I am wondering if it is possible to do Pompeii, Mt Vesuvius & Herculaneum departing from Naples early morning (say 7.30am) and be back at Naples by 4pm? (Have to meet a 6.30pm flight at Naples airport to Venice)?
I assume I need to catch a train to "Pompei Scarvi Villa Misteri" for the Pompei ruins and "Ercolano Scarvi" for the Herculaneum ruins with train details from this website: http://www.vesuviana.it/web/en , correct?
I am not sure how to get to/from Mt Vesuvius from either Pompei or Herculaneum without walking 6km up. Wiki travel (http://wikitravel.org/en/Vesuvius) said there are only 2 buses/day from Herculaneum and more frequent from Pompei. But I can't find any details/timetables/routes for the buses mentioned. I assume this is the bus website here: http://www.ctpn.it/home.asp which has no english option. I am wondering if anyone can help me get these details?
I also need to know public transport (bus/rail) details from Naples (probably near Naples central railway) to Naples airport.
Looking to go to Sorrento next July just wondering on the price of drinks ,have been told very expensive is this really the case. Also any other tips on the area would be appreaciated as it all looks amazing.
is there a bus from the centre of Sorrento to the villa limona on the capo di Sorrento and if so what number is it and where exactly does it leave from?
I will be flying into Rome the 29th of November. We will rent a car and drive to our agritourismo in Agerola (near Positano). We plan to spend 3-5 days there. One of us has to return to the U.S. via Rome on the 6th of Dec. The other two of us will leave from Rome on the 13th. I am looking for suggestions about what to do/where to go after the few days on Amalfi coast. None of us have been further south than Rome before. We have covered Tuscany, Florence, Venice. I think it will be too cold for the Cinque Terre. I would love to see Sicily but I think it is too far for the time we have. Any suggestions?
we will be in positano in mid -november with a rental car. Our hotel charges 18 euros for parking which seems very steep to me. Is there any parking which is cheaper near the hotel pasitea. is there any street parking. appreciate any help
My wife and I are heading to Capri this weekend for vacation. We have read that many restaurants close during winter months. Is it typical for most restaurants to close in October or do they wait until November? Any recommendations would be much appreciated!
I recently visited Sorrento and went on the city train and purchased their dvd
"Passeggiando" per Sorrento. I would like to buy another copy of the dvd for my
aunty as a christmas present. Does anyone know how or where I can buy one?
Arriving at Naples Centrale train station at 5PM the 2nd week of October. We have hotel reservations at Marriott Capri Resort for 2 nights. Any advice to get from train station to Capri and then to the hotel would be greatly appreciated. Are we able to make reservations in advance?
Also, we would appreciate any reccommendations of how to make the best use of one full day.
I'll be in Naples via cruise by late Oct. I recognized there are jetfoil, bus or train services directly to Capri or Sorrento. Before deciding the means of transport, I need to measure the distance between the place my ship dock and the Ferry Station or train station. Anyone can help me out the following:
1. Is it necessary to take cab or bus to the jetfoil terminal or to the train/bus station? I prefer to walk if not far.
2. What is name of the train station or the bus stop
3. do all above transportation operate in late Oct?
I am reading some of the posts regarding travel from Naples to Positano. I am planning on taking the train from Rome to Naples. Getting on another train to Sorrento then a bus to Positano sounds exhausting!! Viator.com advertises $29.13 for van ride from Naples train station to your hotel in Positano. This now almost sounds to good to be true. Has anyone used this service?
DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHERE TO FIND NELLO BOUNGIORNO?THIS SINGER WAS AT LA ZIGARA AND DOSENT PLAY THERE ANYMORE. WE ENJOYED THIS SINGER AT ANOTHER TRIP TWO YEARS AGO. THANK YOU
I was in Sorrento a year ago with my dauther and we purchased matching ceramic spoon ladles. Unfortunately, mine broke. I want to replace with a matching one. On the back it is signed: Did. A Mano. Can anyone help me?
We've dropped Pompei from our journey and think from what has been posted the the best way to get to Positano is by train to Sorrento and then the SITA bus to Positano. However, is there a direct train from Rome to Sorrento or do we have to take two. Thanks
We will be staying in Sorrento for several days in mid September. We will be taking day trips to Capri, Pompeii and along the Amalfi Coast. We would like some advice as to what clothes we should pack. Are shorts okay? For men? For women? By "shorts", I mean long ones, to the knee. We are middle-aged, but very trim. What about sandels? I'm sure there will be throngs of tourists. But we would rather look like Italian tourists in-the-know than clueless tourists. All suggestions will be appreciated. Grazie!
Greetings! My husband and I will be in Rome in Sept. We would love to visit Capri and stay there 1-3 nights. We also wish to see the ruins at Pompeii. We are unsure as to whether it is better to rent a car or take the train to Naples. How does one get around on the island w/o Car best, and are there certain areas where the hotels are not near any of the main attractions and therefore will be hard to get to once we arrive? I've heard the drive along the coast is spectacular though I have also heard that if you do not know the roads well, it can be treacherous! We are experienced city drivers...so just how true is this? If we do not elect to drive and do take the train to Naples, I know we can get to Capri via hydrofoil but is it near the train? How would we also see Pompeii most cost effectively, before or after Capri? Thank you for any help you can give!
Would anyone be able to tell me when they think the best day, or best time of year, would be to visit Pompeii from a non-crowded point of view? When would there be less people? In Winter I imagine... maybe midweek in early January? When would you say?
My husband and myself will be visiting Sorrento, November 2-16 with a tour group from USA. We will have free time and like to get away from the tourist type areas. Any recommendations on hiking trails and or bicycle trails?
Thank you.
My family and I are planning a trip to the Amalfi Coast in June. We would like to base ourselves around either the Sorrento or Positano area. My one daughter tends to get carsick and I know the roads there are full of twists and turns. Does anyone have any travel suggestions for me regarding where to stay and what roads/forms of transportation are best so that we can make my daughter's experience as pleasant as possible? (Dramamine pills are definitely coming with us!)
Thanks!
I will be in Naples in mid Sept - where is the best area to book hotel - a safe place to walk around in the evenings. and is there a site where one can see which buses/metro to take to certain places like Pompei etc? Thanks
I will be arriving by cruise ship to Sorrento, and would like to take a tour to Positano. Does anyone have a company they would recomment. The ship leaves at 6:00p.m.
My fiance and I will be taking a cruise through the Mediterrean as part of honeymoon this October.
Two questions:
1. What is the best beach for laying out/swimming and enjoying the thermal springs?
2. If we're traveling from the main port on Ischia would renting a moped or taking a water taxi be a viable option for transportation to the beach/springs?
Hello,

I have just found this terrific site and it is proving to be so helpful!
I noticed that in a posting, someone mentioned that a bus service runs from Sorrento town centre to Rome.
