Frankfurt to Prague (and Krakow) by train - DB info is confusing Posted: Thu October 8, 2009 06:58 PM UTC
Based on replies to other similar questions, I've gone to the Deutsche Bahn site and found tickets from Frankfurt Hbf to Prague Autobusova (I assume that's the main bus station there). The fare is 59 Euro and all looks fine, but I'm confused by the "Products" info, where it tells which types of transport are used - it says ICE and bus. And that the travel time is 6 hours. There are no connections listed (I was expecting to see a connection in Nurnburg), and no indication of when the bus part comes in - I would think that bus travel would lengthen the time, not shorten it from 8 hrs to 6 hrs. What am I missing here?
I'll be traveling with 3 children under age 8, so would like to avoid bus travel in general and reduce my connections.
Following a couple of days in Prague, we'll be heading on to Krakow, so any train travel tips for that end are also welcome.

What is the best way to get from Frankfurt to Venice? Or, does it make more sense to skip Venice and go directly from Frankfurt to Rome?

Auto/racing store for shoes Posted: Mon August 10, 2009 12:10 AM UTC
Hey everyone,
I'll be in Frankfurt for a morning before I head to the Nurburgring. I was wanting to pick up some decent driving shoes before I head to the track. I don't need anything fire retardant, but just something a little more suited to performance driving. Does anyone know of some stores in the city centre that would carry some sort of driving shoes? Any websites would be very helpful!
Thanks!

Frankfurt HBF lockers Posted: Fri August 7, 2009 06:00 AM UTC
My husband and I will be traveling through Germany and we'll have just a few hours to explore Frankfurt Am Main. We'll have luggage that is on the larger side and I'm wondering if locking up our luggage in Frankfurt HBF is a reasonable idea. Are there ample lockers? Most importantly, are they secure? How does it work — is there an attendant that helps you or is it self-serve?
Also how close is the train station from the city centre? What's the best way to get there? Walk? We won't have much time, so we were considering dropping off our bags and seeing as much as we can.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Using a Eurail Pass for the first time Posted: Tue August 4, 2009 06:45 PM UTC
Hello VTs: I may have made a mistake, but I purchased a eurail pass and my plane arrives in Frankfurt airport at 7:20 am. on a Friday morning. I made a reservation for the 8:54 am train to Munich. My question is; do I have to stand in line at the DB ticket counter to validate my eurail pass or can I somehow do this on the train? And if, I have to go to a counter first, is there a special line just for eurail validations? Thanks, SH

train from airport to amsterdam Posted: Tue June 30, 2009 02:20 AM UTC
My 22 y.o. son will be traveling alone to Frankfurt (FRA) and taking a train to Amsterdam. I've learned from reading posts that there is a train station at the airport. I'm assuming that he will be able to catch his train there. Will that trip be direct to Amsterdam or will he need to change trains? He has already purchased a Eurail Pass. I know that some tickets require a surcharge for a reservation. Will this be one of those situations? If not, does that change once in the Netherlands? Thanks in advance for any help in this matter. This trip has come up quickly and he will be leaving in a few days. We plan on doing as much research as we can, but I have found that VT is always the best source for info.

Me and my husband are going to be in Frankfurt for about 10 hours, on our way to other European destination. I was wondering if somebody can suggest me the best way to make use of that time visiting some of the places in Frankfurt. Is the hop-on-hop-off a good option?
Thanks.

Hunting for an Old restaurant Posted: Wed May 6, 2009 04:43 PM UTC
We were stationed in Germany in the 70's and often went to a restaurant in Frankfurt Nied, but can't remember where it was. They served a huge grillplatte( about 36 inches long ) which could feed 4 people easily. It was served with a sword down the middle, the meat covering the sword, and flaming. They always turned off the lights when bringing it to the table. Realizing that this a "looooong" time ago, we wondered if it is still around and has anyone ever heard of it? We will be in that area in early October and would love to go back there.

