International Photography Festival in Berlin (NOVEMBER) Posted: Sat October 31, 2009 12:30 AM UTC
Does anyone know good links I can read up on about this, or just any information I should know?? I'm coming over to Berlin on the 13th of November till the 16th. Initially my plan was to take photos of the newly painted wall pieces, street grafitti and other obvious sites etc. Whilst googling one day, I was so excited to see that the Photography Exhibition is taking place, but i've not managed to find much about it. Any chat back about this would be great! X

U2 concert Posted: Thu October 29, 2009 08:08 PM UTC
This morning I heard there will be a free U2 concert in front of the Branderburger Tor to mark the 20th anniversary since the fall of the Berlin wall. Since I'm a U2 fan, and I remember the fall and the events it led to, I really wanted to go and started checking for flights. And just now, I read on some website that the 10 000 tickets were out:( I didn't know there would be tickets. They can't possibly cover the area around the gate. Does anyone know how it will be. Whether you could still hang out and see and hear what's going on the stage beyond the ticket area? Also, are there any other events commemorating the anniversary at that time, or the period Nov. 5-7?
Thank you,
Christina

hotel prices in east and west Berlin Posted: Wed October 28, 2009 01:09 AM UTC
I'm looking to book a few days in Berlin in January. Thinking of two Holiday Inns, one in Hochstrasse, Mitte and the other in the east of the city on Prenzlauer Allee.
There is quite a difference in price, E 100 over 3 nights. I was just wondering why? Is it a dodgy area, not much to do? Is there more around the Western one?
Also I hoping to get away from grey drizzly England for a few days. What's the chance of it being very cold and snowy at that time of year?
Any must see places? My wife is looking forward to shopping. Do they have large indoor shopping centres like in England?

Is the S-Bahn back on line? Posted: Mon October 26, 2009 03:45 PM UTC
Howdy,
I'll be back in Berlin in a couple of weeks and was wondering how the S-bahn trains are running now. Especially the vital S-9 which I normally take to get from the airport to downtown Berlin.
Any new developments? Is the S-bahn back to normal?

Weimar cabaret in Berlin Posted: Tue October 20, 2009 11:51 PM UTC
Does it still exist anywhere in Berlin? Seriously, are there any clubs/cabaret/revue/burlesque type bars that would have that sort of decadent 'cabaret' type entertainment...even if it is only a tourist type thing....if so would it be likely to be on mid-week?

mini trip Posted: Tue October 20, 2009 08:50 PM UTC
I am wanting to go on a trip to Germany next summer to improve my German and take in some sights. I will be travelling with my partner and 6 year old daughter. We definitely want to move on to Vienna and take the boat to Bratislava.
My idea is UK - Berlin - Munich - Vienna - Bratislava - UK
do you think this is realistic. If not any tips are greatly appreciated e.g. the most economical ways to travel e.g.train, fly, boat etc. and what kinds of places should we stay? Rough costs etc.
I have big ideas but not got a clue how to go about it!! thanks

Reasonable priced nightlife Posted: Sat October 17, 2009 03:24 PM UTC
Hi.
We will be visiting Berlin for my friends birthday and want to find some nice, reasonably priced bars/pubs to visit in the evening.
We do not mind a bit of a crowd but do not want bars that have banging music where you are unable to think, live music is ok as that does not last the whole evening. We mainly drink vodka/beer and with the £ being weak against the € we are looking for "cheap but cheerful". We do not mind having to walk/subway (we are staying between Brandenburger Gate & Potsdamer Platz)
Can you help?
Thanks

Help with accomodation location Posted: Sat October 17, 2009 01:13 AM UTC
I'm trying to select between several apartments. Almost finished! Can anyone comment on the best location between these alternatives. We'd like a location suitable for a family. We want a very central location with restaurants and grocery available nearby. Here are our choices:
1. Near Brandenburg Gate (200 meters) and Potsdamer Platz ( U2 -Mohrenstrasse) Near Hotel Adion)
2. Between Brandenburg Gate (300 meters) and Potsdamer Platz ( U2 -Mohrenstrasse is just in front of building). Balcony view to Potsdamer Platz.
3. Nikolai Quarter - 200 meters from Alexanderplatz (U Bahn - Alexanderplatz)
4. Near Gendarmenmark (100 meters) and Friedrichstrasse (50 meters) (U Bahn - Alexanderplatz)
I would appreciate any help - first time to Berlin!
Thanks!

S-Bahn Posted: Tue September 1, 2009 11:20 PM UTC
Hi all I will be visiting Berlin in October. I got the following message on the BVG site. Is anything going on with the S-Bahn service right now.
Information for customers of S-Bahn (suburban train)
Due to urgent security checks the S-Bahn services are limited. However, as Berlin provides an extensive public transport network all touristic attractions continue to be reachable easily: Underground trains and trams, busses, as well regional trains are another reliable option.

14-18 September in Berlin Posted: Sat August 29, 2009 07:15 PM UTC
hello everybody!
my boyfriend and i will be visiting Berlin between 14-18 september. can anybody tell me if there are any cultural events/ concerts/ festivals during this period?
and can someone give me some examples of how the prices are in the supermarkets(for beer, bread, fruits and vegetebals etc). we're living in Oslo now and everything here is sooo expensive, as far as i know Berlin is not a very expensive city, is this true? we have a budget of about 200 euros for 4 days, is it enough?
also i'm a bit confused about the zones regarding public transportation, i was thinking about buying a 3 day pass for the transportation.
we'll be staying at a hostel named Amadeus, do any of you guys know anyhting about it?
i also wanted to buy some cd-s while in Berlin, do any of you know some music stores where i can find rock music?
thanks
