I plan to travel from Romania to Moldova in 2012.
One of my prime concerns is safety.Is it safe for westerners?What scams are going?

Hello all
I'm thinking about going from Iasi to Chisinau which i believe is about 3 hours by bus, but am also thinking about going on to Tiraspol while i am in this part of the world. Seems like a one off opportunity really. How much time would i need in both cities? Something tells me that 2 nights in each city might be a bit much. I will have to doubleback on my route too so i'm thinking about 1 night in Chisinau, then onto Tiraspol for 1 or 2 nights, then back to Chisinau, or keep going straight back to Iasi before pressing on.
Any thoughts on this?
Since i'm into old architecture, castles, military history and old communist type stuff then i assume i'll find plenty of what i'm looking for in the above cities...

Please could someone advise me whether it is possible to take public transport from Chisinau to Orhei Vechi monastery and be able to get back to Chisinau the same day? I would be grateful for any informaton to help me plan this trip.

When i searched possibility between Moldova and Romania i saw an option like this. Every day there are some voyages on this route.

But how much is cost for this voyage and how any time will take? When do i arrive Cluj ?i could not find any information about these.

Hey, I recently went to Moldova, and I am now back in the UK with £30gbp in moldavian leu, none of the banks will change it here. Ive been told I can only exchange the money in Moldova itself, do I have any other options?

I am from Kuwait. I like to visit Kishinev, Moldova. Is it possible to get a Moldovan VISA from Kiev(Ukraine) for Indian National? What will be the expense? How much time to process it? There is no Moldovan Embassy in Kuwait.

I plan to arrive in Moldova by airplane (from Timisoara), but leave by bus (to Iasi). I am wondering if, when I arrive at the Chisinau airport, if the officials will need to see an onward airplane ticket to let me in ? (many countries have such a regulation). I will have with me an airline ticket from Bucharest to Minsk, which should show that I am planning to leave Moldova in the near future, but maybe this is not enough ?

hey guys,
stupid I know, but I will only have a morning and early afternoon to explore Moldova while in Iasi on business in a week and a half.
I was told that there are a couple of villages on the other side of the border from Iasi. I thought just about taking a bus at 9.45am in the direction of Chisnau and getting off somewhere along the way but not more than an hour or so into Moldova so I can get back for a late afternoon meeting.
I wanted to walk around in a village, maybe have a beer/coffee, take some pictures and then head back. Simple, easy, it does not need to be a great place I visit.
Please help!

According to Lonely Planet, crossing into Transdnistria at the Grigoriopol crossing is pretty good - that is, you probably don't have to pay bribes, and don't get held up for hours while they question you. Does anyone have any experience making this crossing, and if so, what was your experience ?

I am looking at visiting Bucharest, Chisanau and Kiev in November and want to get the overnight sleeper to each.
I can find train times easily enough but I cannot find prices of tickets or where I can buy these from.
Can anybody help?

Hi all,
I am living in Ireland, but from Chisinau. I havent been back home in 6 or 7 years, so i decided to save some money and fly over for 2 weeks during the christmas hols from college. I was wondering if anyone else is going around that time that could use some company or a handy translator. Just a spontanious thought!!
