I have specific bus/train questions about timetables/schedules for travel from Siena to the following: Can someone please help? I have tried to look up the timetables but am overwhelmed not knowing the station names which bus line etc., etc.
I would like timetables for the following:
1. Siena to Volterre by bus (on a Saturday) round trip
2. Siena to San Gimignano by train (on a Monday) round trip
3. Siena to Perugia ( Station Fontivegge) by BUS (on a Wedensday) one way
I'll be meeting friends in Florence later this week...I'm arriving by train and they're coming by car.
My friend had heard that there is a tax or fee for driving into the city (he says it's over 100 euro). I've driven into Florence in the past, but not for a while, and don't remember anything like that. I've done a search or two here and on the internet in general and can't find any mention.
Can someone clear this up for us? It will make a big difference regarding where I meet them.
We(family of 4)will be traveling from Florence next July to the Amalfi Coast. Should we fly to Naples and bus it to Positano? If so, should we purchase air tickets locally, and approx cost if bought locally. Or should we take the train to Naples and then local train to Sorrento, then cab or bus to Positano? I am worried that train travel will take to long. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I am trying to reach Luciano's, it is a store with beautiful merchandise and is located at p.za santa croce 9/R. Can you give me an email address to contact them?
I am seeking a Hot Air Balloon company in the Tuscany region that offers balloon rides for under 200 euros per person. Most of the websites I've been browsing are set at around 220euros for a 1 hour ride (or so). Are there any companies that offer it for around 100-150 euros each? Or is this impossible? We will be in the areas of Siena, Pienza, Monticciello, and Sorano (renting a car). Thanks!
We're planning to rent a villa in Tuscany in mid July of 2010 for one week. I'm not sure where is the ideal location for a family of nine including two children and one teenager. We would be landing in either Rome, Venice or Milan, whichever is nearest. Then we want to take a train to the nearest station to the villa.
If we were to stay for a second week in another villa, which town should we go for and any villa recommendations?
Advice on train and rental car bookings are also appreciated.
While we are relaxing in Tuscany (Siena and Pienza), we want to travel the 'famous' cypress-lined winding road (the postcard spot!) and take photographs in April 2010. I think I've narrowed it down to a stretch of road between Montepulciano and Monticchiello. Does it have an actual name or number so I can google it a bit more? We want to bike it or scooter it during a daytrip from Pienza.
We want to rent a place in Tuscany in July but would like to avoid places too crowded with tourists. We'd be happy to stay in a small town, love to hike, eat and be by the water (everyone says that the coast is horrible in the summer - too many people). We'll have a car but don't want to drive all the time. Is Lucca a good option?
Spent a lovely day in San Gimignano and can just scream that I didn't buy the parfum I smelled in a tiny shop on the right hand side as you are walking up the hill. Does anyone know the name of the shop? I've tried looking at the town web site but have come up empty. Thank you!!
Some time ago I found a good place for a ice cream. It is located in via San Sebastiano. Its name should be Cream e Cioccolato, or something like that. I'd like to know the right name and address of this gelateria.
I've already checked on "Pagine Gialle" and googled a lot.
I think that is the name of the the store. They sold enameled jewelry. Very bright colors of pendants and bracelets. I can't find it on the internet. Do I have the name wrong. I know it was in Florence.
Can you tell me the best way to get from Livorno to Pisa by train or bus, we will be there for the one day at beg of November by cruise ship, my husband and I are very fit so do not mind walking to the station. Next day we are in Civitavecchia for Rome and looking for the same info. Many thanks
Hi everybody!
We 'll be spending 10 days in Tuscany, and we'd really like to go to "Sagra del Tordo" held in Montalcino on 25/10/2009. Since our hotel is located in Florence and we are afraid to hire a car, how can we get there? Should we have an invitation or something (in order to participate?). It's our 2nd time in the area and we don't know a lot of things.Thanx a lot!!!
Hi there,
I remember someone posted a pizza restaurant that's been in the family for 4 generations and it was good.Where is it?Does anyone know?
thanks,

Why is it I never read about the problem of mosquitos in Florence? We were so unprepared upon arriving and got attacked so badly in a farmhouse to a point we stayed up ALL night watching my 3 year old and killing all the mosquitos in the room.Needless to say we checked out the next day to go to a different bed and breakfast and thank god they are more responsible and took measures to oust those blood thirst suckers out of the room by spraying it before hand. Are we the only ones?

I'm planning a weekend in Florence and am having no luck getting in contact (directly) with the Luna Rossa hostel. Perhaps someone has stayed there and still has the email address? Or a phone number?
(I've found this number: 328 6251017, but there's no answer.)

When I visited Italy last, the 2 towns of the Tuscany region I managed to explore were Pisa and Florence. This time around, I will likely have 1 day to explore another town in Tuscany, for photography reasons, in April. So, I need some ideas--what is your top choice for a photogenic Tuscan town to visit? I'm interested in towns that are older but well-kept, with cobblestone streets wide enough to allow a bike or two through, but not a car. Warm colors, lack of power lines and industrial areas, a room with a view over a family vineyard. Small, serene, and easy enough to get in and out of, and not swarming with tourists. A place that makes you want to sit down and stay a while, just to drink it all in. Where?
just wondering if any one can give the best and cheapest way to travel from the PSA airport to the Hotel Roma which i believe is located near the tower?
Interested in knowing if Montalcino or surrounding area wineries or Enoteca are open on Saturdays and Sundays off-season( November )? Are sites to visit( Castello; Abbey in Anselmo ) open?
We have a very early flight out of Florence on our last day in Tuscany, and I was wondering if anyone knows the closest hotel/place to stay to the airport.
Maybe in the center or outside... I don't know, some place really cool for 2 nights. Also, we are coming from Florence into Siena, should we take the bus, train, or rent a car? Can we explore Siena without a car?
We will be staying in Marina di Pisa and flying home out of Fiumicino on a Monday. We are planning to get to a hotel close to the airport on Sunday as our flight is early. Must we train to Rome first? Are there buses from Livorno to the Fiumicino Airport area on Sundays?
Any ideas for a hotel near the airport?
How long a trip is it from Livorno to the airport by car? What would a taxi cost?
Hi, am coming to Florence for a couple of days. My first time in Tuscany and I feel I should see a vineyard since I enjoy wine so much. Only problem is I don't know the area and will be relying on public transport. Are there any vineyards that do tours/tastings that are accessible by buses? Or is that too much of a long shot?!
I've already booked a room with settemerli.it but read some reviews that's it's not really the country side experience if I was looking for that. The surrounding area and town is not charming like most towns in italy?
I'm looking for the perfect farmhouse and beauty of contryside in the heart of tuscany.Any suggestions?
Sally I looked at your suggestion but somehow my husband wanted to look for other options :-)

We will be travelling from Rome to Florence byrail and I wonder whether anyone has travelled on to Montecatini Terme by train. If so, are there many connections from Florence and how long does the trip take? Thanks
