Dresden BLUE WONDER BRIDGE
Posted: Mon October 26, 2009 06:46 PM UTC
From the railway station we will walk to the christmas market at Altmarkt then onwards heading towards the river. We would like eventually to go across the Blue Wonder Bridge but I see this is to the east of the centre and seems quite a distance to walk so could anyone tell me how to get there by public transport. Names of stops and tram numbers would be useful or can we use the metro? If its not as far as I think and we would miss the sights by not walking then its ok we will walk. Anyone know the distance from Altmarkt? Thankyou.

Dresden Dresden left luggage
Posted: Tue October 20, 2009 11:40 AM UTC
Hi all,

I'm stopping for a day in early December in dresden on my way to Prague and was wondering if the train station (HBF) has a left luggage room. If so, is it safe?

Finally, is it far to get to the xmas markets (next to Frauenkirche) from the train station?

Thanks!

Dresden DRESDEN DAY TRIP
Posted: Tue October 20, 2009 11:31 AM UTC
We will be visiting Dresden on a day trip from Prague at the end of November. We will be arriving by train. What is the best method of getting into the centre from the railway station? We don't mind walking unless its absolutely miles but we would rather use public transport rather than taxis if we can't walk, so which buses/trams do we want? We will have about 5 hours in Dresden so what should we see? Not too bothered about churches etc. but would like to see some culture and monuments. Just a general tour round really. Is it nice on the riverbank? Also we want a few beers and a meal so any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks.

Dresden Berlin /Schoenefeld-Dresden-Halle
Posted: Sun January 25, 2009 10:22 PM UTC
Myslef and my wife(both in our 60's) are arriving in Berlin Feb 24th we arrive at Berlin/Scheonfeld at about 3.30pm. I have a few questions regarding where we should go from there. We have to be in Halle by Thursday 26th about 3pm and had hoped that between the 24th &26th we could visit Dresden. I am finding the train timetable a bit confusing. Could someone tell me is there a direct train from Scheonfeld to Dresden or will we have to get off and board another train en route ? What time train would we make if we fly in at 3.30pm and how much would this train cost. Would anyone have any recommendations for a good value hotel in Dresden where we would dtay for 2 nights and also for us to reach Halle on the 26th by about 3pm is there a train leaving Dresden that would get us there and also how much would it cost. We are between minds if we should go to Dresden at all is there much in the line of sightseeing etc or should we maybe just head straight for Halle 2 days early. or maybe someone might have another idea of where we could spend our time prior to going to Halle. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Dresden Not expensive food-place in Dresden with traditional German food
Posted: Wed December 24, 2008 12:26 PM UTC
Hello!

I'm going to Dresden in January, so could you help me with some food-places there?
Could you advice me good but not expensive cafe, bar or restaurant in Dresden with traditional German food. I mean pork, sausages, beer etc.?
Somewhere in the city-centre or near the train station?

How much could it cost to have average dinner there?

Thank you!

Dresden Kaestner Museum?
Posted: Sun August 31, 2008 05:26 PM UTC
Has anyone been to the Erich Kästner Museum? I like him very much, but there is so much to see in Dresden, that we have to cut down our what-to-do list.
I didn't find any tips on the Dresden pages, but maybe someone went there and can tell me about it.
Their website is not the best, they're still promoting a rallye for 9th July.
As always, thank you in advance for any inside information.

Dresden Visiting Dreden
Posted: Wed August 27, 2008 08:30 AM UTC
Hello, VT members.
I am visiting Germany in March of next year, and would be in Dresden sometime towards the end of the first week of March.
Since this would be our first time to Dresden,I have a few querries.
What would the weather be like at that time of the year.
Regarding accommodation:I have seen a studio apartment, the location of which looks very nice.It is located at an address"Castle Hill 6,01462 Dresden. What little information that I have been able to gather from the web site is that it is 11km from the city center, and the public transport is available.Does anybody know of this area. The website is www.amburgberg.de.
We plan to stay in Dresden for one week.Is that too much.
Please somebody enlighten me on this location.
Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Dresden anyone know any inexpensive pensions/hotels in dresden innere aldstadt area?
Posted: Sun August 24, 2008 02:18 AM UTC
we're looking for seomthing is inexpensive. 1 star to 2. less than 80 euros per night. I don't care if the bathroom is in the room or out in the hallway. the only thing we care about is that the sleeping quarters are private for only 2 people and that older people (ie-we are in our late 30's) are allowed.

