Juneau Juneau - end of August
Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 02:35 PM UTC
My partner and I'll be arriving in Juneau during the last week in August via Princess cruise ship. We will also be hitting the following destinations: Skagway, Tracy Arm and Ketchikan.

1) What clothing is appropriate to bring/wear for that time of year?
2) I'd like to take a city bus to the Mendhall glacier. What is the typical cost and where do we catch that bus in Juneau?

Thanks,
PJJim

Juneau Which Whale Watching Tour?
Posted: Mon April 21, 2008 09:16 PM UTC
I'm planning on taking the typical 3-hour whale watching trip with my husband, but I'm unsure of which companies are reputable, or even just better than the others.

Do you have opinions or experiences?

I love the idea of seeing other wildlife as well, but that's secondary.

Thanks

Juneau Mendenhall open hours and cab ride
Posted: Sat August 4, 2007 05:04 AM UTC
We're in a serious time crunch, our cruise arrives at 3, our excursion is 3:30 to 6:30pm. We'd love to take in Mendenhall (I think it may be light late in September) but don't know if we can make it. Cabs go there? How much? How long?

Also, is there ANY chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis that low down in the state?

Juneau Should I take a Whale Watching Tour even if I am taking an inside passage cruise by Princess Cruise?
Posted: Sun June 24, 2007 10:45 PM UTC
So, I am taking a round trip inside passage cruise from Seattle and return. Not sure I should take a shore excursion from Juneau for whale watching since I will be on a bigger boat (cruise line) anyway. The whale watching tour is expensive = more than $120. Will I see whale from Princess cruise or I really should take a smaller boat for it? Anyone can advise?

Juneau Juneau & Mendenhall Glacier
Posted: Mon April 23, 2007 11:54 PM UTC
The cruise ship is only in Juneau for 6 hours. Will spend some time seeing the city of Juneau and taking the Mount Roberts Tram. Does 6 hours also leave enough time to take the bus out to Mendenhall Glacier?

Juneau Juneau helicopter rides-worth the money?
Posted: Tue August 8, 2006 04:07 PM UTC
Hi-I am leaving soon for a cruise thru the inland passage. Someone told me not to miss the helicopter ride to the glacier at Juneaul. I looked it up and the minimum cost is $257 for 25 minutes on the glacier. If anyone has done this, please let me know your opinion of the trip. Was it worth the money? Thanks, Kay

Juneau Mt. Roberts Trail
Posted: Tue May 23, 2006 07:20 PM UTC
I have a little over 3 hours in the morning before my sightseeing bus tour to Mendenhall Glacier et. al. I wanted to hike up Mt. Roberts to the halfway point (at 1800 ft where the tram lets out) and then take the tram down.

Will I have time to do this? Does anyone know? I have been getting conflicting answers. I know I've read somewhere that the hike to the halfway point should take about an hour to an hour and a half but the Juneau Visitor's Center is saying 3 1/2 (I'm fairly sure I've read online that it should take 3-4 hours to get to the summit, and I don't want to go to the summit).

Anyone know?

I am already booked for day trip to Tracy Arm this summer. If I go to Tracy Arm, is it worth doing the day trip to Glacier Bay also ? Is the scenery much the same ? I'm asking b/c the cost of the Glacier Bay day trip is very high.

Juneau Tracy Arm Cruise from Juneau - Adventure Bound vs Goldbelt Tours(Spirit of Adventure)
Posted: Tue March 28, 2006 01:58 PM UTC
Does any one have an idea of what is the difference between the two one day cruises to Tracy Arm from Juneau?

One is by Adventure Bound ($120pp) the other one is by Goldbelt Tours ($147.5pp)
Please help us decide as to which one of them is better.
We would prefer the better one the one that goes closest to the glaciers(north & south sawyer glacier and also takes out time for wildlife.)
Thanks

Juneau Juneau and Around in April 3rd Week
Posted: Wed March 22, 2006 08:38 PM UTC
I am planning a short trip (3 days) to Alaska. Am planning to fly into Juneau and was wondering what kind of activities can i do in April, since most of the stuff opens in May. My top 3 things on list are:

1. Yukon railroad trip
2. Glacier bay national park (via ferry or boat with a an overnite stay)
3. Misty Fjords

Not really sure which of these are open in mid april. Any suggestions or comments on how to go about visiting these places? Thanks in advance.
