoping for a place that is dog-friendly and looking for a potential hostel or low-key hotel that we can stay at that's clean. I figure this is the closest, nicest area to Denver that has beach but am open for other suggestions. I also like Ultimate frisbee :)
I read about Long Beach so that doesn't sound as interesting as the other places like Venice, Santa Monica, Redondo, Hermosa, etc. Never been to this area so have no idea what to expect. Any advice is welcome! |

Hey, I am going to Long Beach next week but I am not sure which hotel to choose... I would like to know which one is the closest to the beach, so it is possible to walk. And is the Long Beach a cool place to hang at the beach or is Huntington more crowded?

| Long Beach | Travel advice Posted: Wed October 19, 2005 10:46 PM UTC
Hello
Can anybody tell me whether there is public transit available from LAX to Long Beach (specifically the Queen Mary) mid-week, mid-day? How complicated is it to get from the airport to LB? What does it cost? Also, I've heard that there's a water taxi or something from the Queen Mary to the Convention Centre...if so, what's the schedule like, and what does it cost? Thanks very much for any advice! torontoharmreduction@yahoo.ca |

| Long Beach | Tourist Advice Posted: Mon August 15, 2005 03:52 PM UTC
Hey all
I'm not totally sure if this is the right place to post or if it'll get a reply, but I'm going to California this October. Obviously it's not the best time of year but its the only time I really have free and it's fairly cheap to get flights then. Anywho, I'm a 17 yeard old guy and will probably be travelling alone depending on how reliable my friends who also want to go are. I was thinking of Long Beach as a good place to go to. On my trip I'll just want to chill out, do some shopping, have some fun, and maybe meet some other young people, because I'm a very social person. Do you think Long beach is a decent place for that kinda normal stuff or is there somewhere else you could recommend? Thanks Sam |

| Long Beach | Kinder Chocolates Posted: Tue August 2, 2005 08:29 PM UTC
I've just returned from travelling in Europe for the past year. I developed quite an addiction to various Kinder chocolates (especially Kinder Bueno), but have never seen them sold anywhere in California. Does anyone know of a European import store, grocery store, or international chocolate shop where I might be able to find Kinder Bueno? I'm willing to drive from the top of L.A. County to the bottom of Orange County. Any info would be totally appreciated. Thanks!

| Long Beach | Little People Community Posted: Sun July 3, 2005 08:32 PM UTC
I hate to ask -- and I hope this isn't offensive to anyone, buuuut:
My friend is on a feverish search for a "little people community" in Long Beach. She hears people swear that it really does exist. I was born and raised in Long Beach and have never heard of it. I told her I would post here and ask. Does anyone know about this???? Thanks, Kristin |

| Long Beach | Know a Good Buyer's Agent in Long Beach??? Posted: Fri May 20, 2005 01:41 AM UTC
Hello.
We're moving cross-country this summer and sorta looking to buy a home in Long Beach. Yes, it's gotten a bad rap for gangs but so have rottweilers though they're excellent dogs...PLUS Snoop's pretty cool on the big screen. Though we stumbled across a fantastic RE agent for OC (our other option), we're having a heck of time finding one that covers the LB area (okay, so we're not looking at North LB). Can anyone recommend a good buyer's agent who's familiar with Eastside, the Bixby area or the historic districts/areas? By "good", I mean not pushy but patient, perhaps even "earthy"--this is California after all! A speciality in relocation would be perfect. Thanks all! Rita |

| Long Beach | Taxis from Long Beach Cruise PIer to LAX Posted: Wed May 4, 2005 02:03 AM UTC
Hi
We are a group of 8: 4 adults & 4 kids coming off a cruise on May 16. Are the taxis at the pier plentiful? How long a ride would it be to LAX? Would it be cheaper to go in 2 taxis or better to pre-book SuperShuttle? Thanks for your help. |

| Long Beach | Advice needed please Posted: Wed March 2, 2005 06:21 AM UTC
Me and my friend have booked 10 days holiday and will be staying in the Long Beach Hotel, Long Beach in August. As we are going on holiday we are looking to relax durng the day but will probably be out every night but not sure where and how far we are from the nightlife and stuff and where the normal places to go would be when going to LA. Reviews I have read on the hotel seem as though its very quiet. I am worried we are gonna be in the middle of nowhere and far from any kind of nightlife. Can anyone advise on distances & frequency & the normal prices for taxi's.
Thanks |

| Long Beach | Long Beach or Redondo Beach? Posted: Sat January 22, 2005 03:46 PM UTC
I will be moving to Southern California in May and will be working in Torrance. I know that Redondo Beach is closer to Torrance than Long Beach, however, which city would you suggest living in? (safety, food, apartments, etc). What are the advantages of either? I've never been out there before but will visit the first week in February. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

| Long Beach | Long Beach relocation Posted: Thu January 20, 2005 01:57 PM UTC
I'm a single mom of two boys looking to escape the cold winters of NYC and Southern California seems like a nice change. Only thing is, I don't know much about west coast living. I'm tossed between L.A and Long Beach. I was told LB may be better to raise a family, but I don't know the neighborhoods to avoid and which are better suited for kids. I think my major concern about California is all the talk about gang activity. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...Thanks!!!