Hi,
I will be in Dresden for one night. Can anybody recommend a hotel or hostel? Usually I am on a low budget but if there is little more comfort for a fair prize, that is fine, too.

Dresden old paddle steamer to the National Park Saxon Switzerland

Can someone help me to find a schedule and an itinerary of the steamer from the city to National Park Saxon Switzerland on http://www.saechsische-dampfschiffahrt.de, german isn`t my forte :)

I saw on http://www.germanplaces.com/germany/dresden-attractions-activities.html that the top tip in Dresden is to make "an unforgettable trip on the old paddle steamer to the nearby National Park Saxon Switzerland to see the unique sandstone formations".

Dresden Visiting Dresden
Posted: Tue September 4, 2007 05:36 AM UTC
Our son and his wife and daughter have just moved to Dresden from the United States. We live in New Zealand and will be visiting next year. We met them in Dresden this time last year and were very impressed with the 'old city'. Can someone tell me what is the best time of the year to visit weatherwise? Do not care for extreme temperatures.
Also can you give us some idea of areas which are nearby and are worth visiting?
We have been to Prague and loved this city and will visit again. We will also visit Berlin. The countryside appeals to us also, any recommendations of places to stay and visit. Thanking you

I'm moving to Dresden in January from Texas to be with my fiancee. I love to cook and I was wondering if there were any places in Dresden that specialize in imported foods. Especially spices and more exotic tastes to satisfy my culinary palette.

Dresden Really necessary to sign a kind of "Reservierungsbestatigung"?
Posted: Wed August 8, 2007 09:11 AM UTC
I've booked a privatzimmer and I was asked to sign a paper called "Reservierungsbestatigung" which is only in German. They told me that only the German version was available. I have never been asked to sign any papers for booking an accommodation in other European cities. Could anyone let me know if it is a normal practice in Germany? Or is it a trap?

Thank you.

Dresden Can I purchase my ticket the same day I travel to Dresden?
Posted: Sun May 6, 2007 10:39 PM UTC
Both of us plan to visit Dresden end of June, after a couple days' stay in Berlin. Is Dresden in the same state as Berlin because it looks pretty close? And are there any special tickets for public transport that we could buy for use around Berlin as well as on the train ride to Dresden?

Would also appreciate info as to:-
1. Which Railway Station in Berlin do we go to catch the train for Dresden?

2. Any idea of savings and convenience, if we buy our tickets the same day at the train station?

3. Is it possible, and if so, would there be savings to purchase a return ticket (from Berlin to Dresden and back to Berlin, as we got to catch our plane from Berlin) because we would like to avoid queuing up again (as well as on time) in Dresden to buy the train ticket back to Berlin from Dresden?

4. Any day ticket sold for use on public transport in Dresden? or is Dresden small enough to explore on foot?

Thanks in advance.

Dresden Berlin to Dresden train itinerary - possible?
Posted: Wed April 25, 2007 08:04 PM UTC
Hi all

I am looking for ways to get to Dresden from London on the 9th of May.
The only affordable flights I have found so far are with Ryanair, to Berlin
Schönefeld airport - then I will have to take the train to Dresden.

Considering that the morning flight lands at 9:10 am and I MUST be at Dresden
Neustadt station at 13:00 (preferably earlier), I searched at www.bahn.de
and got the following timetable:

Berlin-Schönefeld Flughafen We, 09.05.07 dep 10:07 (or 9.57)
Berlin Hermannstraße We, 09.05.07 arr 10:31 (or 10:24)

Berlin Hermannstraße We, 09.05.07 dep 10:34
Berlin Südkreuz (S) We, 09.05.07 arr 10:39

Berlin Südkreuz (S) We, 09.05.07 5 minute walk
Berlin Südkreuz We, 09.05.07

Berlin Südkreuz We, 09.05.07 dep 10:53
Dresden-Neustadt We, 09.05.07 arr 12:49

How possible is that to do, considering that some of the connections
only have a few minutes between them?
Especially taking into account that I have never been to any of these
stations and don't know any german, so it might take longer to find the
different trains and platforms.

I know that german trains are usually punctual, but the only time I've been
to Germany (in transit) I missed a flight due to rail disruptions.

There is another option of taking the late flight on the 8th, spend
the night at Berlin and take an early morning train to Dresden.
Do you think that's preferable? If so, can anyone recommend a budget
hotel or hostel near any of the above train stations or the airport?

Any other suggestions are welcome.

Many thanks,
