Half fare card Posted: Wed August 26, 2009 07:30 PM UTC
I will be in switzerland for three days in the interlaken area? Do you guys know where I can buy the monthly half fare card (99 CHF one) in interlaken? I read that it gives 50% off for the whole trip to Jungfrau and pretty much pays for itself.
thanks

driving in interlaken Posted: Mon August 17, 2009 08:21 PM UTC
I plan to drive into interlaken in two weeks and was looking for a place to stay. I came across Murren/Wengen but read something like you cannot drive or park there... is that true? Where should I look to stay if I bring a car in and want to be able to park?
What areas can I drive to? If I am planning to take the train to Jungfrau, can I drive to the train station and find parking easily or should I try to find a hotel close to the train station?
thanks

Jungfrau:how cold will it be inside? Posted: Sun June 21, 2009 01:03 AM UTC
We will be visiting Jungfrau in mid-August. My partner does not particularly care for cold temperature because we are from Southern California. Will the time spend during the train ride, Ice Caves, Observation buildings, etc be comfortable for an average person. How cold will it be if my partner remain inside?

Basel ---> Interlaken ---> Jungfrau Posted: Fri June 12, 2009 02:01 PM UTC
Me and my husband are planning a trip to Interlaken via Basel (because there is a flight offer). Any advice are appreciated:
Our plans are:
Basel - 1 day
Interlaken - 2 days
Jungfrau - 1 day
Back to Basel then London
Does that sound reasonable? We are not young so would prefer to take it easy.
What would you suggest for the rail pass pls? I looked up the Swiss Rail site but am not sure if we should get the 50% off card instead.
What would you suggest when we stay at Interlaken?
Many thanks

Travel from Zurich to Interlaken--weekend advise Posted: Thu April 9, 2009 01:46 PM UTC
We will arrive in Zurich (from Rome) on Saturday morning at @9am. We hope to skydive in Interlaken that same day but we must be at Interlaken West station by noon. Is this possible? What railway/train should I take from Zurich airport? Should I book ahead? Are there student discounts?
ANy suggested companies to try for a skydiving experience?
We will have one night in Interlaken. What do you suggest we do (2 college students and a mom)?
Sorry about all of the questions but it's my first quick visit to Switzerland.
Thanks very much,

Swiss Pass? Swiss Flexi Pass? Or none? Posted: Sun March 1, 2009 03:03 PM UTC
Hi, it's me again.
I would like to clarify with VT members regarding these passes.
My wife and I (and 2-years daughter) will be travelling from Zurich Airport to Interlaken on 8th April to spend 6 nights there. We will be departing on 14th April to Zurich to stay in hotel there because our flight back to Singapore on the 15th April is at 12 noon, so we are afraid of missing the flight if we leave Interlaken on the 15th itself. Hence on the 15th morning, there will be 1 train ride from Zurich to airport.
In between the 6 days in Interlaken, 1 day will be for Jungfrau. The rest of the days (if the weather is not rainy), we will explore Interlaken, take boat rides and may be day trips to nearby places. Not really plan anything yet.
I was trying to calculate if getting a Swiss Pass or Swiss Flexi Pass is worth it for the two of us. But I got confused with how much I need to pay for the train from Interlaken to Jungfrau with the pass.... Anyone can help me clarify this?
Thanks a lot!

Jungfraujoch ticket availability Posted: Wed February 11, 2009 10:25 PM UTC
We are spending two nights in Interlaken, Feb. 20,21, with Saturday, Feb. 21 devoted to taking the Jungfraujoch railway trip. My question is can we wait to buy tickets when we arrive, in case we decide to postpone because of bad weather, or is it adviseable to buy tickets online at an earlier date because of crowding? Are these tickets reserved for certain days? Thanks.--Dennis

Information on best place to find out about holiday swap advertising? Posted: Sat February 7, 2009 02:34 PM UTC
Hello,
We're trying to arrange a holiday home swap between ourselves and a family in the Interlaken Region.
We have a site, we have one week already promised to a German family but Interlaken is our first true love!
We need good solid advice on who to approach to help us advertise in the Interlaken Region to reach the right people.
We have tried the Tourist information without much joy, they sent us to the local newspapers to put an ad in, these cost as much as our camping fees last year!
Please help! We're getting to the crazy stage!
Happy to share our website details to show we're serious.

