Berlin Berlin walks tours
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 04:20 PM UTC
I am not the kind of person that likes organised excursions, but I normally enjoy the tour walks. I had been reading a couple of external links of companies that organise them and we may take one (the stadard one) on the first day to give us an idea of the city by walking. I have found it in Spanish at insidetours.(If anybody does know any other company that does in Spanish please let me know!)

But as John Le Carre early books fan, I had always dream in visiting all that places one day (I know, it is not the same LOL)so I looked for more specific tours, but they are all in English. Do you know any company that does them in other languages? (I do not have problems with the english ones, but I prefer if possible in my mother tongue)

thanks in advance

Berlin Travel from Berlin to Frankfurt
Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 11:14 AM UTC
Does anyone know how much it costs to catch a train from Berlin to Frankfurt. The air travel is too expensive. Where would you catch the train, do you book in advance and how long would it take?

Berlin Places to stay in Berlin
Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 05:20 PM UTC
Hi:
I'll be visiting Berlin for four days in late july. It will be the first time I go there, arriving at Tegel Airport, and I'm trying to make up my mind about where to stay, on a tight budget (around 100 dollars per night).
I've been reading comments of several hotels, and those on that price range always seem to have an issue with toilets and room space (too little, not comfortable...).
Of course, I would also like to be somewhere that is close to the visiting places, or close to them by public transport (don't we all ;) )
So if you have any tips, I'll appreciate it.

Berlin One Full Day in Berlin - What to do?
Posted: Wed April 30, 2008 04:57 PM UTC
Hi, I only have 1 full day in Berlin and it's my first time to visit the city.
- What are the must see sights in 1 day?
- What is the best itinerary you can suggest?
- Will it be wise to purchase a Berlin Welcome card even if I'm spending only 1 day?
- What's the best way to get around the city to visit must-see sights?

Thanks a lot!

Berlin train question dresden - vienna
Posted: Thu April 24, 2008 11:24 AM UTC
I have another train question -
after dresden, we want to take a train to vienna. right now the fare i'm getting online is 221 euros for 3. just want to know if there is a cheaper way to do this - like buying the portion from dresden to ?? border town between Czech/Austria and buy another ticket for the portion within Austria. i checked bahn.de and there are some special tickets 57 Euro for 3 (but to prague only).
we are on a tight budget so if you have any suggestions, please let me know.
thanks.

Hi Everyone,

I hope you can help me with this--a writer from the New York Times needs some assitance with an article about money-saving tips on the metros of several European cities, specifically London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, and Barcelona. If you have any and are interested in speaking with him, please email me so I can have him contact you, and of course, please share them here as well! Where Berlin and Barcelona are concerned, he is also looking for tips about safety and navigation as well.

As always, thanks, everyone!

Berlin Berlin for the lone traveller
Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 08:34 PM UTC
I am thinking of travelling to Berlin for 3 or 4 days in May on my own. I am perfectly content in my own company but was wondering if Berlin is a safe city for a lone travel. I am a male in my 30's and relatively streetwise. Are there any areas that i should avoid and where would be a good central point to stay to visit the main sites on foot?

Thanks in advance
Gary.

Berlin neonatal icu?
Posted: Mon April 14, 2008 04:26 PM UTC
My wife and I are traveling to Berlin from the U.S. soon and she is far enough into her pregnancy that the doctor has told us to find a hospital there with a neonatal intensive-care unit just in case. I've tried searching online and have turned up nothing. Figured I'd try here in case someone works in a hospital or health care or possibly someone else who was in a similar situation was able to find one and could let us know. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi!

I am going to stay in Berlin in We are going to stay at NH hotel Alexanderplatz in Landsberger Allee 26-32, D-10249 Berlin.

I need to book a restaurant with a private dining room to hold a meeting and dinner for about 20 to 25 people. Or any restaurant where there are not so many people to make communication impossible.

Is there any place with that service close to the NH Alexanderplatz hotel?

Berlin Bus Info Needed
Posted: Sun March 30, 2008 10:01 PM UTC
I'm trying to find out / work out if there are buses running along a number of streets I will be visiting. I looked at http://www.fahrinfo-berlin.de/Fahrinfo/bin/query.bin/en but I mainly get S or & Bahn info.

So, I wonder if anyone could point me to a bus map or perhaps bus the numbers that run along these streets/routes:

- From Karl Liebknechtstr / Prenzlauer to Knaackstr (10178)
or
- Shönhauserstr / Allee Schönhauser Allee(10119) to Eberswalderstr (10437)

- From Mühlenstrasse (10243) up Warschauerstrasse (10243) to Frankfurter Allee (10247)/ Karl-Marx-Allee

- From Frankfurter Allee (10247) along with Karl-Marx-Allee to Karl Liebknechtstr

- From Waterloo Ufer (10961) along with Mehringdam (10961) to Gneisenaustr (10961)

- From the corner of Mehringdam (10961) and Bergmanstr (10961) along with Bermanstr to Körtestr (10967)
or
- From Mehringdam (10961) along with Gneisenaustr (10961) to Körtestr (10967)

- From Moritzplatz (10969) along with Oranienstr to Kochstr (10969)

- From Lessingstr (10555) along Altonaerstr (10557) then along Hofjägerallee (10785) to Stülerstr (10787)

- Along Kurfürstendamm (10719) between Joachimstaler (10719) and Konstanzerstr (10707)

- From Hardenbergerstr (10623) along Otto-Suhr-Allee (10585) to Spandauer Damm (14059)

I am certain that there won't be buses running exactly along the above specified routes, but perhaps there are routes kind of along those lines.

I know I can use the S or U Bahn in stead, but I'll be travelling with someone who can't walk for too long. Also, it's usually better to take the buses because you can actually see your surroundings.

Any info will be grately appreaciated.

Many thanks.

Berlin S-Bahn Info Needed
Posted: Sun March 30, 2008 01:09 PM UTC
I'm finding it a bit difficult to work out lines S41 - S47. I need to go from Bundesplatz to Westend (direct). If I read correctly, I can take the S41 (which runs clockwise) to Westened. However, it also looks as if I can take the S46 and S47, but I'm not sure about this. Can anyone please confirm this?

It seems as if the S42 runs counter-clockwise, so I shall avoid it. I'm only interested in the lines that run clockwise from Bundesplatz to Westend.

Many thanks

Berlin U Bahn Info Needed
Posted: Sun March 30, 2008 11:30 AM UTC
I wonder if anyone can confirm whether the U Bahn runs between HBF-Lehrter Banhof (the main station) and Unter den Linden. I have a map that shows this route, but the PDF document (another map) I downloaded from the Berlin tourist site (or it could have been another site) states that the line is still under construction.

Also, if the line exists, are there any trains between HBF-Lehrter Banhof and Unter den Linden on a Sunday evening between 22:30 - 23:00? How long does the journey take? It looks fairly short on the map, so I reckon it's 3 - 5 minutes.

Many thanks

Berlin Bicycle rental for a week or metro?
Posted: Mon March 24, 2008 09:44 PM UTC
Hi Everyone!

I see that the weather is improving for my March 28 -> April 6th visit. With that in mind, should I rent a bicycle to get around faster and have more fun, for a day, or the whole week, or take the metro because it will still be cold at night?

I'd like to save money so would be interested in how much a weekly rental of a bike would be? Do they come with a basket?

Ideally, it would seem I could cover more territory by spending less time in the metro giving me more time for photos.

Also, suggestions for bike rental places. I'll be in the Mitte near Alexanderplatz at Alte Schonhauserstr. 2.
