power adapters for Edelweiss Lodge Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 02:18 AM UTC
Back again with another question, you were all very helpful with great answers to my first question. We're leaving on May 10th for 10 days in Germany and are staying at the Edelweiss Lodge near Garmisch. Will I need to buy power adapters for my small electrical devices like electric razors and curling irons? If we need them can anyone give me an idea of the best type to get and an idea of how many I may need (I can't imagine having more than 2 or 3 things going at any one time). Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

skii in G.P.(for begginers) Posted: Wed April 9, 2008 08:45 PM UTC
Hi. I`ll be in G.P. about end of april. I live in a hot country and never had skiied before. So i`d like having the experience, once i`ll stay a full day there. Could you tell please about the best and cheapest spot(station ?) for begginers( like instructors and rent of clothes...etc)
by the way could you give an idea of the costs for one entire day doing that, in order to plan the expenses(WE ARE TWO PERSONS TRAVELING)
finally, is it cheaper skiing crossing the border in Austria, once i`ll be there on following days?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

Driving in GP Posted: Tue March 11, 2008 06:44 AM UTC
Do you recommend winter tyres or snow chains in late March at GP and surrounding areas (Mittenwald, Linderhof etc)?
Is either of them mandatory by law?

Train from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen Posted: Thu February 28, 2008 02:17 PM UTC
We are scheduled for a trip to Germany May 10-20 2008. We will fly into Munich and will be staying at the Edelweiss Lodge near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I have been researching the possibility of taking the train from Munich to G-P, could anyone share any experence they have had using this method of reaching either G-P or the Edelweiss. I also am wondering how baggage would be handled? Is there a way to check baggage from Munich to G-P or will we have to lug it with us the whole way. Any other information about transportation in and around G-P or the Edelweiss would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help.

What happened to Ristorante Colesseo? Posted: Wed January 9, 2008 05:30 PM UTC
Has the Colesseo reopened in a new location? We tried to have dinner there in December 06 and found a vacant lot--so sad. We are going to Garmisch for a few days in April and hope to find our old friends. Thank you!

Bavaria Trip Posted: Wed December 5, 2007 08:16 AM UTC
During our trip to Bavaria, we are planning to stay some period at Garmisch=Partenkirchen. From 16 December to 19 December.
For more specific information look at my post here:
http://forum.virtualtourist.com/discussion-390687-1-1-Travel-0-0-Bavaria-discussion.html?s=2&p=0&l=0
Now, the most important thing to me, is to find some good place to stay at Garmisch-Partenkerchen. I am thinking about Zimmer or Gästehaus. Could you please recommend me some place that I and 2 of my friends will feel warm?
We need one double and one single beds. The place will be mainly used as a base camp, so it could be modest.
Best regards, Slava

long Christmas weekend in Garmisch Posted: Sat November 24, 2007 08:53 PM UTC
My family including our young daughter will be spending 22-25 December in Garmisch. We don't plan to do skiing or wintersports unless there is a place that we can take our daughter for some gentle sled-riding. What ideas are recommended for activities that weekend? We are also considering a daytrip to Innsbruck (via train?)

Distance from Stuttgart to Edelweiss Posted: Thu November 1, 2007 02:09 AM UTC
We have reservations for Edelweiss for Dec and supposed to fly in to Munich but due to change in plans, we now have to fly to Stuttgart. How far is the airport from Edelweiss Resort? Are there any transportation aside from car rental?

Hiking Partnach Gorge in December/January? Posted: Mon October 22, 2007 02:34 PM UTC
Last time my wife and I visited Garmisch was during autumn. We hiked Partnach Gorge and went quite a good distance; we spent several hours hiking up to a plateau and back down the other side through a village with a very old white church. I don't remember the names of the village(s) we passed through, but we came out along the road to Mittenwald/Innsbruck, and passed the swimming pool on our way back into town.
Now, this hike was a bit steep in an treacherous in spots, even in the fall when there was no snow on the ground. In late December/early January, will it be possible to hike these trails? My wife and I own snowshoes; should we bring them? Are the trails well groomed in the winter months?
Many thanks!

