Sabino Canyon Posted: Fri March 13, 2009 10:20 AM UTC
Meeting several friends there for the first time. Is there a place where we can sit, have a coke and wait for all of us to arrive that's around the park: Sunrise Dr. and Sabino Canyon Road?

Safe for a day-trip to Nogales Mexico? Posted: Fri January 9, 2009 02:06 PM UTC
I'm probably making it to Tucson in March. I was thinking of going across the border to Nogales Mexico for a day. I've heard of all the violence in Mexico and wasn't sure if Nogales is one of the cities that's best left unvisited? I'd only be there during the day, and possible stopping in a pharmacist to pick up some inexepensive drugs for my mom if that's still allowed.

Tucson Airport layout and directions Posted: Tue October 14, 2008 12:40 AM UTC
Its a few years since my last visit so I only have very vague recollections of the airport layout and remember missing our intended route as we drove away in our rental car. I'm on my own this time and it will have been a long day so the more knowledge I am armed with the better!
I will be arriving from Atlanta having cleared customs and immigration there so hopefully it will be a fairly simple process of collecting my bags and heading for the car rentals.
From memory it was a short walk to pick up the car (Dollar this time)and I thought the garaging was under cover but maybe it was just dark? Can anyone give me detailed driving details as I come out from the garaging? I will be heading east onto I10 towards Benson.

Neighborhoods in Tucson Posted: Sun September 7, 2008 10:46 AM UTC
Hi, I've been living (on and off) in Tucson for the past two years and I still can't find a reasonable area to rent a house/apartment in. I'm a full-time grad student and work part-time and currently live in an 1 bed-room apartment in the central NW. I want to be very close to the University and would prefer to upgrade to 2 bedroom house or guest house near the University and in a safe area, but everything seems outrageously priced. For those long term residents, I'd appreciate any advice. Ideally, I'd love a large guest house in the Sam Hughes area, but they seem impossible to find (oh, and I want to live alone). If you have recommendations for other areas that are safe and close to the U, I'd appreciate the insight. Also, if you know of anyone renting a reasonable guesthouse or house that sounds right please let me know or pass the word. Thanks!!

Areas near the UofA? Posted: Sun April 6, 2008 10:27 PM UTC
I am going to be in Tucson for a month conducting research at the University... unfortunatley I have to go alone because my husband will be tied up at work!
Having never been there, and having never travelled as a single female, I was wondering what you guys would recommend as the best areas to live that are within walking distance to campus?
I have a lead on one property that is just west of the university, between the campus and fourth avenue - would this be considered a safe area?
Thank you!

12 Months in Tucson Posted: Mon March 3, 2008 07:55 AM UTC
Hi everybody,
I’ll be moving with my family (Wife, 2 Childs (5 & 2 years)) sometime in the 3rd quarter 2008 to Tucson for 12 months assignment with IBM. It is my first time to US and would like to know what the best community/nigborhood to stay in. This includes, the distance to work, availability of schools, markets, restaurants and other major services. Also, what is the distance between Tucson downtown and IBM offices?
Thank you all

George L. Mountainlion's (#1) epitaph Posted: Thu February 28, 2008 02:34 PM UTC
Where can I find George L. Mountainlion's epitaph that was written on a huge vertical stone in the museum years ago? The words brought tears to my eyes and I would love to hear them again!
Thanks so much!

furnished apartment Posted: Fri February 15, 2008 08:48 PM UTC
I will be arriving with my family (my husband, my son, and me) in tucson March 15. I will be going to The University of Arizona for a few months. I searched online for suitable furnished apartments that are affordable and close to the university but so far I couldn't find anything. If it's within walking distance to the campus, it's some kind of student housing and is not suitable for a family. If it is, it's faraway.
Any suggestions??

Sights for walkers Posted: Sun February 10, 2008 03:34 PM UTC
How easy is it to walk around this city? How's the public transport.? Is it possible to get to any parks or sights other than museums? Thinking of here instead of Phoenix.

