Garmisch-Partenkirchen buses/trains to Ettal?
Posted: Thu November 5, 2009 02:19 PM UTC
We'll be in GaP in December, and wondered what our alternatives to renting a car to get to Ettal might be. We'd like to head up that way for dinner one evening, but I'm not sure whether buses regularly service that route, and if they do, how late they run.

Many thanks!

Garmisch-Partenkirchen Garmisch or Edelweiss?
Posted: Thu October 15, 2009 04:35 PM UTC
Hey Folks--We are planning a week's stay in the Garmisch area next June and are trying to decide if we need to rent an apartment in Garmisch for a week or stay at Edelweiss Lodge (husband is retied military). Any opinions on this? Also trying to decide if we need to rent a car for the week (flying into Munich) or will the trains and buses be sufficient for transportation and sightseeing. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Garmisch-Partenkirchen G-P Sledging for kids
Posted: Tue January 13, 2009 12:06 PM UTC
Hi there,

We are not skiers but want to sledge with our kids (age 5 and 7). Does Garmisch-Partenkirchen have a specific area for this or can it be done on any lower slopes? Also can we do this with out having to buy a full ski pass - or is there a limited pass for sledging available. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen Mid-March weather?
Posted: Mon November 3, 2008 04:22 PM UTC
My wife and I have been to GaP a few times, but it's always been in the fall or, at latest, late December. What can we expect weather to be like mid-March? We are looking to go to GaP again March 14-21, 2009. Hope there will be some snow to enjoy! We did some cross country skiing and some sledding last time, and may take snowshoes if weather will warrant it. Many thanks!

Garmisch-Partenkirchen Looking for Holly and Bill - Owners of a Hotel in G-P
Posted: Tue September 2, 2008 02:59 AM UTC
Several years ago (2003) I met Americans Holly and Bill who owned a vacation rental in G-P. I do not remember the name of their rental but it sat right along a beautiful (small) river that ran through the city. Am trying to find out if they are still the owners and how to reach them so that I can return to their place. Much thanks to anyone who knows the rental market in G-P and might know these wonderful people.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen power adapters for Edelweiss Lodge
Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 03:18 AM UTC
Back again with another question, you were all very helpful with great answers to my first question. We're leaving on May 10th for 10 days in Germany and are staying at the Edelweiss Lodge near Garmisch. Will I need to buy power adapters for my small electrical devices like electric razors and curling irons? If we need them can anyone give me an idea of the best type to get and an idea of how many I may need (I can't imagine having more than 2 or 3 things going at any one time). Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen skii in G.P.(for begginers)
Posted: Wed April 9, 2008 09:45 PM UTC
Hi. I`ll be in G.P. about end of april. I live in a hot country and never had skiied before. So i`d like having the experience, once i`ll stay a full day there. Could you tell please about the best and cheapest spot(station ?) for begginers( like instructors and rent of clothes...etc)

by the way could you give an idea of the costs for one entire day doing that, in order to plan the expenses(WE ARE TWO PERSONS TRAVELING)

finally, is it cheaper skiing crossing the border in Austria, once i`ll be there on following days?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

Do you recommend winter tyres or snow chains in late March at GP and surrounding areas (Mittenwald, Linderhof etc)?
Is either of them mandatory by law?

Garmisch-Partenkirchen Train from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Posted: Thu February 28, 2008 03:17 PM UTC
We are scheduled for a trip to Germany May 10-20 2008. We will fly into Munich and will be staying at the Edelweiss Lodge near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I have been researching the possibility of taking the train from Munich to G-P, could anyone share any experence they have had using this method of reaching either G-P or the Edelweiss. I also am wondering how baggage would be handled? Is there a way to check baggage from Munich to G-P or will we have to lug it with us the whole way. Any other information about transportation in and around G-P or the Edelweiss would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help.

Has the Colesseo reopened in a new location? We tried to have dinner there in December 06 and found a vacant lot--so sad. We are going to Garmisch for a few days in April and hope to find our old friends. Thank you!

Garmisch-Partenkirchen Bavaria Trip
Posted: Wed December 5, 2007 09:16 AM UTC
During our trip to Bavaria, we are planning to stay some period at Garmisch=Partenkirchen. From 16 December to 19 December.
For more specific information look at my post here:
http://forum.virtualtourist.com/discussion-390687-1-1-Travel-0-0-Bavaria-discussion.html?s=2&p=0&l=0

Now, the most important thing to me, is to find some good place to stay at Garmisch-Partenkerchen. I am thinking about Zimmer or Gästehaus. Could you please recommend me some place that I and 2 of my friends will feel warm?
We need one double and one single beds. The place will be mainly used as a base camp, so it could be modest.

Best regards, Slava

Garmisch-Partenkirchen long Christmas weekend in Garmisch
Posted: Sat November 24, 2007 09:53 PM UTC
My family including our young daughter will be spending 22-25 December in Garmisch. We don't plan to do skiing or wintersports unless there is a place that we can take our daughter for some gentle sled-riding. What ideas are recommended for activities that weekend? We are also considering a daytrip to Innsbruck (via train?)

Garmisch-Partenkirchen Hiking Partnach Gorge in December/January?
Posted: Mon October 22, 2007 03:34 PM UTC
Last time my wife and I visited Garmisch was during autumn. We hiked Partnach Gorge and went quite a good distance; we spent several hours hiking up to a plateau and back down the other side through a village with a very old white church. I don't remember the names of the village(s) we passed through, but we came out along the road to Mittenwald/Innsbruck, and passed the swimming pool on our way back into town.

Now, this hike was a bit steep in an treacherous in spots, even in the fall when there was no snow on the ground. In late December/early January, will it be possible to hike these trails? My wife and I own snowshoes; should we bring them? Are the trails well groomed in the winter months?

Many thanks!

Garmisch-Partenkirchen Train schedule: Garmisch to Munich
Posted: Mon October 22, 2007 03:14 PM UTC
My wife and I will at last be able to return to Garmisch this winter. We look forward to our trip, but have decided not to waste money on a rental car again this time; there is so much to do locally on foot! Our return flight will leave on Sunday, January 6th in the morning; can anyone tell me what the train schedule is like on weekends at that time of year? We may need to leave Saturday night and sleep at the airport, it seems.

Many thanks!

Garmisch-Partenkirchen Bus travel to Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Posted: Wed September 5, 2007 11:21 AM UTC
I have clients wanting to travel from Stuttgart to Garmisch-Partenkirchen by bus, via the Black Forest. So far the only transportation I have been able to find is train schedules via Munich. I have also looked at buses on the RVO website but haven't managed to find anything from Stuttgart. Does anyone know of any website that will give me bus schedules in Germany? Or if bus travel is even feasible on this route.

Many thanks in advance.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen Christmas in Garmisch with young children
Posted: Sat September 1, 2007 09:29 AM UTC
Some friends will be travelling to Garmisch with us for the christmas week this year,we'll be 4 adults, a 16mth old, 2 x 3yr olds and a 7 yr old. We're staying at the US eidelwiess resort but all really wanted to spend as much time out of the hotel as possible.... I've been trawling the internet to find travel tips for the area etc, and wondered if anyone here had any 'real' advice and tips on enjoying the area with small children. None of us ski incedently and don't plan to whilst we're there, but we do love the outdoors (as do the children, though we are maybe limited to what we can manage with the littleones, though we have backpack carriers etc, the 7yr old still has to cope!). We're also looking to eat out and about most evenings especially Christmas eve and christmas day...

Also are there any churches (maybe more likely in Munich..) that do lively christmas eve. christmas day services?

Thankyou for taking the time to help
