death valley flooding Posted: Sat August 21, 2004 09:27 PM UTC
i have just read about the terrible storms to hit death valley, causing the rangers to close the park. apparently visitors to furness creek had to be evacuated and many of the roads have been severly damaged. the storms hit on about the 16th and police believe it caused the death of at least two people. quite worrying seeing that we intended visiting soon. anybody know anymore.

Hiking and Camping Light Advice Needed Posted: Sat August 7, 2004 11:41 PM UTC
I am going camping/ hiking in Death Valley in late August and want to travel as light/ lean/efficient as possible. I've googled this but have not found too much on the subject. I'd like to hear of anyones particular successes with lightweight products and clothing gear designed specifically for this type of enviroment. I've been there twice before some years ago and am quite aware of the need for caution and preparedness. Thanks for any input you may have.

Query from the UK Posted: Thu July 22, 2004 05:51 PM UTC
We live in the UK, and are flying into Las Vegas for 2 weeks, from September 13th. For our 2nd week (as we head back towards Las Vegas from Santa Barbara, we wanted to find somewhere to base ourselves for a couple of days, where we could do some hiking and see some glorious countryside. Is Death Valley N.P. a good choice? If so, where should we stay, and can you recommend a hotel? Do you have a website for a more detailed map?
MANY THANKS
David Howard

So...Death Valley? Posted: Sun June 27, 2004 01:50 PM UTC
Will I be too crazy to visit Death Valley in August? This will probably be my only chance since I will be travelling from Europe, but I am slightly worried about the heat. How bad can it be? Coming from the South Mediterranean I am used and I enjoy hot temperatures but Death Valley is supposed to be too hot!
Also, I will be travelling with an RV-motorhome. Is there a campground where I can park in the Death Valley?
Thanks!!!!

Death Valley where to stay Posted: Sat February 14, 2004 01:15 PM UTC
Hi,
we (a group of 12) people are heading to a USA trip in March. Our route goes trough Death Valley and Las Vegas. As our income is pretty low :) we are looking for a place to stay in death valley or somewhere on a route to las vegas.
I was looking about Furnace Creek, however it seems to be too expensive. Are there some really cheap hotels, motels, ... in Fournace Creek ? (is it possible to take 3 rooms where 4 people would stay in a room ?)
As there are several camping sites in death valley i was hoping i could hear something about them.
I'm interested especially for Fournace Creek, Sunset and Texsas Spring caps, has anyone been there ?
I have also read that snake-nite-kit is recommended, has anyone bought that ?
Thank you in advance, Gregor
