I'm traveling to Odessa in August and want to know if I should stay on Deribasovskaya in Odessa, or stay closer to the beach in Arkadiya? I'm looking for a safe, lively nightlife where you can spend hours pub crawling and meeting locals. Thanks. John.

I am looking for any information on a painter from Odessa named Sarkis Ordyan. Sarkis Ordyan was born on December 20, 1918 in village of Aigedzor in Armenia. He was married to Arevhat Grigoryan and had two children, Rafik and Anahit Ordyan. Sarkis died in 2003 in Odessa, we assume he is buried there.

After leaving from Armenia, Sarkis lived a few years in Moldova before moving to Odessa. Sarkis became known as the lonely painter.

I have heard that there was also a documentary about him in the Ukrain in recent years, if anybody has information on this please share it with us.

Also if you have any suggestions who in Odessa might know more please give us their contact info.

I am a business man travelling to Odessa and Ukraine for the first time. Would
like some help from VT friends to find a nice hotel with a dancing floor and
also some company for the evening. To sweat it out, have a good night's rest and be ready for the next day meetings. I will be there between Nov. 25th to Dec. 15th for three to four days. What is the weather like? Risk factor outside

I have been to Odessa in summer 2005 and experienced that it was no problem to organize a homestay for a couple of days, since people were waiting at the train station offering rooms. I am coming back to Odessa in the middle of November, together with my fiancé, and I would very much like to to it the same way again? Does anyone know, if people are offering rooms in their homes during winter time as well or is this rather a summer specific thing? Would I meet people at the train station, offering rooms?
What do you think? I speak some Russian, so communication should not be a problem...

I'm looking for a centrally located hotel in Odessa, with a reasonably fast in-room internet connection, preferably wireless. This doesn't seem to be too easy to find - so far the Frapolli Hotel seems like the best choice, but has anyone got any other suggestions....?

I am trying to find out if the Odessa Philharmonic is playing while I'll be there. Can anyone find out their schedule for me from 1 Oct. to 15 October where I can plan my visit there. (I'll most probably be in Odessa (Oct. 5-7) I'd like to know the program as well. I have been to their website and the schedule is not listed. Their email doesn't work, and I have sent several emails to travel agencies in Odessa with no response.

I am interested in the same info for the opera, but the symphony is the most important to me.

1. How can I get from Odessa to Romania? All means of transport that you know: ferryboat, train and bus, their schedule and price, if it happens you know all these.

2. Do you know if an English citizan needs a visa for Ukraine and/or Republic of Moldavia?
I'm asking this questions because the way to Romania crosses the Republic of Moldavia.

I was searching for couple hours about the ferrie/catamaran/ships routes from Odessa to Yalta. I found these Istambul, Varna ferries(and how it was in 1996, 2002,2003). What about smaller ships? What are the prices(now, 2006 summer)? Please, name couple small private companies witch float passengers. Thank you.

Hi, I am traveling to Odessa early September. I am looking on the best/cheapest way to get from Odessa To Budapest - i.e - train, air, water ways. If you recommend a train, please let me know if it is safe. Also, is it better to purchase tickets from US or directly in Odessa.

My accommodation is already sorted so I'm looking more at prices in pubs/restaraunts and that kind of thing. In other words, how much spending money would see me right for a two-week comfortable stay?

I'm a 29 year old guy studying Russian in Odessa for the summer in order to prepare for my move to Moscow in the Fall. I arrived here the other day and love the city but there seem to be a lot less foreigners in the city that speak English than I had expected. And right now my Russian is too poor to talk with most locals... So if anyone is planning on being in the city this summer and wants a buddy to go out with, email me. I'm generally a pretty cool and fun guy who enjoys going out.

Also, if anyone else out there has advice about how to meet locals who speak a little bit of English and are willing to put up with my rudimentary Russian, let me know.

I was wondering if anyone could help me.

I will be travelling with my wife to Odessa from August 5th to August 20th.

Instead of staying at a "normal hotel", which I do about half of the year -being a business traveller - we would like to stay in a private apartment with 1 bedroom (bed for couple, please), 1 kitchen and 1 bathroom, preferably in the Tairovo area.

Can anyone help us? We would like to pay around 300/400 euros maximum.

I am wondering if I can triple this month long traveling experience by teaching English in the city. Does anyone know of some good schools in Odessa that could use my teaching talents? I am not a teacher of English but I do teach English here in the states, I teach computer aided design/industrial design at the university and high school levels but could handle such a position too. I am also professional drummer, doing all reggae and Brazilian music here in Philly ...so I will be in search of music of any kind. I am also looking for a place to stay for the month and would maybe like a home stay opportunity. Can I trust such a meeting at the airport at high season? Another question ...a month in Odessa and the region ...is that too much time in this area? We are planning a trip to the ukraine (and offcourse Odessa).
I have been reading about camping Delfin it should be somewhere near arkadia.
Does somebody know this place, is it possible to camp there with a small tent and what is does that cost ?
Is this campsite close to a beach where it is possible to get brown without tan lines ? We would like to hear from someone, maybe they have some other suggestions ?
