| Bratislava | Hungary from Bratislava Posted: Tue July 22, 2008 08:18 PM UTC
I am going to be in Bratislava for 3 days in August and want to know if it is easy to get to Mosonmagyarovar or should I just go to Gyor. Is a train or bus easier to either of these destinations? Thanks for your help.

| Bratislava | Rail ticket from Bratislava to Prague Posted: Sun July 6, 2008 09:36 PM UTC
Hi! I will travel by train from Bratislava to Prague.
Some weeks ago I read a VT deal where it was said that it is possible to travel between the two cities by buying a ticket from Bratislava to the border station (Breclav) and then, aboard, a Czech national ticket from Breclav to Prague. This is apparently cheaper than the normal Bratislava-Prague ticket. I'd like to know if anyone has ever done so. I'm a bit afraid at the idea of taking a train without a regular ticket because this is illegal in Italy (you are fined 50 euro if you haven't got a ticket), and buying tickets aboard has been very limited for some years already. So, if anyone else had bought this double ticket (Bratislava-Breclav + Breclav-Prague), I wouldn't worry about it. Thanks, Michele |

| Bratislava | Advance reservation for bicycle carriage on the EC 174 Bratislava to Decin Posted: Sat June 21, 2008 11:23 PM UTC
I need to make a reservation for bicycle carriage on the EC 174 leaving Bratislava at 08:12 and arriving in Decin at 13:56 each day. I intend to go in July, coming from Austria on the Danube Cycling trail.
The EC 174 is the only train that carries bicycles on this route fast and without multiple changes, plus it is the cheapest and only option for me for getting to my home in East Germany on the same day. But reservations for bicycle carriage on EC trains need to be made in advance. Is there any way to purchase the reservation and the train ticket over the internet? For Bratislava-Dresden on the same train I could call Deutsche Bahn, but I rather not pay the 60 EUR extra that this would cost me. |

| Bratislava | Using only the return portion of a Ryanair ticket? Posted: Thu June 19, 2008 10:07 AM UTC
My daughter and her friend have booked a Ryanair flight from Hahn to Bratislava and back to go to the match in Vienna tomorrow. They split up in the meantime, but she is still going. She had to change the day of her trip to Vienna and is taking a train now, but still wants to fly back as originally planned. Her friend isn't going at all.
(Additional question: Is anyone interested in a ticket for the match Turkey-Croatia tomorow? Pick-up would be Vienna.) My daughter checked in online for the return portion, but we're not sure if Ryanair will accept her ticket, since she didn't use the the first part, Hahn - Bratislava. Does anybody know how this is handled? I know EU law states the airlines have to accept the return part, but this is a new law and Ryanair is not exactly known for their passenger service. Since Ryanair sells the flight as flights to Vienna, I'll also post this question in the Vienna forum. Thank you for any help. |

| Bratislava | Visiting Bratislava in July 2008 Posted: Thu June 5, 2008 03:02 PM UTC
I will visit Bratislava from 12th to 19th July this year. It would be great if I could meet other VTers during my stay, so if you are there, please let me know.
Other questions: 1) what are some nice places I should see, apart from the most important museums, palaces that are mentioned in guidebooks? 2) how many days will I need to visit Bratislava well (some museums, all the important churches, the city centre, etc.)? 3) What locations near Bratislava are worth visiting on a one-day trip? And how can I reach them by public transport? 4) I will take a train from Vienna to Bratislava main station. My hotel is located at Rajska ulica. What tram or bus do I have to take to get there? Do I also have to buy a ticket for my suitcase and how much does this ticket cost? 5) Will I need to buy a pass for trams and buses to visit the city or can just walk across it? Are there 7-day or (2/3/5-day) public transport tickets? Thanks for your answers! |

| Bratislava | Cheap accomodations with Internet or a place where I can work for five hours with Internet? Posted: Fri May 23, 2008 02:33 AM UTC
I am planning to go to Bratislava for two weeks to a month in August. I want to make a grand tour of the area and I think I will use Bratislava as my base to visit different cities in the area.
I wonder if someone could help me. I don't mind staying at a hostel but the main thing is this: I need to either rent a place where I can have high speed internet access and be alone for five hours per day so I can do my work (I teach English online) or I can stay anywhere like a hostel but I need a place where I can work with the characteristics I mentioned above. . .and since I am from Argentina (and we have a very poor currency) I can't afford much. Does anybody have any ideas? |

| Bratislava | Budget Accommodation Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 09:22 AM UTC
Have went through a lot of hostels, a private room for two costs at least 50euro. I believe the same price is good enough to stay in a hotel as well? Any hotel/hostel around the price could you recommend? The euro is 20% higher than the time I started planning for this trip.  I am okay with mix-dorm but my friend has never done that. Thanks.

| Bratislava | Visiting Slovakia Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 09:22 AM UTC
Hi there,
I am going to be visiting Slovakia for two weeks in August. As I am at the start of my planning I have a few basic questions for all of you: - I would like to learn a little Slovak to help me get around however I have only been able to find Czech learning resources. Will learning some Czech be sufficient? - What are the absolute 'must-dos' of Slovakia? My rough guide is in the post but as yet I know virtually nothing about the country. Your suggestions may include visits to areas around Slovakia but, as I only have two weeks, I would like to use most of my time to get to know Slovakia better. Any other thoughts would be most welcome Graham |
