Luge? Posted: Sat April 1, 2006 09:39 PM UTC
I'll be staying in Garmisch for a few nights and will have a car. I'd like to ride a luge, and have a book that lists a few around Tirol. Anyone have a particular one they recommend? How long should I plan on this taking, including the wait in line (if there is one)?
Danke!

Ski lifts Posted: Tue January 17, 2006 12:52 PM UTC
I have a fe questions about access to the skiing which I hope someone out there can help me with.
I spent a very enjoyable 4 days skiing in Garmisch last February and so I am returning for a week this February with family and friends in tow. Last year myself and two teenage boys were the only travellers and we used the Haupsberg cable car to access the mountain, but the queue was large and we tended to have to wait approx 1 hour. This year I will also have some younger children (who can ski quite well) and I am anxious to avoid them standing in line for such a long time...you know how it is with kids! I see that access to skiing is also possible through the Kreuzeuch and Alpspitz cable cars. Are the queues here less, and do the lines move more quickly?
Also, on the last day last year we skied right down to the bottom of the Haupsberg and really enjoyed it. However the ski pass only let us take one "up" trip and one "down " trip on the cable car. This was not the Happy Ski caed but the local pass. Is this the same for Kreuzeuch and Alpspitz, or can you ski a circuit and go up in the cable car again. Or does it depend on which card you buy?
Thanks in advance for any help with this.
John

What to do with luggage at a stop over in Garmisch-Partenkircher Posted: Tue January 3, 2006 03:54 AM UTC
We will be stopping over in Garmisch -Partenkircher for the day on our way to Innsbruck by train. Where do travelers store their luggage while sightseeing? This is the first time we have been faced with that situation. I hoe someone will have suggestions. Thank you.

kids and castles Posted: Thu December 29, 2005 01:47 AM UTC
We will be in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in april and promised the kids that we will not only hike but also visit Fussen and the nearby castles. Can anyone provide guidance on public transportation to Fussen or the castles from G-P. Additionally, can you provide any insight on places to stay for a family of 5.
Thanks and Happy New Year!

More related to ski-jump event | also, are there lockers at train station? Posted: Wed December 21, 2005 04:35 PM UTC
Can anyone please tell me whether there are any luggage lockers in Garmisch-Partenkirchen Train Station and how much do they cost? On another post I read that it is likely that since there's gonna be the event, trains will also stop at Kainzenbad station so please advise about lockers at this station too.
I'll be travelling from Munich to Innsbruck on 1st Jan and I'd like to stop in Garmisch for the Ski Jump event on NYE. However I'll need to leave the luggage somewhere. I tried finding accommodation for 1 night but seems like everywhere's choc-a-block.
Once the event is over, will I easily find trains going to Innsbruck (till what time do trains to IBK run?)
Is it sensible to but tickets for the event at the door? I've checked out this site selling the tickets https://ssl.garmisch.net/der-reisebuero/de/online_bestellung.php I'm assuming that Category 7 is standing. But do you see something or it's absolutely a no-no. If I buy tickets online, will they keep them for me and I pick them up at the door or what? There's not enough time to get them by post for sure.

Party New Year's Eve Posted: Mon December 19, 2005 11:30 AM UTC
Dear VTs,
I'm visiting GAP over New Year's Eve and I still don't know what to do there on this special evening. Will there be any parties? Well, stupid question, of course there will, but I mean public big parties or something similar? I don't wanna stay at my hotel and pay 80 Euros for a small dinner plus horrible prices for drinks and listen to boring music :-)
If you have any ideas, please tell me :-)
Thanks a lot in advance

Ski jumping new years day - couple more questions.. Posted: Tue December 6, 2005 12:42 PM UTC
So I have got my tickets for new years day for the ski jumping and just have another couple of questions..
I believe the actual competition is held in Partenkirchen. Whats the best way to get from the train station in Garmisch? Is it walkable?
Also for the train from Munich to Garmisch I have a choice of 1st and 2nd class. Is there much difference on German trains?
Thanks!