01 week in Interlaken as Main Stay Posted: Tue September 16, 2008 07:00 AM UTC
Dear readers,
I am planning to go for a 06-07 day trip to Switzerland during May 2009 with my wife.
a) I am hoping for scenery and mountains with flowers & water flowing and all that you do not find in the city. Is May the right time for that ? (spring time)
b) Planning to stay at Interlaken all the nights and then using the rail system to explore Switzerland. I will be landing by air in Zurich and thus will start the rail form there to interlaken and then from interlaken to all other places. What rail pass should i take. And is this a good option to explore, basically spending one day at diffrent places.
c) Any good budget accomadation in Interlaken with cooking facilities ?
d) Any other suggestions would be very helpful !
Best regards
Nadster

1 week in Switzerland with Interlaken as a base.. (Variety holiday) Posted: Mon September 1, 2008 12:02 PM UTC
Hi
Myself, my wife and my folks are planning a trip to Switzerland on the 13th Feb 2009. We have got timeshare accom in Interlaken which we plan to use a a base for our 1 week holiday. We are looking for some help with our itinerary.
We are landing at Zurich airport and plan to hire a car for the week. We are South African so snow will be a first for us.. I'm keen to do a bit of snowboarding and my folks and wife will probably tabogon a bit. My wife and I are in our 20's and my parents are in their middle 50's.
Here's what I'm thinking.. If anyone could help to fill in the gaps or have alternatives that would be much appreciated:
Day 1: Zurich to Interlaken (explore Interlaken and recover from long haul)
Dat 2: Snowboarding/sledding somewhere near Interlaken (suggestions??)
Day 3: Zermatt (Drive to Täsch and then train up to Zermatt)
Day 4:
Day 5: Drive to Montreux (suggestions??)
Day 6: Drive to Lausanne (suggestions)
Day 7: Snowboarding/sledding somewhere near Interlaken (suggestions??)
Day 8: Interlaken to Zurich (early flight so nothing on this day)
We have done to Jungrfraujoch before so we won't do that again. We love scenic drives and little villages that are covered in snow. Big firplaces etc.. We are all quite fit and love walking as well.
Look forward to hearing some suggestions
Many thanks

Train Tickets Posted: Wed July 9, 2008 03:58 PM UTC
Hi, I am travelling next week to Switzerland with my wife and children. I will be landing in Zurich and taking a train to Interlaken where I stay for 4/5 days.
Could anyone suggest me what ticket (one-way) I should buy to travel from Zurich to Interlaken?
I am planning to buy a 'Swiss Pass' for the next 4 days which also gives free tickets to my children. Is this a good choice or is there some other ticket I should buy for a family?
Finally, please suggest me a few nice places to see in and around Interlaken.
Thanks in advance.

I am looking for a summer hiking trip close to Interlaken! Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 10:11 AM UTC
Hei everybody!
I am going to stay in Interlaken in the beginning of July (8th to 13th), and I am planning to go for a hike in the region. Grindelwald, Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfraujoch all seem like fantastic places to visit, but from what I have read, Niederhorn – Gemmenalphorn is fantastic too! Basically everything looks wonderful, and I have a hard time prioritizing. Does anyone have any suggestions?
And would you know of any nice place to be and watch the sunrise in the early morning? (probably everywhere :)
Thanks!

Interlaken versus Zermatt Posted: Sat June 7, 2008 05:06 PM UTC
We are two 'over 60s' who have visited Zermatt twice (summertime) and loved it,but feel we should try another part of Switzerland in late September. We thought of Interlaken. The Jungfraubahn trip seems very expensive although the cost isn't a problem if it is really worth it.Last year we did St Moritz to Zermatt and really enjoyed the trip on the Glacier Express but it was a very long time to sit on a train.
We are not very fit so don't want to be changing trains too much.
If we do go to Interlaken is it better to fly to Geneva or Zurich. We will travel from there by train.

Swiss Model Trains? Posted: Fri May 30, 2008 09:57 PM UTC
My husband and I recently returned from a fabulous trip to Switzerland, where we enjoyed the wonderful Swiss Rail system. This included the Golden Pass train, as well as the Berner Oberland Bahn, and the Jungfrau Bahn trains, going to the Shilthorn and Jungfrau peaks. When we were in Interlaken, we saw some gift shops selling models of these trains. Does anybody possibly know if there is anywhere I can order these trains from? It would make a fantastic 30th birthday gift for my husband!
Thank you,
Jennifer

4 days in BERNESE OBERLAND region Posted: Wed May 28, 2008 10:46 AM UTC
I am planning to spend about 4 days in the Bernese Oberland region and I would like to visit
Kleine Scheidegg
Jungfraujoch
Lauterbrunnen
Wengen
Mürren
Grindelwald
Schynige Platte
I am not sure if its possible to visit and enjoy all sites in 4 day, would like to get some advice on this and see which once I should drop.
I would like to know which cities I should book my hotel in. I don’t prefer to move hotels every day on different cities but 2 nights in one place is fine.
Would appreciate your views and tips. Thanks
