| Belgrade | A bit of concern about Serbia Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 01:45 AM UTC
I was reading horror stories on the "bootsnall" site about the train from Sofia to Belgrade of drunks, thugs, con men, and hassles. a nightmare journey is this true? also they mention the prices advertised for Hostels were for locals only and foreighners must pay 5 times the posted price.

| Belgrade | Safety in Eurovision week? Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 11:41 PM UTC
Hi,
I've got fed up with the scare-mongering on Eurovision fan forums and thought I'd come and ask here in the hope that any Serbians can provide me with a bit of clarity! There are rumours circulating that there are Neo-nazi groups who are going to try to cause problems in Belgrade during the Eurovision week, some rumours even going as far as echoing death-threats. I'm also aware of the guarantee of safety that the Serbian President has issued. I believe that most of these rumours have been started by groups in Serbia that have something to gain from the fear that some people have due to the rumours. However, what is the feeling like in Serbia itself? Have these threats actually been made and what is the feeling of Serbian's towards this? I'm really looking forward to visiting Belgrade in just under three weeks and will be wary of my safety as with all foreign cities I visit, but it would just be nice to have a local view on the subject. I just wish people would give Belgrade and Serbia a fair chance to impress Europe, without putting hurdles in your way all the time! Also, I am due to stay in Hotel Slavija A, which I am led to believe has recently been renovated. Can anyone tell me what this hotel is like now and if the renovations have made much of a difference. Thanks in advance for any replies you can give, Colin |

| Belgrade | Orangeways Buses Posted: Thu April 17, 2008 12:24 PM UTC
Does anyone have any experience of this company? Are they reliable?
I ask because I will be in Belgrade next month on a Friday for a meeting, but my flight home is from Budapest the next morning (10 am). I have found an overnight bus that is due to arrive in Budapest at 5am - do you think I will be safe getting this bus, or is there a chance of long delays/cancellations etc? I know that there are airport shuttle buses from Belgrade to Budapest, however I have a friend in Budapest and if I get the regular Orangeways service we were planning to meet for breakfast in the city before she would take me to the airport for my departure. |

| Belgrade | Belgrade with a baby Posted: Thu February 28, 2008 12:08 PM UTC
I'm off to Belgrade with my wife and daughter in 3 weeks. We have booked an apartment right in the centre (Obilicev Venac) and are going for 4 nights.
Things are a bit tense over there (which is understandable after the various western countries have gone against international law to chop Serbia up) so does anyone have any advice for Brits over there? Can we expect any hassle? Also, where are good places to go and to eat with a baby? I want to go and see the Red Star and Partizan stadiums (not when a match is on!) and Tito's mausoleum. Is this wise and what is the best way to get there from the centre? Thanks in advance. |

| Belgrade | current situation Posted: Thu February 21, 2008 09:21 AM UTC
i planned to fly to belgrade in 2 weeks for a few days to meet my serbian friends and to learn more of the serbian language. i definitely want to do this trip but i'm a little bit afraid of getting in danger because of my nationality (germany already accepted kosovo as a state). what do you think, especially the locals, if i'm not politically involved in anything concerning the status of kosovo, will i have a great time in belgrade as i used to have it last year or could it be dangerous if some people realize that i'm german? i'm only asking because of violent demonstrations that happened some days ago. i really can't believe that i will get in danger cause i remember the serbs as very friendly and open people. well, it would be great to hear what you think about my worries!

| Belgrade | Belgrade to Pecs?? Posted: Thu December 13, 2007 06:37 AM UTC
I've been trying to find out about getting from Belgrade to Pecs, Hungary. It's not far on the map, but so far all my research has told me that I'll have to go all the way to Budapest, and then backtrack to Pecs. Does anyone know of a bus that might make a more direct journey?
Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I have a friend that lives in Pecs...and I'd love to stop in and see her as part of my journey. Matt |

| Belgrade | Train from Belgrade to Podgorica Posted: Mon October 22, 2007 06:59 PM UTC
I am planning to travel by train from Belgrade to Podgorica on the 4th November. The train leaves belgrade at 1010 and arrives at Podgorica at 1740.
I understand the scenery is very beautiful on this journey, however, I am worried because of the lack of daylight we will miss much of it. Is this the case and would I be better off catching an overnight train? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