Hotels in Tucson for a weekend. Posted: Wed September 26, 2007 03:54 AM UTC
Hello, I've recently moved to Tucson (and Arizona as a whole) and am now a student here. My Fiance's birthday is coming up in Oct. and I'd like to get a hotel room for the night for him and I (as a surprise).
I want somewhere nice, but not too expensive since minimum wage doesn't exactly make you rich :/
I'm really looking for a place with a pool (indoor or outdoor, doesn't matter), whirlpool, rooms with 1 bed (king preferably), and for the room's bathroom to have a tub (shower-tub combos work fine).
I've tried browsing around online, but find it somewhat to be a pain, hence why I came here. Thank you for your help, I appreciate it :)

Douglas shuttle Posted: Fri August 24, 2007 01:17 PM UTC
Hi
My parents are staying in Tucson next March and are looking for transport to me us in Tombstone. I've heard there's a Douglas Super Shuttle that goes from Tucson to Douglas and stops in Tombstone. The phone number in various listings doesn't seem to have anyone who speaks English answering and my parents are trying to find out:
1. Where in Tucson does it go from?
2. What is the schedule (on a Sunday morning) and how long does it take?
3. How much it is?
4. Do they need to book or just turn up?
Can anyone help?
Thanks

We would like to rent a condo or house in a nice, safe area of the city with a good access to shoping, restaurants, and cultural facilities. We would appreciate suggestions as to where should we be looking.
Thanks.

Help with planning 9 days in the Tuscon area Posted: Wed January 24, 2007 09:27 PM UTC
Hi
I am traveling with my 11 year old son, who has respiratory issues but is doing ok, to the Tucson area from Feb 11-Feb 15, and on the 15 we will be joined by the rest of our family. Hubby, daughter 15 and son 9.
We were in beautiful Tuscon two years ago and did some of the stuff but didn't do everyting by far. We did Sabino Canyon( like four times b/c we heard it was good for respiratory issues--i love that place and think it's like a piece of Eden here on earth) Dessert Museum (which we loved just aren't sure if we should repeat) Mt Lemmon, the two national parks east and west (the name escapes me Saguaro?) almost made it down to Nogales but turned around b/c we were worried about the fumes from the cars and the general pollution for my son, Reid park Zoo (also loved it)explored the University area a bit.
We also went to Scottsdale to some trolly line set-up.
So you can see we didn't do alot.
We would like to do more this time but choose well
Could you perhaps give us some ideas about the following
1- What to do when I am on my own with my son? We will do Sabino, the butterfly exhibit at the B. Gardens so far.
What about horseback riding for someone who is nervous about it--it is good for his lungs so I want him to do this at least a couple of times while we are there.
2- What should we do as a family? We were thinking of getting in Pima for the boys while the girls go for a moderate spa experience--massage and nails. What is a good value--best service for least amount of money?
Kartchier Caverns State Park ( but heard mixed reviews about this)
Tombstone--area is it worth doing this for a day? how does old tucson studios fit in with this? Do both? Only one.
should we do the dessert museum again? will the kids find it too repetitive?
3- We will leave Tucson either on the 20 or 21st and try to fit in a Grand Canyon experience. We are leaving AZ on Feb 23. We could stay less time in Tucson to get a nice experience of AZ north of Phoenix. We want to do some GC experience, Sedona, Painted Dessert
Please advise as to how to construct our trip so that we can also have down time but also see new things and not to be missed sites.
Thanks alot for the help I already received to a previous post and to the help I will no doubt receive for this one. This is an awesome site with people who really love Tucson and it's nice to be in contact with all of you.

Residence Inn Tucson on East Speedway Blvd--has anyone stayed there? Posted: Tue January 23, 2007 12:03 PM UTC
Hi
The place sounds nice and looks nice but what is the neighborhood like? I will be there with my son alone and don't want to feel uncomfortable coming home if it's dark alone.
Also the only review I saw was someone with a beer can in his hand saying how the place was good b/c it was close to Hooters. Is this a party kind of place as opposed to a family place?
Also what other places can we stay at in Tuscan that have kitchen facilities? Not just a microwave and fridge.
Thanks in advance,
Atarah