Muenchen "Ausfluege" Posted: Wed August 3, 2005 04:43 AM UTC
My wife & I have very limited time while on our southern Germany tour. We'd like to ask if anyone has advice re: how best to see areas south of Munich, i.e., Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Fuessen, Chiemsee, etc. Would it be best to rent a car in Munich and drive around and through those areas, rather than take buses between the stops? Main places we want to visit are Neuschwanstein, Zugspitze, but are open to any other points of interest others might suggest to us. Thanks!

Zürich to Garmisch scenic route Posted: Wed July 27, 2005 04:44 PM UTC
We will be driving from Zürich to Garmisch. A scenic drive is more important to us than time. Would it be best to take the southern route thru Austria (St. Anton) or take the northern route thru Lindau and over the German Alpenstraße road?

The Four Hills/Chances Ski Jumping Tournament New Years Day Posted: Tue April 12, 2005 02:32 PM UTC
Was just wondering how realistic it would be to get to see the Four Hills comp in Garmisch on New Years Day? First off what chance is there of getting a ticket outside of Germany? Are they on sale yet or already gone?
Second we where thinking of staying in Munich. Would it be possible to get from Munich to Garmisch on New Years Day by any sort of public transport?
And if thats not possible does all the accomodation in GAP get booked up early because of this event??
Cheers

2 kiwis moving to Germany Posted: Tue September 14, 2004 03:34 PM UTC
Hi! My boyfriend & I are wanting to move to Germany in a few months on working visa's - and would like to live & work in or around the Garmisch area. We're wondering if there's any friendly folk out there who know of or can offer a bed or cheap room either temporarily or permanantly. Even a floor for a couple of weeks would be great!! Any laid back locals or travellers who can help a couple of New Zealander's out while we settle in?? We're pretty rusty on our German at the moment - but busy learning the language & looking forward to learning the culture - and maybe we can repay you the favour if you ever want to visit New Zealand! Also - if anyone can recommend companies or places to try for jobs - or any other tips - would be much appreciated as well! Thanks!

Visiting Zugspitze Posted: Tue June 22, 2004 06:43 PM UTC
In early July, we are visiting various places in Europe on our honeymoon, including the Alps Region. I have had Zugspitze reccomended for a number of reasons (scenery, and birdwatching). I am looking for advice on the best way to get to the top, I hear there are several possibilities. What is the difference in price, time to ascend to the top, and possibly minimizing the time spent on a scary cable car, ha! Is it easier to get to from Garnisch on the German side, or from Austria.
Also by the way we are looking forward to Neuschwanstein Castle in the region, and some birding.
Good suggestions on local authentic restaurants would be great also.
Thanks so much in advance for your help!!

a month in garmisch Posted: Mon May 5, 2003 03:21 AM UTC
My wife and I will be spending 4 weeks in Garmisch-Partenkirchen this summer. What is the best (cheapest) option for such a long stay? We are up for anything - to include a vacation home rental or Zimmerfrei or a regular hotel room. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Another question on Garmisch and the area around Posted: Mon November 4, 2002 10:04 AM UTC
Hi again!
It seems to be impossible to find any accommodation in Garmisch-Partenkirchen itself we have to stay somewhere else. Preferably a place that isn't too far away so that access to G-P on competition days aren't a nightmare. As we will be there for New Year's eve we are looking for a place where there is something going on - no little village full of [really] old people.
Any idea where we should try? Is Innsbruck any good? What about Mittenwald? Seefeld?
Thanks :)

Hi!
Yippeee! My friend and I have just bought our tickets for the New Year's Day Ski Jumping competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Now we just need a nice place to stay.
Does any of you have any advise where we should try to find one? Has anyone ever stayed in a nice B&B there? Any idea what to do on New Year's eve?
