I am going to Sorrento and then want to go onto Matera - are there regular buses to matera or trains to near Matera?? Most of the inforamtion is from Puglia side
Thanks
Does anyone know if all the trains you book for night travel automatically include sleeping quarters? Is there anyone who can give me some good advice on traveling by train. It appears there is more than one company, and prices vary.
We are hoping to visit our ancestral hometowns in Potenza during Thanksgiving week, Nov. 17-24. We're been to Italy many times but never to this region. Any advice for hotels, restaurants and must-see spots. Thanks for any information.
I was hoping that someone would place some info on Maratea but nothing yet. Also I looked up Hotel Santavenere and the rates that come up show $1,500-$3,000 per night???Can this be true??Any help is appreciated--Thanks-Gene
Does anyone have any good advice on getting to Calitri? Either from Avellion or elsewhere? I'd like to visit the town for the day, and try to see some of Avellino that same day, if possible. Are there buses or anything local that could get me to Calitri without having a car? Thanks!
We are looking for accommodation in Maratea but with all the little communities it is difficult to get a good understanding of the area and how far apart things are. We want something atmospheric and not too expensive. The Old Town sounds like what we are after, but is it far from the beach? An apartment with two double bedrooms or a bed & breakfast would be great or a hotel (assuming not too expensive). All the websites I've found so far are for accomodation which appear to be quite some distance from the Old Town and/or requires a car. Do you have any suggestions?
Regards
Is there someone who is real familiar with the Maratea area. Are there restaurants in other than hotesl and is there a piazza in town with a few shops and restaurants. If not does any one know the closest decent size city near Maratea. Also is it easier to fly into Naples or Lamezia Terme in Calabria-How about the Santavenere hotel? Anyone know anything about that--Thanks for your help-Gene
Io e mio marito want to take a trip to see where our families were from and then spend some time at/near the Amalfi Coast. This will probably be our only trip to Italy in this lifetime and we only have 2 weeks. His family is near Avellino and mine is Avigliano/Potenza. Anyone know the best way for me to get from Naples to Avigliano (by way of Avellino) and about how long it will take? Is there actually much reason to stay in either town or will this most likely be drive in, look around and drive on to the next "hometown"?
Now I give up.
All those different compagnies running the trains and busses give me headache.
Isnīt there one page where it is possible to find out about all traffic in Italy?
Well, I want to find out if busline between Alberobello and Matera? What compagny run it, and how often?
Well-travelled as I am, I've never visited Basilicata. Shame for an Italian, so I intend to spend next NYE in there with my Finnish girlfriend. Any advice on "hidden" places to see would be dearly appreciated. I speak Italian and will be driving. A presto, grazie, The Baron
Probably I'll visit Italy (Matera and Grotole) for this year's Christmas. I'll spend there about one week.
My questions are in the field 'How to reach... .': I can fly to Milan or Rome. Can you help me - where it is easier to reach Matera? Is it better by train, or, probably busses are more convenient? After that I have to leave for Grotole. How is the public transport?
Do you think I'll manage knowing almost any Italian?
Thanks for your help, and greetings from Bulgaria. You are welcome if you are coming here.
Hello all, I have 3 questions for those more knowledgeable than I am: 1) :?: why is it that most Anglo-saxons hardly ever mention Basilicata/Calabria in forums etc. and expats too, even Brits, seem to avoid these areas in relocation?
2) :?: I am planning a visit there and would like to know which communes-towns are badly impacted by depopulation & out-migration of young locals, and if you think that a westerner might be welcome (or feel comfortable) to spend a few months there
3) :?: which coastal towns in Basilicata (both sides)and which on the Ionic side of Calabria north of Crotone have the loveliest sandy beaches? or the nicest to stay in for a while?
