Dortmund Outlying Areas....
Posted: Wed January 16, 2008 06:39 PM UTC
Hi everyone, my wife and I will be staying in Dortmund for probably about 10 days in late June. I'm from rural Texas, and I enjoy cities but might like to also see some less crowded places in Germany. My question is, if I'm staying in Dortmund, can you suggest some places outside of town to visit that are smaller? Do community trains travel to these outlying places? Any other tips are welcome as well.

Dortmund Restaurants/Night out for New Years Eve in Dortmund?
Posted: Thu December 13, 2007 12:49 PM UTC
Hello,

I'm coming to Dortmund from London for a New Years break. Can anyone recommend a nice restaurant or night out for New Years Eve? I'm staying in the NH Dortmund, Königswall, 1, D-44137 Dortmund so the nearer to there the better.

Thanks for any responses.
Kind Regards,

Dortmund Bar/Restaurant...
Posted: Wed October 24, 2007 10:32 AM UTC
Can anyone who knows Dortmund recommend a bar or restaurant that is near

Express By Holiday Inn
DORTMUND
MOSKAUER STRASSE 1
DORTMUND, 44269

Somewhere that you could walk to in under 15 minutes that offers food on a friday night around 10pm.
Ideally a bar that does food rather than for a formal sit down meal

Many Thanks

Posted: Thu January 25, 2007 08:47 PM UTC
I am thinking of staying at this hotel while I am in Dortmund in a few weeks.

Is this University area a bit out of town and bleak / empty - Or are there still bars and eateries within a short distance of the Hotel / Area?

Thanks Dortmunders!

Dortmund world cup vt meeting in dortmund on sunday the 18th of june.
Posted: Mon June 12, 2006 10:19 PM UTC
there will be a vt meeting in dortmund on sunday the 18th of june.
we will meet up at Friedensplatz at 17:00 where they have a big screen showing brazil vs australia.
then we can have a few drinks and a bite to eat while watching if the australian kangoroos get their tails bitten off by ronaldinhos big teeth.
after that we can just take it as it comes and wander around town and party with all the football fans.
afterall this is a very special month in germany.
looking forward to see you guys.

the place where we meet might be crowded so i will make a big banner saying "vt meeting" and bring it along.
just look out for the sign and you can´t go wrong.
i will bring my cell phone and the number is +45 22 42 43 46 so just call me if you are having problems locating

Dortmund First visit to Dortmund since 1967!
Posted: Wed March 22, 2006 06:57 PM UTC
I am going to Dortmund on 11th May for a few days. I used to be stationed there in the British Army then. I was at West Riding Barracks. Would anyone know if the barracks are still there and still in use?

From the centre of town we used to get Tram number 7 and ask for Nussbaumweg. Does that tram still operate the same route?

I used to frequent the bars in Dortmund Horde area. I wonder what that is like now. The beer I liked best was Dortmunder Hansa out of the 7 different beers that was brewed in Dortmund.

Any idea how I would get from the airport to that part of town?

I am looking forward so much to my visit. I used to watch Borussia Dortmund play a lot. I recall seeing a match against Hamburg when Uwe Seiller was playing. Sigi Held played for Dortmund I think and also the German keeper?

Any info woud be so much appreciated.

Dortmund Accomodation near Dortmund Fifa Worldcup stadium and transport after 2300
Posted: Wed March 8, 2006 03:40 PM UTC
Hi there, we will be heading to Dortmund for a preliminary match btw Brazil and Japan on 22 June!!

We prefer not to take public transport with some 60000 crowd when the match finish at 2300. So, if anyone know there is any cheap accomodation located within 2km radius from the venue (Strobelallee 50. D-44139 Dortmund), please advice.

I've tried Ibis Dortmund City Hotel suggested by Fifa Worldcup organiser, it's fully booked unfortunately.

Or, what is the public transport service looks like after 2300? e.g convenience and security?

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Dortmund Brewery Tours
Posted: Mon November 15, 2004 10:22 AM UTC
It is my understanding there are a several Breweries in Dortmund or surrounding areas.

Can anyone help with some addresses?

Or, information on possible Guided Tours and so on?

Any other 'Must See' (not too many Castles or Museums - it might be too cold at this time of year!).

Dortmund Electrical items - hair dryer kettle etc.
Posted: Sun November 14, 2004 01:48 PM UTC
Well, we are due to come to Dortmund in about 6 weeks time. We have planned for the weather but we need to bring a kettle so we can make a cuppa tea and cuppa soups as necessary.

Now we live in Spain we have a kettle with a Spanish Plug, but we also have a British Travel kettle with an adaptor. What would be best to bring?

Similarly with hair dryers, we have a British hair dryer with a British plug and also a Spanish hair dryer with a Spanish plug.

Obviously if the plugs are the same in GErmany as in Spain we will bring our Spanish Connections. if not we will bring our British ones with the adaptor.

What is the voltage in Germany and what plugs are used there?

Dortmund getting from dortmund to Frankfurt Hahn Airport
Posted: Wed June 2, 2004 04:59 AM UTC
how would one go about doing this. i checked bahn.de, and there is a train which serves these two areas; but there is a great fluctaution in prices depending on the time of day. i don't know why this is...

Would it be difficult to get to Hahn airport using the train (I think there is a bus involved?) if I were carrying a suitcase and a bag with me?

are there any other ways to get there? and what would the approximate cost be?

thanks a bunch!

Dortmund U.S. To Dortmund
Posted: Wed April 28, 2004 02:39 PM UTC
My daughter will be attending a summer semester at the University of Dortmund. It appears to me that it would be less expensive if she flies into Cologne rather than into Dortmund. Are there regular buses or trains between Cologne - Dortmund?

Dortmund DORTMUND BUDESLIGA SOCCER
Posted: Fri April 9, 2004 03:17 PM UTC
I wanted to go to the dortmund vs bayern munchen game on april 17th, but i have never traveled on the train system alone when i was visiting germany. Im not fluent in german and im worried about the long train trip from Bamberg to Dortmund. Does anyone know if this trip is difficult and how complicated it is to get to Dortmunds stadium once ive arrived at the main train station there? Im most worried about catching my connections which will either be one or even two connections since its such a long trip. Also, what time should i schedule my train to go home since it will most likely take a while to get out after the game is over. i know these questions might seem vague but if theres anyone who knows about this i can give you more specific questions if you need them. thanks in advance.

Dortmund Where shoud the tartan army party?
Posted: Sat July 12, 2003 04:38 PM UTC
Like the other posters, I'm coming across with 15,000 other fans for the Deutschland v Schottland football match from 9th Sept to 12th September. I'm staying in a hotel on Konigswall.

Which are the best pubs to drink in in the centre of Dortmund?
Are there any big beer halls where we can all go to party?
Is there a central square where we can all gather?

Thanks

Dortmund 3 to 4 Star Hotels in Dortmund
Posted: Fri July 4, 2003 09:28 AM UTC
I am organising a business trip to Dortmund in September (Scotland v Germany game). Can you recommend 3 or 4 star hotels in Dortmund that could cater for a business trip of 7 people? I am looking for a hotel that is in the centre of Dortmund but will also allow our guests to get to and from the Westfalen Stadium with some ease. Any advice would be much appreciated.
