I am going to Malta for the first time next week and I will be staying in Qawra. I am looking into getting tickets for Hypogeum on-line, but I am not sure how long does it make to get from Qawra to Hypogeum, or even what buses to get.
Is it possible to find out, as I don't want to book tickets and not get there on time.
Me and my wife are would like to visit Malta in early January 2010. We are mid thirties and like it lively (ish). We fully appreciate that it is off season, but this is the time due to work commitments. Can any one suggest a decent place for this time of year. And is it warm? We quite fancy a spa. But we are easily pleased.
Thanks
I planned a trip between 28th of December 2009 and 2nd of January 2010.
I will be traveling with my husband and my two sons, aged 4 and 7.
Does anybody have some specific recommendations for us during this period of year.
Thanks a lot!
After a holiday in Malta, I now want to buy more honey from Gozo. I live in London. Is there a retailer on Gozo that will send me honey or a website to do this?
Unfortunately my guide is capable of being misunderstood, because it states opening hours concerning St. John's Co Cathedral (Monday-friday 9:30-12:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. and 9:30-12:30 a.m. on saturdays). I'm unsure, wether this opening hours are just for the associated museum or also for the cathedral and the oratorio itself.
May I visit the church (not the museum) on sundays?
I am totally lost trying to find out the correct public busses I need to use during my Malta visit using http://www.atp.com.mt.
Are there really no busses from Sliema to Ta'Qali (National stadium) after 05:30 p.m.? I planned to visit a match of BOV-League match starting at 7:30 p.m., so how can get there and back to Sliema?
Is it correct that I can use either Bus Nr. 1, 2, 4 or 6 to go from Valetta to Vittoriosa? Isn't there a direct route from Sliema to Vittoriosa?
What are the operating hours of the ferry Sliema-Valetta and vice versa?
Which bus I should take from the airport to Sliema?
Usually I easily get along with maps, etc. But in this case I'm totally confused after printing the bus schedules, as I do not get the difference between Winter Bus routes and summer bus routes, direct bus routes (and normal one's), direct services and nicht services.... Additionally I can't believe that the busses are really end their service that early....
please can anyone tell me how the prices are there and if we can pay by euro or is it still with maltese money (LM)
we are going to st. pauls bay.
i hope someone can help us with this.
Hello all,
I am thinking of relocating to Malta to pursue a relatively new master course (MSc in the Science of Performative Creativity) with the University of Malta. Does anyone know anything about the course or university there. The faculty seem really nice and they tell me that the third semester is in La Sapienza University, Rome.
Also, what is life like in Malta - cheap, expensive, fun, quiet? I like sport, culture, food and philosophy. Having a good time of course too! I would have to track down accommodation and commit to living there for most of two years. I am thinking a job could fund my time in Malta as there is a considerable amount of English and I have no Maltese!
Would be grateful for any advice as time is against me for entering this
October.
Cheers...
I know it is possible to get to Blue Grotto from Valletta by buses 38 and 138. But when should I get off a bus ? Is it better to ask the driver to stop as near to Blue Grotto as possible ?
Hi. I am heading to Malta in about 3 days, but as my plain arrives in the morning and my host in Malta will only be at home at night, I would need a place to leave my backpack, some lockers. I have made a search in internet I cant't find any info regarding that. Does anyone knows if in the airport, or bus station (preferably) I can find some of those. Thanks in advance for the info !
Well we sorted-out my son's honeymoon in a recent post in the misc forum - and they are off to Malta (Qawra) next May.
A friend wants to give them some Euros for a trip and we thought about recommending an organised trip to Gozo.
When we were there ourselves we took a trip organised by our resort rep which was fantastic.
My son would like to do the same - a trip by bus, ferry , bus to see the Azur Window, Victoria, Xlendi etc etc.
Does anyone know the best way to find such a trip? They won't have the usual holiday rep this time. Possibly a shop or agent in the resort?
I'm flying to Malta on hols for a week tomorrow evening for the first time - can't wait.
What I wanted to check was how much a taxi from the airport to Qawra is likely to cost, and how much we could expect to pay at the airport for a hire car for a week (ford focus size). I would probably rather get a taxi and then use the bus service to get around, so we can enjoy a nice lunch and bottle whilst out ;). However if car hire is going to prove cheaper then it might be worth looking into.
Also, any red hot tips for places to go and visit, please feel free to let me know. I'm considering Valletta, and Gozo and possibly some other places whilst we are there.
The last time I was in Europe I brought home a bottle of Cinnamon and Clove flavor liquore (Tentura)and loved it. I have been unable to get it here in the U.S. I will be going to Europe again soon and would love to bring home a few more bottles. Does anyone know if I can buy this in Valletta? Thanks, Irv
I am planning on visiting Malta in May next year with my husband we are currently looking at renting a self catering villa/apartment but are unsure of where to stay and also if we should hire a car to see the island or just use the buses?