Train schedule: Garmisch to Munich Posted: Mon October 22, 2007 02:14 PM UTC
My wife and I will at last be able to return to Garmisch this winter. We look forward to our trip, but have decided not to waste money on a rental car again this time; there is so much to do locally on foot! Our return flight will leave on Sunday, January 6th in the morning; can anyone tell me what the train schedule is like on weekends at that time of year? We may need to leave Saturday night and sleep at the airport, it seems.
Many thanks!

Bus travel to Garmisch-Partenkirchen Posted: Wed September 5, 2007 10:21 AM UTC
I have clients wanting to travel from Stuttgart to Garmisch-Partenkirchen by bus, via the Black Forest. So far the only transportation I have been able to find is train schedules via Munich. I have also looked at buses on the RVO website but haven't managed to find anything from Stuttgart. Does anyone know of any website that will give me bus schedules in Germany? Or if bus travel is even feasible on this route.
Many thanks in advance.

Christmas in Garmisch with young children Posted: Sat September 1, 2007 08:29 AM UTC
Some friends will be travelling to Garmisch with us for the christmas week this year,we'll be 4 adults, a 16mth old, 2 x 3yr olds and a 7 yr old. We're staying at the US eidelwiess resort but all really wanted to spend as much time out of the hotel as possible.... I've been trawling the internet to find travel tips for the area etc, and wondered if anyone here had any 'real' advice and tips on enjoying the area with small children. None of us ski incedently and don't plan to whilst we're there, but we do love the outdoors (as do the children, though we are maybe limited to what we can manage with the littleones, though we have backpack carriers etc, the 7yr old still has to cope!). We're also looking to eat out and about most evenings especially Christmas eve and christmas day...
Also are there any churches (maybe more likely in Munich..) that do lively christmas eve. christmas day services?
Thankyou for taking the time to help

Does anyone know where the ruins of the castle are located? Is it a reasonable hike/walk from the center of town. Are there any places to eat nearby? We are a group of twelve and not terribly athletic, but we would like to see something other than the insides of bars
Thanks for your help.

Eating on Christmas Day in Garmisch Posted: Sun November 5, 2006 09:54 AM UTC
My husband and I are spending a few days in Garmisch over Christmas, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me of any special Christmas dinners or buffets offered by any of the local restaurants. We are going to be without a car, so we're relying on getting everywhere by foot or public transportation, and we'll be staying at a hotel very near the Garmisch train station. Can anyone tell me of places near there where we might make reservations for Christmas dinner?
Thanks.

English-speaking ski instruction for children? Posted: Thu April 27, 2006 01:26 AM UTC
We have tix to Stuttgart over Christmas, and I have faith that I could find a B&B at this late date in Garmisch, and we'd like to take our kids and go ski for a week. Unfortunately, our 6-year old has only minimal German and we'd like to find a ski "program" to put the kids in for at least half of each day. Does anyone have ideas on a ski programme that does kid group lessons in English over the Christmas holidays???? How about in another (Bavarian or Austrian or Swiss or French) location within 4 or 5 hours of Stuttgart? Thanks in advance for any help, advice, etc......

From Berchtesgaden to Garmisch-Partenkirchen Posted: Mon April 3, 2006 10:22 AM UTC
I'll drive a rental car from from Berchtesgaden to Garmisch-Partenkirchen within one day. Could someone please compare the following two routes in terms of the scene, time to be taken, ease-of-driving, chance of getting lost, etc:
a) Alpine Road within Germany or
b) Highway in Austria stopover Innsbuck
Moreover, is driving through the Germany-Austria border a hazzle-free process, how long it normally takes?
Moreover, any good recommendation for accomodation around Garmisch-Partenkirchen?
