Freiburg im Breisgau From Munich or Frankfurt to Freiburg
Posted: Wed June 3, 2009 06:27 AM UTC
My husband and I are arriving in Germany in late September. We are trying to find the cheapest way to get from Munich or Frankfurt (which ever is cheaper) to Freiburg. Originally we were looking at taking a train, but it seems to be quite costly. Is it really as expensive as it looks online? Is it cheaper to buy tickets when we are in Germany? Is is cheaper to take a bus, if a bus even runs to Freiburg? Sorry for all the questions, I have just been on the internet for a long time searching. Thank you all for your time.
ps... we are planning on traveling from Germany to Switzerland, then staying with family for about a month, then traveling onwards to France and Spain. Would a rail-pass be worth the cost?

Freiburg im Breisgau Field burning in the autumn.
Posted: Mon April 6, 2009 12:16 AM UTC
Hi:

We are planning to visit switzerland and southern germany in early september. In a past visit to southern france the field and vineyard burning was terrible. My wife has asthma so it is more than a inconvenience. I am wondering what the Freiburg situation is for field / vineyard burning in september. I know it cannot be ruled out, but is it common, continuous, smokey conditions in general at that time of the year. Surrounding areas the same?
thanks in advance for any info.

Freiburg im Breisgau Heading to Freiburg next month, need to keep busy for 5 days alone
Posted: Fri September 19, 2008 02:38 PM UTC
Hello there! I'm accompanying my boyfriend on a business trip to Freiburg next month. We have plans for the weekends (Munich, then Zurich) but during the week I'll be on my own all day and pretty much every evening since my boyfriend will be working and networking Mon-Fri.

I've never been to Europe before and I'm very excited, but I don't know much about Freiburg (I'd never heard of it before, to be honest) or how to keep busy all week. Are there tour group companies in the area? Cities nearby that would be easy for a non-German speaking person to get to (and safely back from)? I'd rather find a few day long tour group to join than go out and about alone (I imagine it will get pretty lonely by the end of the week), but since I probably will be alone, any tips in general for what to do?

Thanks!

Freiburg im Breisgau Hand made jam in the black forest
Posted: Wed November 14, 2007 11:15 PM UTC
Hi,
I will visit Freiburg in the 1st week of Dec. for 4 days. I read about this Hand made jam place in the black forest, and I want to know how to reach it and how far is it from Freiburg or any information about it.
the address is Konfitürenmanufaktur, Alfred Faller GmbH, Seeweg 3• 79694 Utzenfeld/Schwarzwald.
one more question, does anyone know a cheese factory in this area? I love visiting factories and buying products fresh from the factory :)
what is the best place to have black forest cake without alcohol ? I think its called 'econo' right ?
Thanx :)

Freiburg im Breisgau Bicycle Hire
Posted: Wed August 8, 2007 11:07 AM UTC
I'm a New Zealander, travelling to visit family in Waldkirch, in September. We're planning a cycle trip, and also the family have no car, so I need to hire a bicycle for about 3 weeks. The type of bike I'm looking for needs to be suitable for touring (with lots of low gears, and carrier for panniers, mudguards, and reasonable quality gearing and brakes, and lightweight frame), as well as suitable for shorter trips around town. I'd be grateful if anyone could advise me of places to hire a bike, either in Waldkirch or in Freiburg. I've tried looking on Google but have had no luck.

Alternatively I could buy a bike if there are second-hand sales of good quality bikes. My family could then re-sell after I leave.

Many thanks

Freiburg im Breisgau Munich to Koln via the Black Forest
Posted: Sun March 11, 2007 03:52 AM UTC
We will be driving from Munich to Koln in one day. I wanted to know if we drive through the Black Forest (North of Freiburg) if we would get to see any of the beauty that is the Black Forest? I know it will increase our drive time by a few hours, but we don't want to miss any of the beautiful things Germany has to offer.

Freiburg im Breisgau Black Forest drive
Posted: Thu March 8, 2007 06:44 PM UTC
We will be traveling from Basel to Koln in one day.
The travel time is about 4 hours. Since we will have extra time, I am proposing traveling thru the country side.
My proposed route is Basel – Freiburg- Trieburg – Freudenstadt –Baden-Baden – Heidelburg – Koln. Much of this will be just a driving route, but what interesting things will be along the way?
Or would there be any changes in the route? I figured this route would take about 8 hours or so.

Freiburg im Breisgau Bus/Train from Todtnau (Black Forest) to Basel Airport
Posted: Tue August 22, 2006 09:53 PM UTC
Hello,
I will be traveling on business to Todtnau late September. I am noticing that is a small Black Forest village near Freiburg. I will be arriving by air in Zürich and ground transportation will be arranged for me and the other job partners. After the business trip is over I am planning to fly out of Basel to Amsterdam (by EasyJet) to visit some friends.
My question: How far is Todtnau from Basel and what is the best way to get to Basel Int'l. airport (from Todtnau)? (Bus or train). Would it be via Freiburg or via Zell(Wiesental?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Freiburg im Breisgau Frankfurt to Freiberg vs. Heidelberg
Posted: Thu June 8, 2006 08:48 PM UTC
I'm taking a trip to Germany in about two weeks (and am waiting until now to plan...) Anyways, my original plan had been to go from Frankfurt (where my flight gets in) to HEidelberg, spend the night there, and then spend the next day in the Black Forest. Now I'm sort of leaning towards spending the night in Freiberg, though. Does anyone have any advice for spending longer in Heidelberg or Freiberg? Also, I have a Euro Youth Railpass, so are there trains into Freiberg that I can use my pass on? If not, what other way is there for me to get to Freiberg? Thanks for any help!

Freiburg im Breisgau Studying in Freiburg
Posted: Sun May 28, 2006 03:29 AM UTC
Hey Everybody. I am going to be going on an exchange to the University of Freiburg for the entire year (fall and summer session i.e oct 06-aug07) I have been looking around at many sites to find a nice appartment and it is a very hard task indeed. From my understanding with the exchange program that I am with, I cannot live in a dorm so I am looking for a nice 1 room apartment. I've looked at most of the sites that are mentioned on the freiburg university website but I just wanted to know if anybody knew of anything else? Cost also isn't a big issue (although the currency exchange from the canadian dollar to the euro sucks lol). Thanks.

Freiburg im Breisgau What's this restaurant's name...??
Posted: Tue November 15, 2005 03:49 PM UTC
Friends,

Does anyone from Freiburg know the name of the small restaurant / kneipe that the arrow in this picture is pointing to?

The street is Universitaetsstrasse, looking toward Bertholdstrasse -- the Rathausplatz would be directly behind you if you were standing where this picture was taken.

My husband and I have eaten / drunk there once or twice, and it's driving me crazy that I can't recall its name.

Thanks in advance for your help!

All the best -- Diane