Current resort options are:
Sliema, Qawra, Msida and Mellieha.
I belive in Msida we would need a car and also that it's very much out of the way, is it worth considering for a holiday or not?
We would only be able to have one week in Malta and have previously stayed in places like Sienna (Tuscany) and Sorrento (Neopolitan Riviera) we have also driven in Italy so are used to crazy driving experiences. Does anyone have any advice which resort would suit us best?
Hi, Im new to this forum today but have been really interested to read peoples views on Malta as im getting married there in september. We are staying in qawra at the dolmen resort hotel, we have a 2.5 year old daughter and another 11 family members are staying there also. 5 weeks to go and im getting nervous espcially after reading some awful reviews about malta, the resort, the hotel, the dog poo apparently everywhere. Im really hoping someone can give us some reasurance and maybe some tips of what we can do when we get there, places to visit etc. We are hoping to go diving as our wedding present to each other and maybe swim with dolphins. apart from that we are hoping to see some really nice sites aswell as entertain our lively daughter.
any advice or reasurance gladly accepted but please no horror stories i dont think i could take the stress lol
Hello!
I am planning a trip to Malta and am thinking of staying in Sliema but have read that I may need to journey to Valletta in order to get buses to elsewhere on the island. Does anybody know approximately how long the bus trip from Sliema to Valletta takes? I've looked on the ATP website but all I can find is how often they leave, not how long they take. I appreciate that it will differ due to traffic etc, but if anyone knows an average time that would be really helpful! It may mean the difference between staying in Sliema and staying in Valletta.
I have got some questions about Grand Harbour cruises: Which operators are recommandable for these? And when do they start, how long does a tour take? Do they all start in Sliema? And finally: Is it more advisable to do a cruise a.m. or p.m. for photography reasons (eg. back lighting due to sun, etc).
I'll visit Malta next October and I'll be reliant to public busses. I'll stay in Sliema. Because it is necessary to make a reservation for visitng the Hypogeum and to specify the visitng hour, I need to make a timetable of my second day in Malta.
So here is my rough plan: Early in the morning (after taking my breakfast) I want to make a Grand Harbour boat-tour. When will these tours start and how long do they take? Are there tours starting in Sliema and ending in Valletta (because of the bus connection to Hypogeum)? Or will it be necessary to take the ferry from Sliema to Valletta after the tour to catch a bus to Hypogeum?
After that I'll visit Hypogeum. So here is the crucial question: How late it'll be, when I'll arrive at Hypogeum? How long will the public bus take from Valletta to Hypogeum? (BTW: Which Bus should I take?)
After that I'd like to visit Tarxien temples, Marsaxlokk and Vittoriosa. Is this too much for one day (I'm in good condiotion but reliant to public busses as mentioned). Or do you even see a change to do Mdina too?
Me and my family will be visting malta for are first time only for one day I am very interestend in visting fort St.Angelo and Fort Rinella I need details on this price, do u have to take a boat, recomendations>>???? would be greatly appreciated
Which Maltese site you'd recommend as basis for locational tours around the island and Gozo?
I'll visit Malta in late October for about 4 days. I am planning to visit Valetta's old town, Gozo and Hal Saflieni Hypogeum for sure and every other site, I'm able to do...
btw: I'd prefer to stay somewhere, where I can go out at night and not in the middle of nowhere. Please keep in mind, that the bathing season will be over...
just need a bit of advise if anyone can help regarding eating out prices
i have a choice between a HB deal for 273gbp each or a BB deal at 236gbp each at the same hotel so the question is can we eat out ( and maybe cook a couple of nights in the apartment) for less than 40 gbp each - or are we better paying for HB and at least we know we will get fed
the hotel is in Qawra but i suppose Bugibba is a possibility too ( as i believe its one big expanse from one to the other
Going to Malta in September, hesitating to rent a car for part of my staying. Why? Because every damn touristic guide I pick mention awfull thinbgs about driving in Malta. And I will have an extra problem, which is driving by left, not what I'm used to. Question: is the situation improving in this regards? Are these guides too pessimistic? Sometimes I read silly things about my own country, Portugal, which I consider totally unfair... so I would like to read personal accounts about driving in Malta :-)
Please can you give me the number of the bus leading us from Malta Airport to Saint Julians or Hotel Cavalieri Spinola Road? Where is the busstop at Airport and at St Julians. Thank you for your answer.

I'm in the early stage of my holiday plannings for next year (10 days in March or early April). At the moment, my favourite destination will be Malta.
What do you think, is it a good time? I'm thinking of spending as much time as possible outside -- is Malta a good place for hiking?
Does anyone now a nice (and not too expensive) breakfast hotel?