Planning on coming to Belgrade for 4 days in December 11-14th had some questions… If you could help! Lol
1) Taking train on the 11th from Budapest – How hard is it to get a round trip ticket in Budapest – Belgrade? Can I do it on the 7th when I arrive in Budapest? How much is it? 2) What hotel would you suggest staying in? I want to be very close to the discos and have my belonging secure in my room – medium price? 3) How much do thing cost – BEER – Dinner – Coffee ? Is pricing comparable to Budapest? 4) Do they have like a Christmas bizarre? How expensive are gifts? 5) Are there any good Trance concerts at this time? Or what about symphony? 6) How do you dress for the clubs here? And are they in full swing in December? 7) How cold should I expect it to be? 8) If I wanted to bring some gifts from the usa, what would be appreciated? 9) What are must do things to do in the winter there? 10) SNOWBOARDING anywhere near? Thank you so much, DJ MINK |

| Belgrade | how do i get from london to belgrade cheaply Posted: Tue October 2, 2007 01:15 AM UTC
Hi, we are a rock band and need to get from London to Belgrade as cheaply as possible in January 2008. It seems that flights to Belgrade are quite expensive. Are there any cheap/low fare airlines that go to other airports/cities that are in reasonable distance from Belgrade (about 4 hours drive)?
Thanks! Zuri |

Hi,
Just wondering how I can book trains online for Serbia, Montenegro and Bulgaria? I looked at the Serbian railways site but can't see any way to book online (maybe I've missed it) and I've found 2 e-mail addresses where people say you can e-mail about train tickets but I've got no reply from either. The tickets I'd like to book are Belgrade - Bar (sleeper) Podgorica - Belgrade - Sofia (sleeper to Sofia) thanks Welys |

| Belgrade | bars or cafes within walking distance of Belgrade Posted: Mon September 17, 2007 04:20 AM UTC
I will be in Belgrade on Sept 20, staying at the "Intercontinental" Hotel (Vladimira Popovia 10). I will be able to see some sights of the city as part of a tour but I was wondering if there are any good places near this hotel to get a drink, meal, or coffee. I have not been able to find much travel info on this part of my trip and I'll only be there a short time and I do not expect to be too adventurous because I only speak English and tend to get lost, but I would like to at least explore a bit on my own. Thanks.

| Belgrade | Football fans (Rangers) - Where to go, What to do, etc etc Posted: Fri August 17, 2007 08:36 PM UTC
Hi Everyone,
Im coming over with several friends for a football match involving Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) v Rangers. just wondering where to go for beers (pubs/clubs etc??) Also, being as football fan, my most important question is............ how much for a beer?!! I arrive around midnight (only staying 2 nights) on the first night. Is there anywhere still open at that time on a Monday? there is a mixture of friends coming over with various ages (21-60) so we would like to go to places where there is a good mix. i.e preferably pubs rather than clubs. Having never been to Serbia, i understand that the Dinar is the local currency but that is unavailable to exchange in the UK, so would Euros do until i reached an ATM or exchanged my pounds in Dinars? Also, how much for a taxi from Airport to city centre?. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks |

I understood it would be wise to use taxies instead of buses, so what does it cost from airport to city by taxi? How long it takes? Should I negotiate about the price, or do they use taxi-meters there?

| Belgrade | Beli Dvor and Tito's Memorial - Can they be visited? Posted: Sat August 11, 2007 08:20 PM UTC
Hi,
I have some doubts whether to go to those two places that are somewhat distant from the city centre of Belgrade. How are they like? I suppose the Beli Dvor residence cannot be visited inside, but can one walk around the gardens or so, or is it all private grounds? And what about Kuca Cveca? I read somewhere that it is open only in the morning, but I could not see any actual opening hours. Any information will be highly appreciated. Best, Venelin |
