Getting from Holguin or Havana to Kingston. Posted: Sat May 10, 2008 12:41 AM UTC
Hi everyone.
My girlfriend and I are going to Guardalavaca Holguin for two weeks in June and would love to visit Kingston Jamaica, even for just a day or so whilst we are there and wondered if anyone has done this trip and could help us out with any advice on the best way to do it.
We are going to Havana for a few days and I am guessing that is a better starting point than Holguin as we can't seem to find anything on the web which departs from and returns to Holguin.
Thanks.
Chris.

We are staying in Santiago Atilan for a couple of nights in Hotel Bambu, and I was wondering if anyone knew about great activities, i.e. fishing, hiking, or any other outdoor activity. Thank you, I greatly appreciate it.

Driving directions to avoid San Jose? Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 02:52 AM UTC
This is our 3rd trip to Costa Rica. Our previous trips we took the bus everywhere. We decided to chance it and rent a vehicle this time. We will arrive at Juan Santamaria Airport in Alajuela and drive to Puerto Viejo. Can we avoid San Jose? How about the best route from PV to Arenal?

visiting Constanza in June Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 12:09 AM UTC
Hi- I;ll be visiting Constanza in June and wondered what there might be to do there- at night and during the day. I want a little relaxation- but not too much.. some partying wouldn;t be too bad. Not sure what it's got going on , as little is written about it, but from all the reports I hear from other travellers- I really shouldn;t miss going there for a few days.... thanks Mike

Places to go June22- August 2 Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 04:07 PM UTC
I really want to see as much of Costa Rica I can while I am there for six weeks. I will be in class/volunteering for 4 hours each day and then the weekends I have completely free. I will be in Heredia for 4 weeks as well as Coronado for two weeks. I am wanting, however, to go to many more cities than just those if possible by taxi/etc. What sites do you recommend I try to see? Restaurants? Night Activities? Wildlife? I am up for anything and am trying to plan my weekends/weekday nights there. Thanks so much!

Coronado Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 04:03 PM UTC
I will be in Coronado for two weeks (June 22- July 5) going to the college there. Is there anything around this area that I could do while I'm not in classes? I'm only in classes for 4 hours a day and I try to find things on-line, but there is not much information that I have found. What is around the area? Any help would be great!

Costa Rica weather in June? What is the best (least rain) beach?? Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 11:13 PM UTC
Need some advice.
I will be in Costa Rica for a week in mide June. I fly in and out of San Jose but will only spend two nights there.
I am looking to spend a few relaxing days on a beautiful beach, perhaps see some wildlife too..
I understand June is in the "rainy season" : (
What beach in Costa Rica will have the least amount of rain and the most hours of sun in Costa Rica?
I want to relax on a beach and get a nice suntan and not be miserable with rainy weather all week!!
Where is the driest and most scenic place in CR during mid June?
I quite like the sound of Quepos/Manuel Antonio.. but will it rain the whole time I am there in June??
Any recommendations / suggestions?

Single Lady Needs Info On Panama City Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 09:46 PM UTC
I am a very active middle aged single lady traveling alone to visit friends in Boquete, Panama in the end of July.I will fly into Panama City and then take a puddle jumper to Boquete. I have been to Panama once before on a cruise and toured the Panama canal area so I am not interested in seeing that again. I thought that I would stay in Panama City a day or two before moving on to Boquete. My questions are:
What are must see sites in Panama City?
Is one full day in Panama City enough or should I plan on spending 2 full days?
I am looking for a nice hotel around $100 per night if possible that is in a safe area where I can walk around in the evening after dinner by myself. I want to be where there is some night life. Any suggestions?

We will be taking a cruise at the end of May and one of their stops is Santa Barbara de Samana. I've looked at other forums and from what I gathered transportation can be costly. We're not sure where we want to go yet either! We are sure we would like to go to a beach but not sure the closest and/or nicest. Can anyone give some advice (thanks in advance!!)

traveling to tambor with teens Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 12:39 PM UTC
We have booked a trip to barcelo tambor resort in mid july with 3 other families including 12 teenagers (13-15). Although some of us have traveled to playa melia, we are un-familiar with what is close by tambor as well as the best travel options from san jose to the resort. We are considering renting cars to explore on the journey, but I am reading that may not be a great idea. It would appear the roads are pretty bad in this area from what I am reading. Since we have an army of children, we do want to be sure to have plenty for them to do.
it looks like Jaco is a boat ride away, has anyone been there from tambor? is it worth the time?

Identifying a volcano Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 12:08 AM UTC
Does anyone know...if you're flying from Los Angeles to Guatemala City, what is the name of the volcanic peak you'll see from the air a few minutes before landing?
I have a clear memory of having seen one, but don't know what it was called.
This is research for a book. Thanks--

First trip questions Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 11:07 PM UTC
We are considering an extended holiday in Panama next winter (Canadian winter) and are doing preliminary research now. Being young-ish retirees, we are not too interested in the party or surf scene, but do want to choose a couple of regions to base ourselves for several weeks at a time and enjoy day trips to explore the natural beauties (we love to hike, beach, explore etc). We usually choose ocean regions if we can. We will be seeking reasonable self catering accommodations, usually apartments or small villas.
So my question to anyone familiar with Panama, which of these areas would you recommend we use as bases: Gorgona /Coronada; Portobelo; Bocas del Toro or are there others which might offer reasonable amenities and access. How much of a factor is weather in the January to March period?
I am also searching VT tips for self catering accommodations but would welcome personal recommendations.
Thanks for any advice.

Running Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 08:00 PM UTC
This might sound a little odd but I am a runner and am planning on taking my running shoes on holiday for a little early morning easy running.
I have never been to cuba and wondered whether it would be safe for a lone female to run off the complex or whether I will have to be content with running laps of the hotel where I am staying, The Blau Costa Verde?
If anyone could offer any insight that would be most appreciated.
Thanks

Itinerary Help Please! Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 04:51 PM UTC
Hi,
my boyfriend and I are going to Costa from the 7th of June until the 21st.
We are going to be backpacking all of the way, taking public transportation and taxis.
We definitely want to do the Pacific Coast.
We want to see some beaches, but we both love wildlife and would like to do some hiking as well.
We want to do some tours, a zipline tour, horseback riding and maybe some white water rafting (this is all up in the air, so nothing is definite).
We land in San Jose at 8PM and we need a good hotel suggestion (we're traveling on a budget, so it doesn't have to be too fancy) as we will stay the night and move on the next morning.
Where should we go? We want to see Monteverde, Santa Elena, Montezuma and Manuel Antonio.
Do we have enough time in 15 days to do all of this?
(I started off wanting to also go to Domincal and Uvita, so I have already removed some places from my proposed itinerary).
Does anyone have some suggestions for hotels and restaurants as well as some sights that we should consider?
Anything that we should include in our packing list?
