Chisinau to Kiev options Posted: Tue April 28, 2009 06:06 PM UTC
I'm travelling to Moldova and Ukraine in June and had planned to travel from Chisinau to Lviv where my flight home left from. Unfortunately Wizz Air have just cancelled the routing from Lviv to UK.I've been offered a flight from Kiev but wondered what my options are to get there from Chisinau. I would prefer overnight train rather than bus if possible. Any help appreciated.

Maxitaxi Schedule Iasi-Chisinau? Posted: Wed April 1, 2009 10:50 PM UTC
Hi,
does anyone know when exactly the maxitaxis leave from Iasi in the morning? There's no reliable info online. According to my research they can be found at the Billa station near the train station in Iasi. How much is a one-way trip?
Also, how much are trolleybus tickets in Chisinau?
Thanks a bunch!

Picture Request Posted: Sun March 29, 2009 11:12 PM UTC
I am looking for pictures of a street in Kishinev. It used to be called Frunze Street, and I believe now it's "Piata D.Cantemir". If anyone has any pictures, or if any locals could take some for me, I would really appreciate it :).
I am especially interested in the buildings in and around this street.
Email or post can be arranged.
Thanks :)

Moldovian meeting point??? Posted: Thu October 2, 2008 11:40 AM UTC
Hello,
I was wondering where I could make friends with moldovian people? I know that lot's of countries have their own 'facebooks'. Is there one in Moldova? I just wanted to register and talk to the people, before I go to travel to Moldova. I am planning a trip, but I would like to go to the country I know, I know someone, so that they can show me around and etc. Can anyone help me in finding the site where Moldovian people communicate, chat, make friends....
Many thanks,

Entry requirements/tourist visa Posted: Sun August 24, 2008 03:29 PM UTC
Hello all,
I'm sure this question has been asked and answered already here so apologies if this is an annoyance. I was just wondering if a visa was necessary on entry to Moldova. I am an EU citizen (Irish) and was hoping to get the visa on arrival at the border with the Ukraine.
From what little research I have done, I have read something about having to get a letter of invitation, as well as a visa...
It would be great to hear from someone in similar circumstances to me and who has managed to get into Moldova.
Thanks in advance,
Colm

Video Shoot - Need to visit 6 different locations in Romania and Moldova - how? Posted: Wed August 6, 2008 03:04 PM UTC
Dear fellow travellers
I work for a charity and I have to visit the following locations in Romania and Moldova in Nov 2008 to shoot a video/photo's etc. Have to go to the following locations:-
UK to Sighisoara to Brasov to Bucharest (Romania) then cross the border into Moldova and visit Dancu, Chisinau and Cosnita. I realise this is madness but wonder if its possible. I have heard there are flights into Sighisoara from the UK and I presume its train to all the other locations?
Does anyone have any idea of the best way of doing this? As its for a charity costs have got to stay low but safety is of course paramount.
Any ideas would be gratefully recieved as I haven't got the first clue
Many thanks

The muslims here must eat somewhere so I would be very grateful if I could receive any useful help asap (I am going to Chisinau on Wednesday!)

Taxi drivers and Techno Clubs Posted: Thu July 10, 2008 09:29 AM UTC
Hi dear VTs,
what were your experiences with the taxi drivers in Chisinau? Are they reliable, do they use a taxameter?
And (although that I have not much hope), does anybody know if there are clubs with Techno or other electronic music?
Thanks in advance for everyone's advice

Regular questions for potential first time visit.... Posted: Tue July 1, 2008 06:19 PM UTC
Hello all
The thought of visiting Moldova is very interesting for me. I've been giving it loads of thought recently.
Tell me, is there a visa required for me to visit? I am from Ireland. I would probably be arriving from Romania so i am interested in where the border crossings are. Is it possible to get across the border by train?
Aside from Chisinau, what other towns or cities are worth visiting?
I have heard about this place Transdniestr. Ok, so this place isn't officially recognised. I saw it featured briefly on Michael Palins travel show (really crap series wasn't it) so i decided to look into it a bit more. Sounds interesting but a bit scary. I don't know if i would get away with taking many pics there from what i have read online. Is a visa required there for me?
If i want to move onto Odessa, is it possible to get a train? Or would i have to go through the nightmare of arguing with non english speaking border guards?
Better brush up on my cryillic now i think
Thanks everyone :)

Near Bessarabka Moldova Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 06:46 PM UTC
My wife and I (in our 60's but young at heart, active, and adventurous) are planning a trip next May to Kalachivka, Petrivs'k, and Maloiaroclavets' Pershyi (all in Ukraine) to see where her mother came from. They are very small villages, northwest of Odessa, near the Moldova border. The nearest somewhat larger towns are Tarutyne, Ukraine and Bessarabka, Moldova.
Arrangements for much of the trip will be with a group that organizes trips for people of Beassarabian ancestry and we will likely have an interpreter/driver. They are looking into the possibility of arranging a short homestay for us.
However, we're usually totally independent travellers, so are interested in finding out some things on our own.
Is it possible to cross the Ukraine/Moldova border at Bessarabka? Are there anything we should see/do in Moldova nearby while we are there?
What are some of the cultural things we should be aware of (do's and don't's)?
Any thoughts, advice, etc. about any of it will be highly appreciated.

from Lviv to Soroca? Any suggestion of something to visit in Northern Moldova? Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 08:43 PM UTC
Hi, would anyone could tell me the best way to go from Lviv (Ukraine) to Soroca? I see that the train doesn't go there so I don't know if I can get off in the train which makes Lvov-Chisinau and then take a bus somewhere
I'd like to see something in Northern Moldova since the trip from Lviv to Chisinau is really long and I prefer not to waste a whole day in the train.
Thanks

Getting to Transnistria Posted: Sun March 23, 2008 11:02 AM UTC
Hi,
Can anybody tell me if trains and buses to Transnistria are currently running? If so, what is the best way to get from Chisinau to Tiraspol and then on to Odesa? Also should I expect to pay any 'extras' for entering and exiting the region?
Many thanks,
