Murmansk Travel Forum

Hi. Me and a friend are planning on taking the Trans-siberian express ending in Moscow this winter. From there we hope to go to Murmansk. From there to Finland before flying home. Does anybody know the best/easiest way to get to Murmansk from Moscow and the best/easiest from Murmansk to Finland. Both journeys will be in December.

Also if anyone has any ideas how to get from northern Finland to the U.K. cheaply and easily this will be VERY helpful!

Want to go see the Northern Lights.We live in St. Petersburg. Is Murmansk the best place? Has this mild weather affected them? Can you see them most every night.Will February be a good month to see them?Any suggestions welcome.Thanks TB

I am planning to go to Murmansk on June 2007. I want to see those light days. I know russian language. I would like to put some questions:
1.How many days do I have to have to see all good things in the city?
2.Is it possible to get to Kemi from Murmansk and the to Solovki?
3. Is there a posibility in Murmansk area to get to the open Barents Sea coast? Are there any beaches in the region?
4. Is it safe for foreigner in Murmansk?

Any info. on Murmansk as a place to visit for 4/5 days in the month of either May or June?
I`m thinking of visiting there next year and would like to know if its worth the stop.I can only select a maximum of 6 cities on my Visa, so i want to check out each one before hand.
Is Murmansk safe for lone backpackers?
Would it be too cold to do outdoor exploring in late April/Early May?
Any info.or strange tales appreciated.
