| Zermatt | Road from Brig to Tasch and Simplon Pass Posted: Sun February 26, 2006 01:48 AM UTC
Hi Everyone - can anyone tell me what the road from Brig to Tasch is like for driving a car? Is it sealed, two way, steep, scary etc.
I am a nervous driver - would I be better to leave my car at Brig and train from there? Also I am planning to go to Italy afterwards via the Simplon Pass - what is that road like to drive? Thanks in advance |

| Zermatt | 6 days trip planning Posted: Tue February 21, 2006 02:26 PM UTC
We, a group of 4 persons, will visit Switzerland for 6 days from end of April. Thereafter, we will go to Munich. We like to see the mountain, glacier and the greenery in Switzerland and plan to go to Geneva, Zermatt(for Gornergrat), Riederalp (for Aletsch Glacier) and St. Gallen (for Appenell). What is the usual weather during those days? Will it be sunny? If not, should I drop Zermatt and Riederalp and visit other places? Any other suggestion or comment can you VT members are very welcomed.
Thanks for your help in advance! |

| Zermatt | late arrival in Zermatt Posted: Fri January 27, 2006 07:47 AM UTC
Hi,
I plan to arrive in Zermatt very late on February 10th, coming from Milan, Italy. I'm arriving by air into Milan Linate Airport at 17h25 and there are two possible trains I could take from Milan Central Station. First one departs Milan Central at 18h25 and arrives in Brig at 20h12, the second one departs Milan Central at 20h25 and arrives in Brig at 22h12. Obviously I would prefer to make the first train, but it might not be possible due to the short connection time from Milan Linate Airport to Milan Central Station. Are there any public transportation from Brig to Zermatt after 20h00? Or will I have to spend the night in Brig and get into Zermatt the next morning? I would very very much like to arrive in Zermatt on Friday, February 10th if at all possible. Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks. David |

| Zermatt | Parking & Luggage security Posted: Sun December 25, 2005 07:43 PM UTC
I found the parking advice really helpful. However, we plan to leave Zermatt and go to San Moritz taking the Gracier Express. We to leave our rented car with the luggage in it in a secure parking place. Would it be safe to leave our luggage in the car?
Thanks ZM |

| Zermatt | From Munich to Zermatt via Lindau and St. Margrethen Posted: Mon October 31, 2005 12:06 PM UTC
I have search the possibility of Munich - Zurich which cost 116€ for 2 persons return trip and use the Swiss pass from there. The other alternative is using the Bayern ticket (24€ x 2 for return trip = 48€) from Munich to Lindau and get a regular ticket from Lindau to St. Margrethen (5.80€ x 2 for 2 persons x 2 for return trip = 23.20€)and from St. Margrethen use the Swiss pass from there.
In the 2nd case, I would save ard 40€ but would have to take only RE, RB trains which means I would have to take the trains 1 hr plus earlier. These should be the additional problems for me if I choose the 2nd case. Anyone have any other better ideas for low cost travelling? |

| Zermatt | Zermatt accomodation in Low Season Posted: Sun August 21, 2005 01:45 PM UTC
Hello there! I am headed to Zermatt in early November, staying 1 day and then moving onto Interlaken for another day. Its low season in Zermatt and many hotels are closed, & I'm having a problem finding decent accom preferably with attached bathroom at a reasonable price (read not more than CHF130). Should I get to Zermatt & then book?
Also is it really that the Gornergrat railway is closed during that period? They listed some date ranges on their rates page & mine isn't within any range?! Help!! |

| Zermatt | VENICE TO ZERMATT Posted: Wed August 17, 2005 02:38 AM UTC
Hello Fellow Travelers, my friend and I will be traveling from Venice to Zermatt. I am so excited!! Only problem is, neither of us have a clue as to how to get there from Venice. We are not familiar with the rail system in Europe at all. Can anyone tell us how long of a trip it is? Is there a night train available from Venice to ----? Whichever city we need to go to. Any information at all will be very helpful. We would like to shop, eat and maybe the gondola ride or any other things you might recommend. Thank you so much in advance!!
