South Africa itinerary advice: parks near cape town
Posted: Tue June 9, 2009 04:02 PM UTC
Hello, I am a humanitarian living in eastern Congo, originally from Canada, going for 2 weeks holiday in SA, alone, this coming July.

I wish to fly to Cape Town and make it my base for day or week trips.

Is it possible to go on horse riding safari from Cape Town? I mean, what are the options around there? Will I be able to see the big 5 ?
Other than safari, I just want to relax, eat well, and go shopping.
Please advise.

(Congo has the big 5 but there are too many militiamen fighting in the parks to visit them safely :-(

Ethiopia Treking in Ethiopia
Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 09:58 PM UTC
I will be in Ethiopia from mid-June to mid-July and will be travelling on my own for the second half of the trip. I'm interested in doing some trekking, walking or on horseback, and in soaking up some of the incredible natural beauty of the country. Obviously these kind of trips are more practical to organise as part of a group so I'd love to hear from anyone who may have similar plans.

I have been doing some research into various community tourism projects, from the Bale Mountains to the TEFSA project near Lalibella, though am fairly flexible in my travel plans at the moment - so comments or advice on this would also be much appreciated! Thanks

Tanzania Gecko Adventure Tour Company??
Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 06:55 PM UTC
My husband and I (early 30's and fairly active) are planning a 3-4 week trip to East Africa in the fall. Part of it we are doing on our own, and part of it we are planning on doing with a tour group. We are looking at a tour offered by Gecko Adventure Tours because it does not just visit the game parks, but also has what seems to be a good cultural component to the tour (staying a night @ an orphanage, visit to schools, etc.).

Has anyone had any experiences with Gecko, either positive or otherwise? We are aware that it will be somewhat of a 'roughing it' experience camping, and are fine with that, but are more interested in what the guides are like, etc.

Thanks for any help!

Tanzania Join a group of 2 on Safari - August - Kenia and/or Tanzania
Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 03:35 PM UTC
Hi
We are a group of two: 25-30 aged male and female looking for safari companions at the beginning of August (Kenia and/or Tanzania)

We'll be arriving early morning on 3 August in Nairobi, and could start the safari the same or the next day.

The route we have thought of:
Approx 6/7 Days: Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro (starting from Nairobi), and Amboseli/Tsavo (preferred route should at that point of time wildbeest migration have not yet entirely moved to masai mara)

Or alternatively: Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara, Amboseli, Tsavo

We plan also do have some rest enjoing Kenian beaches in Mombasa, so we could also do the safari at later point in time, starting from Mombasa. We've got out flight back home from Nairobi on late evening 15 August.

Regarding the safari part we would prefer to stay in lodges, not necessarily serena, these could be well smaller than serenas, however possibly comparable in terms of standard.

We have found some good value for money itineraries, which would get however much less if there were at least 4 of us.

Should you also be thinking of doing a safari at that time, we would be happy should you contact us.

Hope to hear you and happy travels!

what is the cheapest method for me to renew my 3 month visa evey 3 month?

1. first method = if im in Layounne, it is near Mauritania, how much i must pay for the bus expenses and to pay at the immigration of Mauritania

2. second method = if i go to Moroccan embassy every 3 month, how much i have to pay

Kenya Camp site in Masai Mara- recommendations
Posted: Fri June 5, 2009 07:55 AM UTC
Hallo,
I would like to choose a camp site in Masai Mara. I searched in internet. It looks like Sand River (close to waterhole) is one of the best places, and Musiara Gate (close to lion prides). I want to have water/toilet in the camp, and, well, some minimal confort.
Does anyone have recommedations/advices/ideas?

Hi,

I will be in Mauritius last 10 days of June (travelling alone). I need to rent a hotel/hostel room which must have internet (for my laptop) and be centrally located to transport/nightlife/shopping. I am looking for some days in Port Louis and others in Grand Baie. Any suggestions?

Budget - don't know - $USD40/night?

Also, following suggestions needed:
- cheapest way to get from airport
- nightclubs in Port Louis and Grand Baie
- things to do in June/July (snorkelling, etc?)

South Africa Africa overland with Dragoman- Inrtepid- Absolute Africa- Oasis- African Trails
Posted: Thu June 4, 2009 08:31 PM UTC
Hi there!
I'm trying to choose a budget trip in southern and east africa through an operator, to avoid some hassle and loss of time on the ground. Searching in the web I finally tend to like:
Dragoman, Intrepid, Absolute Africa, Oasis, African Trails.
It would be great if you could send your opinion, recomendation, regarding these companies (in quality / cost terms).
I don't include Nomad because of past bad experiences in Southern Africa (their guide ripped us off with 40% comision on zimb dollars, their administartion never answered etc).
many thanks

Tanzania Yellow fever vaccination requirements for Kenya Tanzania
Posted: Thu June 4, 2009 11:22 AM UTC
Greetings,

Can someone tell me if a yellow fever vaccination is required for either Tanzania or Kenya. We will arrive from Canada to Kenya, and our safari will take us from there to Tanzania and then we will fly back to Kenya, and back to Canada.

I understand that visas can be obtained for both destinations when we arrive, is it a pretty simple process, or would it be best to have them in advance?

Many thanks
