Frankfurt am Main What to do with a Five hour stopper in Frankfurt
Posted: Fri July 18, 2008 05:13 PM UTC
Hi all,

We will be flying through Frankfurt airport and will have a five hour stop-over. I was wondering if this would give us enough time to do anything outside of the airport? (for exemple, go downtown for a walk and lunch)

Is the train into the center and back to the airport fairly reliable and frequent? How long is the ride?

In general I'd like to get an idea if this is feasible or risky?

Frankfurt am Main A town to stay overnight about 1hr out of Frankfurt
Posted: Sat June 28, 2008 04:28 AM UTC
Hello

I am wondering if someone could recommend a nice town to stay overnight which is about 1 or 2 hours drive out of Frankfurt. Myself and 2 friends will be driving to Frankfurt from Paris in September and instead of staying in Frankfurt for one night before we head home to Australia, I thought it would be nice to stay in a town outside the city. I have stayed in Veinheim previously, but it is a little out of the way for me coming in from Paris.

I have been 'googling' towns like, Mainz, Kaiserburn etc, but have no idea what is available.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be really helpful
Thanks

Frankfurt am Main Things to do for overnight stay close to airport
Posted: Fri June 27, 2008 02:29 PM UTC
Hi all,

We're in the process of planning our honeymoon and checking out flights. What we found includes 2 stop overs in Frankfurts both going and coming. The timings would be as follows:

FRANKFURT arrival 1625
complimentary overnight stay at airport hotel

FRANKFURT departure 1310 (next day)

FRANKFURT arrival 0925
complimentary overnight hotel at airport hotel

FRANKFURT departure 1025

Is there anything worthwhile that can be done between these time periods? Flights are from Lufthansa... I don't know which hotel they would offer. Would an airport hotel be close to anywhere to visit? If anyone has any helpful information please let us know!! :)

Thanks,

Oriana

Frankfurt am Main Store Luggage for a few days.
Posted: Mon June 23, 2008 12:52 AM UTC
Hi,

I will be in Frankfurt on the 3rd of July. I will be leaving to Rome for 10 Days then back to Frankfurt again. Is there any place I can store a large bag long term (10 Days)? The airport is way too expensive so maybe a local storage space or something can do the trick for me. Let me know.

Frankfurt am Main luggage storage
Posted: Sat June 14, 2008 05:49 PM UTC
I am looking for long term luggage storage and not sure what Frankfurt has to offer. I have seen both the train station and the airport webpages, but they dont seem to mention anything about long term storage. Thing is I am a student living in the area and want to travel around europe before heading home, althought i have several large suitcases, that I dont want to pack around, especially since i am considering flying ryanair. Does anyone happen to know if there are any places i could store the luggage for up to a month?

thanks for the answers.

Frankfurt am Main Suggestions for visiting within about 200 km of Frankfurt?
Posted: Sun May 25, 2008 06:01 PM UTC
Suggestions for Germany?

My wife and I are flying into Frankfurt next May (09) and have 4 days and 4 nights on our own before meeting a group on the 5th day to fly to Ukraine (Bessarabian area) the following day. On the way back the group will stop in Stuttgart and surrounding areas for 3 days.

It takes us about a year to visualize a trip, so we’re just starting and seeking suggestions.

We’d like to go to one place for those first 4 days on our own and tour locally from there.

We’re open to ideas. The first things that come to our mind are:
* the western end of the Mosel (perhaps at a country B&B near Wittlich spending days in Trier, Mosel river, and Burg Elz)
* Bamberg and its surroundings
* Someplace in the Neckar valley
* or ???
We could either drive or use the train, depending on the plans.

Our interests:
We usually try to do touristy things in a non-tourist area ( … hmmm … a contradiction?).
We like to meet residents and experience the culture. We look for more than just visual “eye candy”, but do enjoy both city and natural sights, history and art museums, castles, old towns, etc. We’re in our mid 60’s, very active, tend to be going strong all day long from early morning to mid evening – strong walkers, hikers, bicyclers, classical and folk music listeners. We’re budget conscious, so tend to stay in 2 to 3 star places, but splurge occasionally.
In 06 we went to the Bavarian Alps, Salzburg, Cesky Krumlov, Prague, Dresden, Olbernhau (my wife’s dad’s hometown), and Berlin on our first exploratory trip to Europe. After we retire in 2010 we hope to live a few months in Germany.

Frankfurt am Main Frankfurt Main airport and Frankfurt Hahn airport....
Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 08:45 PM UTC
Where exactly is Frankfurt Hahn airport in relation to Frankfurt city? I understand it is more than a fair distance away but what sort of distance are we talking about? It's west of the city isn't it?

I'm checking to see if there are any reasonably priced flights from Frankfurt to Budapest but at the moment Frankfurt Hahn is the front runner.
Any thoughts VT members?
Thanks

Frankfurt am Main US to Frankfurt, then Frankfurt Lufthansa to Krakow ... weight & other questions
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 04:28 AM UTC
I will be flying to Frankfurt on a US airline, then will be taking Lufthansa to Frankfurt - this means I arrive in Terminal 2 and need to get to Terminal 1.

- Does this mean I will need to clear customs, then come back thru security to board the Lufthansa flight, or according to the Lufth. airport map, is there a shuttle from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 that will stay inside security?

- The limit for hand luggage is 8 kg, a little over 17 lbs. Does this only include the bag, but not any purse/small backpack, or is the total weight added?

- I will bring my bag which will exceed 17 lbs, so assuming I will need to check most of it, I will bring a duffel bag to remove some of the non-essential items (but needed) items and check them. So, ***if*** I do not have to go back thru the Lufthansa ticket counter (only the gate) - will they gate check the duffel bag at the gate?

Thanks!

I want to know of a low budget airline to fly from Frankfurt Int Airport to Amsterdam. I am going to be in Europe for just a week and i believe that flying is a better option than train, because of time saving and money (sometimes).

Frankfurt am Main comfortable hotel near airport?
Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 07:23 PM UTC
I need a comfortable, clean, quiet, family-friendly hotel for one night. I prefer not to get tied up in traffic so I should probably avoid going into the city - ? Something nice that we can get to from the airport. Large rooms would be a plus. Any suggestions?

Is the Holiday Inn (Isenburger Schneise 40) okay? I read somewhere that it's kind of worn and dreary.

Thanks.

Frankfurt am Main Frankfurt (Main) Sud Station - where is this?
Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 05:15 AM UTC
Hello,
1. Can you tell me where Frankfurt (Main) Sud station is? Is this the Main station?
2. What is the best way to go from Frankfurt (Main) Sud station to the Frankfurt Int'l Airport (FRA)? How much does this cost?
3. I'm arriving at Frankfurt (Main) Sud at 7am and will be departing from Frankfurt Int'l airport at 7pm on the same day so I have ~12 hrs free time. Can you suggest a possible daytrip itinerary for me before my flight? If possible, let me know also how to get around to those places.
Thanks a lot!

Frankfurt am Main Train from Frankfurt to Bamberg
Posted: Fri April 18, 2008 12:46 AM UTC
Basically I am wondering does anyone know about the train journey from Frankfurt to Bamberg...
When we searched it on the bahn.de site, we got a quote for almost €60 per person for the journey...
Then my friend, who lived in Augsburg for a year, had the idea that maybe we could get the Länder-Tickets for the Frankfurt area and then get another one for when we cross into Bavaria...

Does anyone know is this possible? Or anything cheaper than €60 basically!

Thanks a million.