Frankfurt airport connection to france please help! Posted: Mon May 4, 2009 03:29 AM UTC
i booked tickets to paris through three different airlines, (it was cheaper)
I realized i may have made a bit of a blunder and i am wondering if i can make this all work out or if i am screwed.
I am getting to frankfurt at 9:35 AM from NYC on a Sunday. I am not checking in any bags and I walk/move quickly. I have a connection on Air France at 10:40 AM to paris CDG
I read that I can check in 30 hrs prior to departure on their air france website
So my question, do you think I can make this flight? Do I have to go through customs? How long will it get from my flight from nyc(DELTA) to paris (Air France)
thank you

Frankfurt main airport things to do ... Posted: Mon April 20, 2009 03:57 AM UTC
Hi
In the not too distant future, i will find myself at Frankfurt Airport, in town on business and have one day. Is the city center far from the main airport? Is it easy to get to the city center from airport without too much hassle? If the city center is too far, is there any area closer to airport easy to get to worth going to ( nothing in particular would like to see, just explore the area).
thanks

Sleeper Train or Day train from FRA to Prague? Advice pls :) Posted: Sun April 12, 2009 09:04 AM UTC
hi all
found several solutions on this forum. but am hoping to find out if you have any advice specific for my flight schedule
Option 1 - evening arrival in FRA airport
My flight lands in FRA Int'l airport at 20:40. Found the info on this direct EuroNight train (EN459) that departs Frankfurt(Main)Süd
station at 00:55 which reaches Prague Hl.N (10:52)in the morning via following website:
http://www.vlak.cz/ConnRes.asp?tt=a&p=CD&cl=E5&from=1&from=0&from=2224&froml=-1&to=1&to=0&to=6243&tol=-1&date=25.4.2009&time=8:35&min1=5&max1=240&alg=0&isdep=1&beds=0&chn=5&stop=0&odcht=0&odch=50&link=AF5C
Qns
1. Any idea how easy (and time required) to get to the Frankfurt(Main)Süd stn from the airport?
2. Was trying to find the price of tickets for 2 to a cabin (compartment) for the night train, but was unable to. Anyone able to advise?
can i buy this ticket in advance (other than via RailEurope - who is unable to confirm the sector and i thought it was pricey) or better to buy it at the station itself?
Option 2- morning arrival in FRA airport
My flight can land in FRA airport at FRA 06:30.
Read that possible cheapest option is "via- Take the ICE from Frankfurt Flughafen to Nürnberg.. You arrive in Nürnberg at 12:59.
- In Nürnberg take the train to Praha. This one leaves at 13:39, so you have plenty of time to buy your Bavaria - Bohemia ticket there. Arrival in Praha 18:50."
Qn:
1. how do i buy these tickets in advance? via DB website?
2. How do i get to FRA airport to Flughafen station?
My preference is for a direct train (option 1) though i think i may be too tired from the flight..
any advice appreciated
are there any other direct trains leaving from FRA to prague that i can consider given my flight schedule options?

Help with itinerary please Posted: Thu March 19, 2009 07:21 PM UTC
My husband and I will be arriving in Frankfurt August 4th.(Ryan air from Oslo) We need help with our itinerary.
We would like to take a
-Rhine cruise,
-wine tour
-visit the Black Forest (would like to stay at Renaissance -Karisruhe Hotel 2 nights)
-visit Austria
-possibly Zurich.
We will be flying back to Canada on August 12th so we will be staying in Frankfurt at the Frankfurt Marriotte
I've read about the ICE train. I have a very poor sense of direction even with a map.I would like to know where the best place would be as a base, what train, do I buy a pass? DIY trip to Europe is much more difficult to plan than a trip to the beach!
I appreciate any help.
Thanks

Flying into Frankfurt--Never been to Europe Posted: Sat March 14, 2009 05:55 AM UTC
Hello!
My husband and I have found some great deals on flights and we are going out on a whim and flying to Frankfurt at the end of May. We will only have about 2 weeks.
We need help figuring out what is reasonable to see within that time frame while traveling on a budget. Our requirements right now are that we'd like to get to Paris, see some castles, & maybe see Prague. We are young, fairly active, and up for adventure.
So...with that said, what is reasonable to plan on seeing? What places do you guys recommend we go? For how long? Other words of advice???
Thanks in advance!

Places to drive to from Frankfort/Wiesbaden Posted: Thu March 12, 2009 05:28 PM UTC
I'll be in the Frankfort/Wiesbaden area visiting my brother and family in late April. We're considering our options for places to visit while I'm there. We would like to limit our decision to places no more than 2-3 hours away (by car). We'll also need to consider places that might be fun or interesting for small children. Other than that we're wide open to suggestions. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks a lot.
