I will be visiting Odessa for one day in September (on a cruise) and am curious if the sights in Odessa are within walking distance from the seaport? I prefer to visit on my own, preferring to avoid taxis, buses and the cruiseline excursions. Any help would be appreciated!

Posted: Sat March 24, 2007 02:25 PM UTC
I'm wanting to travel from Kiev to Odessa on the 26th of May and then from Odessa to L'viv on the 29th of May 2007.

Can someone let me know the train times from Kiev to Odessa for the 26th and the train time from odessa to L'viv on the 29th of May?

Prefer direct trains if there is a choice. Also, will I have to book in advance to secure a seat and if so how long in advance?

Thanks

Odessa Looking for information on Sarkis Ordyan, Odessa's "LonelyPainter"
Posted: Fri December 22, 2006 08:13 PM UTC
Hello,

I am looking for any information on a painter from Odessa named Sarkis Ordyan. Sarkis Ordyan was born on December 20, 1918 in village of Aigedzor in Armenia. He was married to Arevhat Grigoryan and had two children, Rafik and Anahit Ordyan. Sarkis died in 2003 in Odessa, we assume he is buried there.

After leaving from Armenia, Sarkis lived a few years in Moldova before moving to Odessa. Sarkis became known as the lonely painter.

I have heard that there was also a documentary about him in the Ukrain in recent years, if anybody has information on this please share it with us.

Also if you have any suggestions who in Odessa might know more please give us their contact info.

Thank you in advance.

Hovaness Avedyan

Odessa Nice Hotel with a Dancing Floor and some Company for The Evening
Posted: Thu November 9, 2006 06:25 PM UTC
I am a business man travelling to Odessa and Ukraine for the first time. Would
like some help from VT friends to find a nice hotel with a dancing floor and
also some company for the evening. To sweat it out, have a good night's rest and be ready for the next day meetings. I will be there between Nov. 25th to Dec. 15th for three to four days. What is the weather like? Risk factor outside
the hotel? Please be specific.
